UFC on FX 3 (also known as UFC on FX: Johnson vs. McCall) will take place this Friday night in Sunrise, Florida.
The fight card on paper isn’t one that casual fans are going to flock to, but for those who follow the UFC relatively closely, this is a card they are excited for—and it will be a great night of fights.
One of the questions most frequently asked is who has the most to gain? Which fighter is going to take the biggest leap forward with a win?
More often than not, the fighter contending for the belt would be the one who has the most to gain. In this case there is no title fight, but the winner of Demetrious Johnson and Ian McCall will take on Joseph Benavidez for the first ever UFC flyweight championship at a later date.
“Mighty Mouse” was originally awarded the win in his first match against McCall, but there was a mishap in calculating the scoring and the decision was later correctly announced as a draw.
Should Johnson lose he will fall to 0-2-1 over his last three fights, but if he wins he will catapult into a title fight. This is a pivotal fight in his career. A fight that could propel him towards being the face of the UFC flyweight division.
McCall is facing a similar situation. A loss would put him at 0-1-1 for his first two UFC fights and could also temporarily slow down the buzz he has created for himself amongst MMA fans.
The fact of the matter is that the stakes are the highest for the Johnson/McCall fight. When looking at the fight card from top to bottom, nobody has more to gain from a win than these two.
