THQ went to great lengths to make gameplay improvements with UFC’s latest video game venture, UFC Undisputed 3. While that should result in a better product, the true gem when it comes to this game is the massive roster of fighters.
Thanks to the addition of PRIDE fighters and downloadable content, gamers can choose from an incredible 162 different competitors. Gameplay can only help a game’s playability so much, but being able to continually use different fighters allows players to keep things fresh.
When it comes to other fighting games like wrestling or boxing, 50 playable characters is usually considered to be a pretty sizable roster. That pales in comparison to what UFC Undisputed 3 brings to the table as essentially every relevant fighter from the present day and years past is represented.
If you’re a true fan of UFC, then the chances of getting bored with this game any time soon are awfully low. Every weight class is very well represented in the game, keeping things fresh will be extremely easy to do as the options are basically limitless.
There is also the potential to move some fighters to different weight classes, so there is truly an incredible number of matches that the player can create. The inclusion of PRIDE fighters also brings about a new game mode in PRIDE Grand Prix.
That mode allows gamers to control a PRIDE fighter and have multiple fights in the same night. This is significant because damage suffered in one bout carries over to the next. It may not seem like a big deal, but it is yet another cool wrinkle that having such a comprehensive roster allows for.
The inclusion of some classic fighters also gives players the ability to have dream matches that were never possible in real life. That is always a big part of the fun when it comes to boxing games, so UFC Undisputed 3 having a strong legends roster helps even more.
Since UFC games are still in their infancy, there is plenty of fine-tuning left to do. Until the gameplay becomes flawless, though, having so many options makes the game a must-have. Even if you aren’t a fan of mixed martial arts, UFC Undisputed 3 has enough staying power to make it worth a buy.
