Chael Sonnen and Michael Bisping “fought” to a draw in their grappling match at the UR Fight event, which aired on iPPV on Sunday night, March 20th.
The first two rounds of their three round grappling match, which was contested under Metamoris rules (meaning only a submission ends the match, otherwise it’s an automatic draw), saw the two circling and hand-fighting a lot. Finally, in the third round, Sonnen scored the only takedown of the match, but failed to do anything with it.
After their match was over, Bisping apologized to the fans for the slow performance and lack of action, while Sonnen congratulated “The Count” on his recent win over Anderson Silva.
“He’s the number one contender, bottom line,” said Sonnen. “Let’s get behind him and get him a world title fight.”
In the main event, Roy Jones Jr. scored a highlight reel knockout at 2:30 of the second round of his boxing match against virtually unknown Vyron Phillips.
Also featured on the card was a pro wrestling contest between Rey Mysterio Jr. and Kurt Angle. The match was a best of three falls match, which Mysterio won when rapper Riff Raff distracted Angle during the third and final fall.
Finally, in the lone MMA match on the card (as attempted fights between Dan Severn and Ken Shamrock, as well as Severn vs. Tank Abbott fell through), Shannon Ritch defeated Maverick Harvey via rear-naked choke submission.
