At the post fight press conference for this past Saturday nights (Nov. 12, 2011) UFC on FOX event, Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White awarded $65,000 in bonus money to newly crowned champ Junior dos Santos, Ricardo Lamas, Ben Henderson and Clay Guida.
Dos Santos earned the “Knockout of the Night”, while “Submission of the Night” went to Lamas, and the “Fight of the Night” bonus was awarded to Henderson and Guida for their three round scrap.
UFC on FOX: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos took place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California with a full fight card, but with only one bout being shown live on television. The entire prelim card was streamed live on the web on Facebook and FOXSports.com, leaving the heavyweight title fight between Dos Santos and Velasquez as the only televised match.
Despite two quick finishes on the night, with DaMarques Johnson finishing with a knockout victory, it would be ‘Cigano’ who would walk away with the KO bonus. Dos Santos took 64-seconds to finish the former champ, landing a punch to the side of Velasquez’ head and following it up with some ground-and-pound to finish the fight.
Lamas faced Cub Swanson in an exciting bout, with the fight going back-and-forth on the feet and on the ground. Swanson looked close to finishing in the first with a guillotine choke, but wasn’t able to finish. Trying to do the same choke in the second, Lamas was ready for the submission avoiding the choke and sinking his own arm-triangle choke to end the fight at 2:16 of the second.
“Fight of the Night” deservedly went to lightweights Henderson and Guida who put in a non-stop three round scrap. Despite both being proven wrestlers, the two kept things exciting by scoring some big punches and each looking to finish with a submission. In the end it was Henderson who would earn the judges unanimous decision and now moves on to face Frankie Edgar at UFC 144 in Japan this coming February.
