Rory MacDonald vs. Jake Ellenberger is one of the best, and most anticipated, welterweight tilts of 2013. They finally lock horns in the co-main event of UFC on Fox 8 on Saturday evening.
MacDonald, 5-1 in the UFC, has been dominant of late. Four straight wins in the division have moved him up to the No. 3 ranking. Ellenberger sits at No. 4 after back-to-back wins over Jay Hieron and Nate Marquardt.
BJ Penn, Nate Diaz and Mike Pyle were all no match for MacDonald. He exerted his size over Penn and Diaz, and simply brutalized Pyle in their fight. Ellenberger does not give up the size of the bloated lightweights, and he possesses an overall better game than Pyle. This is the biggest test yet for the young Canadian.
This bout may be the best example of technique versus power.
During the weigh-ins, Ellenberger stared MacDonald down while shaking his head up and down. MacDonald, as per usual, showed little to no emotion.
