Japanese legend Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto will have his second chance to make a first good impression in the UFC.
The highly touted bantamweight fighter was last seen in action this past February when he lost a unanimous decision to Demetrious Johnson, whom will now face champion Dominick Cruz for the organization’s 135-pound title.
Norifumi was hoping for a speedy return when he was scheduled to take on Chris Cariaso this past May; however, an injury forced his removal from the event and he was later replaced by prospect Michael McDonald.
Yamamoto was booked once again for a bout—this time with former contender Damacio Page—however both men suffered injuries in the lead up to their UFC 135 booking, with officials scratching the fight altogether.
Well, third time’s the charm, and Yamamoto appears to be back in good health as he will now be facing UFC newcomer, Darren Uyenoyama.
Uyenoyama, a Strikeforce and DREAM veteran, last fought in September of last year, when he defeated Shuichiro Katsumura in the famed Shooto promotion on second-round strikes.
The bout was first confirmed by MMAJunkie.com.
The two bantamweights will take part in the monumental UFC on Fox card, which features a heavyweight headliner pitting contender Junior dos Santos against champion Cain Velasquez—though both Yamamoto and Uyenoyama will be featured on the untelevised preliminary portion of the event.
