Live, blow-by-blow updates for tonight’s UFC Pittsburgh including the return of former 185lb champ Luke Rockhold as he faces former WSOF 2-div champ Dave Branch.
Join us, fellow combat sports enthusiasts, as Bloody Elbow provides live results, discussion, round scoring and play-by-play for tonight’s UFC Fight Night: Rockhold vs. Branch, live from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The UFC Pittsburgh main card will air live on FS1 at 10:00 P.M. ET, with the prelims starting at 8:00 P.M. ET on FS2. There are only 10 fights in tonight’s lineup, so there will not be any Exclusive Fight Pass.
The marquee matchup on the evening will witness the UFC’s former middleweight champion, Luke Rockhold, returns to action against the former WSOF two-division champion, David Branch. The co-main event for UFC Pittsburgh was supposed to be Mike Perry vs. Thiago Alves, but travel complications forced Alves to pull out, and now Alex Reyes will be stepping up to make his UFC debut, on short notice no less.

Main Card:
Luke Rockhold vs. David Branch : Middleweight
Rd.1- Branch moves in aggressively behind his jab, looking to take it to Rockhold. Branch lands consecutive jabs before shoving Rockhold against the fence. Rockhold turns out and finds open space, but Branch lands flush with a beautiful multi-punch combo. Branch achieves a brief takedown, but Rockhold makes his way back to his feet. Rockhold reverses the position and lands some sneaky knees to the body. Branch separates, and lands a big right hand before engaging in the clinch. Back to open space, Rockhold lands a solid leg kick, followed by a cross to the body. Rockhold throws a jumping switch kick, but Branch is unaffected. Rockhold clinches up with his opponent, and completes the takedown despite a minor fence grab from Branch. Rockhold finishes the round on top. 10-9 Branch
Mike Perry vs. Alex Reyes: Welterweight
Rd.1- Perry stalks forward and eats a teep to the gut. Reyes lands a clean right hand as Perry over commits. Perry lands a knee followed by a big right hand. Perry grabs ahold of the Thai Plum, throws an elbow, then regains the clinch to go to town with a brutal knee to the face, sending Reyes free falling to the canvas. Yikes!

Hector Lombard vs. Anthony Smith: Middleweight
Rd.1- Smith opens up with a head kick, taking advantage of his length. Lombard catches the next kick, and launches a haymaker that gets the attention of Smith. Smith throws a knee to the body as Lombard rushes in. Lombard gets on the inside and unleashes some heavy hooks, causing Smith to botch a takedown. Lombard allows Smith to his feet, and lands a body kick on the taller man. Lombard launches an overhand left that misses, then lands a leg kick. Smith connects with a cross, and Lombard attacks the leg again. Lombard lands a kick to the body in the same spot as before. Lombard lands with the left hook, and then with a left right hook combo. Smith doesn’t fire back, and Lombard attacks both sides of Smith’s lead leg. Lombard again connects to the leg of Smith, both to the inside and outside. 10-9 Lombard
Rd.2- Lombard returns to attacking the leg of Smith to begin the second frame. Smith lands a solid knee, but eats a series of hooks for his troubles. Lombard fakes the leg kick and throws a 3 piece combo, attacking the body and head. Smith appears to be spectating a bit, and eats a left hand to the jaw. Lombard lands a leg kick and Smith misses with a hook, and the Lombard kicks the leg again, and Smith misses with another hook. Lombard secures a body lock on Smith, and chips away with knees to the leg of Smith. Smith attempts a spinning elbow, which misses, but he finds open space as a result. A straight cross appeared to drop Lombard in the closing moments of the round, but it could have been a slip. At the end of the round, Smith yells out, ‘do you know my name yet?’ 10-9 Lombard
Rd.3- Smith came out aggressive, talking trash, looking to push the pace. Lombard lands a cross followed by a right hook. Smith lands a cross to the body, and then again. Smith lands a crisp jab, and then blocks a Lombard head kick. Smith lands a cross as Lombard moves forward. Lombard lands another leg kick, but Smith responds with a laser cross that drops his opponent. A few follow up strikes land, and the referee rescues Lombard.

Gregor Gillespie vs. Jason Gonzalez: Lightweight
Rd.1- Gonzalez goes right to work, landing a right hand followed by a head kick. Gillespie looks to wrestle, and then switches it up and throws an elbow that drops Gonzalez. Gillespie unleashes some solid ground and pound from the guard, but Gonzalez makes it back to his feet. Gillespie starts to tee of with lefts and rights, and Gonzalez returns fire with lefts and rights. The lightweights are knucking! Both men are trading, going toe to toe, and Gillespie ducks under for a huge takedown. Gillespie moves to mount, but Gonzalez somehow scrambles back to his feet. Gillespie rushes in and picks up another takedown, but Gonzalez again returns to his feet. Gonzalez connects with an uppercut that drops his opponent, but Gillespie recovers quickly, and looks to grapple. Gillespie achieves the takedown and moves into side control and throws an elbow before the round expires. 10-9 Gillespie
Rd.2- The lightweights flurry once again to start the second stanza, and Gillespie pulls the trump card and scores a takedown. Gillespie moves into full mount, locks up an arm triangle, and Gonzalez is forced to tap out.

Kamaru Usman vs. Sergio Moraes: Welterweight
Rd.1- Usman takes the center of the cage as Moraes lands a stiff jab. Usman lands a heavy calf kick, and follows up with a rip to the body. Usman knocks down Moraes, but allows him to return to his feet. Moraes lands a counter uppercut to left hook as Usman presses forward. Moraes scores a mean cross a Usman moves in again. Moraes throws the overhand right that connects, and Usman responds with a jab to leg kick. Moraes lands with right left combo, and Usman respond with a devastating right cross that drops Moraes. One followup hammerfist lands and the referee steps in to rescue Moraes.

Justin Ledet vs. Azunna Anyanwu: Heavyweight
Rd.1- Anyanwu pushes his opponent back with pressure, as Anyanwu pumps the jab. Ledet misses with a mean cross. Anyanwu lands a jab to the gut of Ledet, and then again. Ledet scores twice with the jab, as Anyanwu returns to the body with a jab of his own. Anyanwu lands a solo right hand that gets the attention of Ledet. Anyanwu eats a jab cross combo from the taller fighter. Ledet starts to loosen up with the hands, working behind his jab. Ledet lands a lead right hand as Anyanwu is spectating. Anyanwu lands an overhand right in response to a jab, but Ledet rolls with the punches and appears unaffected. Anyanwu lands a heavy cross to the gut as Ledet circles away. 10-9 Ledet
Rd.2- Anyanwu opens the second frame with an overhand right to uppercut combo, and Ledet pushes away to find space. Ledet pops the jab out time and time again, stifling the rhythm of his opponent. Anyanwu whiffs with an overhand right, and goes to the well again, connecting a bit. Ledet returns to the jab, backing off Anyanwu. A clean jab to left hook lands for Ledet, and Anyanwu responds with a right hand. Ledet again with the jab, this time following it with a straight right. Anyanwu chases and throws a wild right hand that misses by a mile, and goes back to eating the jabs of Ledet. Both men kind of just stand at range for remaining moments of the round, and the crowd lets them know how they feel about it. 10-9 Ledet
Rd.3- Anyanwu comes out pumping his jab, and launches a huge overhand right that almost connects. Anyanwu is going for it, chasing Ledet and slinging heavy leather in his direction, connecting with the left and right. Anyanwu leaps in with a left hook to right combo that Ledet absorbs well. Ledet pokes his jab back out, but Anyanwu bull rushes forward with his right hand. A jab lands for Ledet, but Anyanwu lands a stinging cross hook combo. A stiff jab lands for Ledet, but Anyanwu connects with his right hand, wobbling Ledet for a moment. Anyanwu moves forward as Ledet dances around him with much better footwork, and much fresher legs. Anyanwu throws the jab and follows up with the right hand, but Ledet blocks it well. Ledet scores with the jab as he moves, but Anyanwu lands a hook to the body and then lands upstairs as time expires. 10-9 Anyanwu

Tony Martin vs. Olivier Aubin-Mercier: Lightweight
Rd.1- The lightweights meet in the center looking to feel out the other man. An early USA chant ensues. OAM lands an inside leg kick to score first, and then lands a kick to the body. OAM reaches with a long left cross that seemed to just touch the target. Martin blocks and overhand left, and throws a cross to the body of OAM. OAM scores with a leaping right hook. Martin lands a straight right hand and OAM shoots in, bringing the fight to the cage. Martin reverses the position and pins OAM’s back to the fence, scoring with short punches to the face. OAM looks for a Judo toss, but Martin is wise to it. OAM attempts another throw, but this time gets it, and lands in side control. Martin remains cool and scrambles back to his feet, where the lightweight both swing as the round expires. 10-9 OAM
Rd.2- Both men searching for foot position in the southpaw vs. orthodox matchup. OAM lands a kick to the body and then shoots in. Martin defends well, but OAM’s second attempt earns him top position. OAM ultimately passes into side control, but Martin is doing well with not absorbing much damage while on his back. Martin stands back up to his feet, and OAM looks to take the back. OAM scores another takedown up against the cage, but eats a mean up kick as he looks to pass. Martin looks to sweep from his back, but OAM remains in top control as the round comes to a close. 10-9 OAM
Rd.3- Martin comes out with a look of urgency, and lands a right cross. OAM throws a leg kick but Martin checks it. OAM goes for the takedown but Martin locks up a Guillotine, and transitions to an Anaconda attempt. OAM escapes, but gives Martin the top position. Martin lands some solid punches to face of OAM, before transitioning to the back with the body triangle. Some short strikes score for Martin, but OAM is doing a good job of tying up the arms. Martin works for a RNC, but OAM snuffs it out early. Martin continues to tee off with strikes from the back of OAM as time dwindles down. 10-8 Martin
Tony Martin vs. Olivier Aubin-Mercier by split decision (29-28 x2, 28-29)
Daniel Spitz vs. Anthony Hamilton: Heavyweight
Rd.1- Spitz begins with a lot of side to side movement, and lands a sneaky right hand that dropped Hamilton. Spitz instantly follows up with punches in bunches to the head of the downed Hamilton, forcing Tan Dan to step in and stop the fight.

Krzysztof Jotko vs. Uriah Hall: Middleweight
Rd.1- Jotko moves right at Hall, pumping his jab. Jotko lands a jab uppercut combo, as Hall backs up to the cage. Hall lands an inside leg kick, and gets his back off of the cage. Jotko presses his foe back up to the cage, and uncorks a series of uppercuts that put Hall in all sorts of danger. Hall drops to his feet momentarily, and returns to his feet just to eat more punches. Jotko gets the takedown, and lands some heavy ground strikes before transitioning to mount. Jotko takes the back, but Hall stand up to his feet. Jotko commits to a RNC, and they fighters drop down to the mat, but Hall escapes. Hall scrambles back to his feet, and lands a big left hand. Jotko presses forward with a flurry as Hall puts his own back to the cage. 10-8 Jotko
Rd.2- Hall leads off with a straight right hand that misses. A teep kick lands to the body of Jotko, and then Hall goes to the leg. Hall goes high with a spinning kick, but Jotko moves inside and escapes danger. Jotko scores with an oblique kick, and then lands to the body. Jotko lands a right hand as Hall pressures forward. Hall launches a snake strike of a right cross that flattens Jotko, and then follows his foe to the mat to finish up with ground strikes.

Gilbert Burns vs. Jason Saggo: Lightweight
Rd.1- Burns takes the center of the cage as Saggo launches an up kick straight down the middle. Burns throws a kick to the body, but Saggo block it well. Saggo lands a leg kick, but Burns lands a left right combo. An uppercut left hook combo misses for Burns. Burns leaps in and lands a left hook, and then leaps in again but with a straight right hand. Burns shoots in, but Saggo defends well and remains vertical. Saggo misses with an overhand right. Burns connects with a right hand in close. A body kick lands for burns, followed by another right hands. Burns falls to the mat and Saggo stands over him, kicking the legs. Burns is up and blasts a double leg takedown against the cage, with Saggo in butterfly guard. Burns transitions to the back, but stands up as the clock winds down, and lands a flurry as the bell sounds. 10-9 Burns
Rd.2- Burns throws an overhand right to start the round, but Saggo absorbs the blow on the arm. Saggo lands a solid kick to the body, and then lands again. Burns kicks to the body, but Saggo catches it, and trips Burns to the canvas. Saggo again towers over Burns, looking to kick the legs. Burns returns to his feet, and lands a clean right hand. Burns launches another body kick, and follows up with a flush cross. Burns misses with a haymaker. Burns shoots in and scores a big takedown into the guard of Saggo. Two unblocked punches land for Burns, but Saggo uses the moment to scramble back to his feet. Burns lands a jab, but Saggo returns a much harder cross. Saggo pumps the jab and lands a big kick to the body. Burns slips a jab, and lands a smooth overhand right that drops Saggo like a sack of potatoes, for the one-punch KO!!!
