UFC 212 results: Next matches to make for ‘Aldo vs. Holloway’ main card winners

It all went down last night (Sat., June 3, 2017) at UFC 212 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as Max Holloway stunned Jose Aldo with a third-round TKO to claim the UFC featherweight crown. Before that, a slew of fighters rounded out UFC 212’s main card. From Claudia Gadelha’s submission finish to Vitor Belfort’s decision win, the action was nonstop.

In order to understand the results and the divisional implications tied to them, we take a closer look at UFC 212’s main card winners and who they should fight next.

Winner: Max Holloway

Who He Should Fight Next: Frankie Edgar

Now that Holloway cashed in on his opportunity to claim undisputed gold with a knockout of featherweight champion Jose Aldo at UFC 212, the Hawaiian striker must think about defending his new prize. Considering Holloway already holds a win over top contender Cub Swanson, Frankie Edgar seems like a likely candidate to test the new champ by the end of the year. Edgar looked sensational against Yair Rodriguez at UFC 211 and was probably going to get another title shot as long as Aldo didn’t win.

Winner: Claudia Gadelha

Who She Should Fight Next: Tecia Torres

Despite a dominating performance in her submission win over Karolina Kowalkiewicz at UFC 212, Gadelha is not in immediate position to challenge current UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk for a third time. Instead, the Brazilian contender must get past another willy strawweight in order to stamp her ticket to a title shot in 2018. Considering the options are scarce atop the division, Torres makes for one final test before a trilogy with Joanna.

Winner: Vitor Belfort

Who He Should Fight Next: Anderson Silva

Why not? Belfort has already squared off with his fellow Brazilian and tasted ultimate defeat. After dominating Nate Marquardt at UFC 212 via unanimous decision, Belfort feels rejuvenated and ready to fight out his contract. Silva is without an opponent since Kelvin Gastelum filled his lungs with the ganja, so why not pin the two legends against one another one more time? Of course, it would have to happen in Brazil.

Winner: Paulo Borrachinha

Who He Should Fight Next: Uriah Hall

Borrachinha already took out one New York native in Oluwale Bamgbose at UFC 212 via second-round TKO, so why not take a shot at another NYC middleweight, Uriah Hall, his next time out? Hall is ranked and riding a three-fight losing streak, so you know “Prime Time” is going to bring it to the young Brazilian. If Borrachinha can get past another skilled striker like Hall, it may be time for us to consider him a future title contender.

Winner: Yancy Medeiros

Who He Should Fight Next: Leon Edwards

After finishing Erick Silva at UFC 212 and pushing his welterweight record to 2-0, Medeiros is on a good enough roll to take a crack at the top 15. Medeiros is at his best and entertains the fans the most when he’s standing and exchanging. Edwards is just the type of fighter to offer that kind of fight. It’s another scrap the promotion can rely on to spark off a mid-tier PPV lineup.
