A heavyweight matchup has been added to the upcoming January UFC Fight for the Troops 2 event between former K-1 kickboxer Pat Barry (5-2) and Joey “The Mexicutioner” Beltran (12-4).
MMAWeekly.com confirmed the bout with sources close to the fight, but did not find out if the fight would make the television broadcast. It’s safe to bet that it will make it onto television.
Barry was submitted by his childhood idol, Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic at UFC 115 last June. His last three fights with the UFC put him at 1-2, having lost to the Croatian, TKO’d Antoni Hardonk at UFC 104, and losing to Tim Hague at UFC 98. His TKO win over Hardonk earned Barry both the “Knockout of the Night” and the “Fight of the Night” honors.
Beltrain also enters the bout with a loss on his record, having dropped a unanimous decision to Matt Mitrione at UFC 119, but picking up a “Fight of the Night” award for it. “The Mexicutioner” had won three straight defeating Hague at UFC 113 via unanimous decision, Rolles Gracie at UFC 109 in his promotional debut, and Houston Alexander by TKO at a 5150 Combat League event in January of this year.
