UFC featherweight standouts Erik Koch and Ricardo Lamas will fight at UFC 155.
Website MMAJunkie.com broke the news on Monday morning, citing UFC sources. According to the report, the winner may be poised to challenge for the UFC featherweight belt.
Earlier this year, the UFC scheduled Koch (13-1) to face champion Jose Aldo at UFC 153. However, Koch was forced to withdraw from the fight after sustaining a knee injury during training. The 24-year-old Koch has not lost since 2010.
On the other side of the cage, Lamas (12-2) has won all three of his fights in the UFC, including a June victory over contender Hatsu Hioki.
Aldo, who is currently on the shelf because of a foot injury he suffered after wrecking his motorcycle, has indicated that he still wants to fight Frankie Edgar (via Sherdog.com) in his return bout. Edgar, the UFC’s former lightweight champion, dropped to the featherweight division in August.
UFC 155 is set to take place on Dec. 29 in Las Vegas. The card already features a heavyweight title fight between Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez and another title eliminator between middleweights Chris Weidman and Tim Boetsch, among several other prime matchups.
