With the loss of the UFC middleweight title bout between Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen II from the UFC 147 card, UFC president Dana White noted that UFC featherweight champ Jose Aldo would likely step in as the main event replacement at the upcoming June event.

With Aldo moving cards to face an unknown opponent, it leaves the recently announced UFC 149 card in Calgary, Alberta without a main event.

At today’s UFC press conference in Brazil, White offered the possibility of slotting in another UFC title match into the main event slot, pitting light heavyweight champ Jon Jones (16-1) and current No. 1 contender Dan Henderson (29-8) against one another.

“Dan Henderson and Jones could be a possibility. Obviously, Jones just fought his first five round fight, his hands are sore, all the things that go along with coming out of a fight like that. We’ve got to give him a few weeks to see how he feels, then we’ll figure out what the main event’s going to be in Calgary. But that would be awesome, if we could make that fight, that would be great.”

Jones successfully defended his title for a third straight time this past weekend at UFC 145, earning a unanimous decision over former champ Rashad Evans.

Henderson has been patiently waiting for a title match after earning the No. 1 position last fall by defeating Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua by unanimous decision at UFC 139.
