The UFC will return to FOX on Saturday, Jan. 28 with a fight card that will be headlined by a light heavyweight bout between former UFC champion “Suga” Rashad Evans and the undefeated Phil “Mr. Wonderful” Davis.
It is widely believed that an Evans victory will set him up for a long-awaited battle with his former friend and training partner, Jon Jones. With that in mind, Jones, the current UFC light heavyweight champion, has admitted to have a rooting interest in the upcoming bout, offering the following during the Jan. 20 UFC on FX broadcast:
I’m picking Rashad Evans. I’m in his corner. I want to fight Rashad. He’s the antagonist of my career. There’s no just pumping up pay per views when it comes to me and Rashad. Everything about us disliking each other is true. After we fight each other it’ll all be clear and he can go have a seat somewhere.
The co-main event will feature two of the most outspoken fighters in the UFC, as middleweights Chael Sonnen and Michael Bisping go head to head. Bisping has been very vocal in the days leading up to the fight, telling Fighters Only:
Chael’s biggest weapon is his mouth – but this ain’t no kissing contest and he isn’t going to talk me to death. Unlucky for him he can’t hurt me with his mouth in the Octagon and I am going to crush him. I’m in my prime and this is my time.
As for Sonnen, he has been respectful of Bisping, refusing to engage in a war of words, telling Bleacher Report:
Let him have fun. There is only one Mona Lisa, one Leaning Tower of Pisa, one Saks 5th Avenue and one Chael P. Sonnen
The third fight on the Chicago card will also be a middleweight contest, pitting Demain Maia against Chris Weidman.
