While next up for reigning UFC 145-pound champion Conor McGregor is his immediate 170-pound rematch in August with Nate Diaz, the first and only man to beat him in the UFC, following Jose Aldo’s interim UFC 145-pound title victory over Frankie Edgar at Saturday’s UFC 200 event, the early hype is already starting for a potential McGregor-Aldo 2 title unification bout.
As noted, immediately after Aldo defeated Edgar, he and McGregor shared a brief moment through the cage. For video footage and details on that, click here.
Additionally, one of the main photographs making the rounds coming out of Saturday’s historic UFC 200 event was a cool shot of an intense Conor McGregor focusing on the action as Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar competed to determine who will get the next shot at McGregor when he returns to the 145-pound division to make the first defense of the title he won by knocking out Aldo in just 13 seconds.
UFC themselves got in on the action, posting the photo on their official Twitter page and other social media outlets/websites. On the Twitter photo below, which is the main photo making the rounds, UFC included the caption,“If this photo doesn’t give you chills ….”
According to UFC President Dana White, he expects McGregor will absolutely return to the 145-pound division after his fight with Diaz, and that knowing how quick McGregor likes to turn around after he fights, it probably won’t be long before we get to unify the two 145-poiund titles.
Conor McGregor’s next fight, the aforementioned 170-pound rematch with Diaz, is scheduled to take place as the main event of UFC 202, which goes down on Saturday, August 20, 2016 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
