UFC 158, better known as the time when Georges St-Pierre will take on Nick Diaz, continues to fill out with the addition of a lightweight bout between Canadian fan-favorite John Makdessi and Ultimate Fighter alum Daron Cruickshank.
News of the matchup broke via the UFC Canada Twitter account:
The Bull is back! @johnmakdessimma will step back into the Octagon vs The Detroit Superstar @cruickshank155 in Montreal at #UFC158
— UFC Canada (@UFC_CA) January 5, 2013
Makdessi salvaged his UFC career last time out, avoiding a third straight loss by outpointing Sam Stout en route to an easy decision victory. The win moved Makdessi to 3-2 since hooking up with the UFC.
Since failing to capture an Ultimate Fighter championship during the reality show’s 15th installment, Cruickshank has looked every bit the part of a solid up-and-coming 155er. 2012 wins over Chris Tickle and Henry Martinez have the 27-year-old on the fast track to success—a journey that would be much accelerated by a win at UFC 158.
The intriguing lightweight bout joins what is beginning to look like a very solid card, which is set for the Bell Centre, Montreal, this March 16.
Also featured on the UFC 158 card is a pair of welterweight scraps between Carlos Condit and Rory MacDonald and Johny Hendricks and Jake Ellenberger.
The event will also see the UFC debut of Jordan Mein, who will take on Dan Miller, as well as the return of Patrick Cote, who is expected to battle Bobby Voelker.
