Seven UFC fighters received indefinite medical suspensions for the injuries they received Saturday at UFC 169.
The list of suspensions, published by MMAWeekly, contained a total of 10 fighters who were hurt to one extent or another during their contests.
Middleweight Nick Catone (left knee), middleweight Tom Watson (right elbow), lightweight Al Iaquinta (right knee), lightweight Kevin Lee (facial bones), lightweight Rashid Magomedov (left foot), welterweight Neil Magny (skull/sinuses) and lightweight Tony Martin (left knee) all received indefinite suspensions. Each suspension can be lifted with a doctor’s clearance or pending the successful passing of a given medical test.
In addition, lightweights Abel Trujillo and Jamie Varner were both suspended 30 days following their brawl, which resulted in a knockout win for Trujillo.
On top of his indefinite suspension, Iaquinta was suspended 30 days because of a laceration over his left eye.
Lightweight John Makdessi was suspended 60 days after sustaining various facial lacerations.
None of the fighters in the main or co-main events—bantamweights Renan Barao and Urijah Faber, and featherweights Jose Aldo and Ricardo Lamas—were listed as having received a medical suspension.
Despite the lengthy suspensions list, no single fighter appeared, at least to the untrained eye, to suffer a catastrophic injury. Therefore, it stands to reason that most (if not all) of the suspended fighters will be able to fully recover and return to action without major surgeries or extended recovery times. As always, time will tell for certain.
Watson, for his part, tweeted a picture of his injured foot but noted he plans on a quick return.

UFC 169 broke a somewhat ignominious record Saturday night when it set a new mark for the most number of decisions in a single fight card. A total of 10 of the evening’s 12 bouts went the distance, including all seven of the bouts appearing on the evening’s undercard.
In the evening’s main event, Barao defended his bantamweight title with a first-round TKO of Faber. In the co-main event, Aldo took a decision win over Lamas.
