Welterweights Pascal Krauss and Mike Stumpf entered the Octagon for a 15-minute affair as part of the UFC on Fox 6 undercard.
Both fighters were active and kept a solid pace throughout, but Krauss had the upper hand from bell to bell, outlanding Stumpf en route to a unanimous-decision victory.
What we’ll remember about this fight
Nothing really stands out about this fight. It was entertaining enough and not a complete blowout even if it was pretty one-sided.
The most memorable aspect to the action may simply be that Krauss looked good. He’s clearly improved since his last tussle in the Octagon.
What we learned about Pascal Krauss
His striking is coming along nicely. He may not be a world-beater on the feet just yet, but the German displayed an effective arsenal of techniques that included lunging uppercuts and straight head kicks.
His takedown defense also looked better than it did against John Hathaway. Perhaps training with Ben Askren is paying off. There’s still room for improvement—Stumpf got him down briefly in the first round and hit a switch during a scramble in the second—but it’s a step in the right direction for sure.
And considering how active Krauss stayed, he looks to have a deep gas tank.
What we learned about Mike Stumpf
He may be a good grappler, but Stumpf is limited by his mediocre standup. Krauss isn’t renowned for his striking, yet he picked Stumpf apart all night and the American just couldn’t seem to adjust.
At least Stumpf‘s striking deficiencies also showed that he is a tough guy with a very solid chin.
What’s next for Krauss
I’d like to see him take on either Mike Swick or the winner of Matt Riddle vs. Che Mills.
What’s next for Stumpf
More than likely, he’ll get the boot from the UFC.
