UFC on FX: Johnson vs. McCall

The Ultimate Fighting Championship promotion handed out $40,000 bonuses to fighters Mike Pyle, Erik Silva, Eddie Wineland and Scott Jorgensen for their work at the UFC on FX: Johnson vs. McCall event.

Pyle earned the “Knockout of the Night” bonus, while Silva was given the “Submission of the Night” bonus, and “Fight of the Night” went to main card fighters Wineland and Jorgensen.

UFC on FX: Johnson vs. McCall went down on June 8, 2012 at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida with bouts airing on FX and FUEL TV, as well as streaming live on Facebook.

Pyle dropped Josh Neer in the closing seconds of the first round, finishing the fight with one punch after connecting with a short right hand. Pyle appeared to be in trouble in the early going but recovered to win his second straight.

Silva ended things in the first round versus Charlie Brenneman. ‘The Spaniard’ used an aggressive strategy versus Silva, attempting several takedowns and pinning the Brazilian against the fence. During one scramble after a body kick by Silva, Brenneman wound up turtling on the mat and immediately had his back taken by Silva. It was only a matter of moments before Silva had his opponent flattened out and a rear-naked choke sank in to finish things in the first.

The two former WEC fighters, Wineland and Jorgensen, may have only fought for just under two rounds but they had fans in the BankAtlantic Center cheering them on for their scrap. Wineland would take the first round, using his height to his advantage by landing several jabs. Jorgensen did manage to open up a cut on Wineland’s face with a knee though. The second saw Jorgensen score a good takedown and appeared set to take the round before he was caught with a right hand. Wineland used two left jabs to set up a straight right, which sent Jorgensen to the mat dazed. A couple of short punches and it was over for ‘Young Guns’. The victory was Wineland’s first in the UFC.
