He might have been submitted by Nate Diaz in the second round of their main event bout at March 5’s UFC 196, but featherweight champion Conor McGregor still threw some trash talk at the Stockton slugger with a descriptive photo yesterday that teased a different result in the rematch.

Understandably miffed at how McGregor’s first-ever loss has been portrayed, Diaz took to his own Instagram account to post a simple reply that featured only a telling image rather than any semblance of trash talk. Check it out:

Looking at Diaz vs. McGregor I from that point of view, it obviously seems as if Diaz dominated the bout, and when he hit the Irish superstar with a two-punch combination that wobbled him in the second frame, he obviously did just that by locking on the fight-ending rear-naked choke.

The facts of the matter have also riled up the mixed martial arts community, as many believe ‘Notorious’ should go back to featherweight to defend his title against Frankie Edgar or Jose Aldo considering he has zero defenses since he won it in December.

But McGregor had his own moments in the fight, particularly in the first round that he appeared to win, and with a more efficient utlization of his energy, a rematch could most certainly have a different outcome.

Diaz will most likely come into the bout supremely confident, however, and it seems McGregor’s already suspect ground game was called into serious question during the telling fight. A veteran of several more high-profile bouts as well, Diaz is also the bigger fighter on top of it all, a disadvantage McGregor saw go his way in extreme fashion during his dominant, undefeated run at featherweight.

Regardless, heat for their rematch is starting to build whether fans like it or not. And even if other fights might seem to make more sense for McGregor, let’s be honest — we’re all going to be tuning in at UFC 200.

Whether or not we watch a different result is up to McGregor.

Nick Diaz is easily one of the most popular fighters in mixed martial arts (MMA) today.

His brash microphone skills, precision boxing, durable chin and intelligent offensive output makes him one of the most well-rounded fighters in Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) today, whether at Welterweight or Middleweight.

But, despite his striking skills and raw toughness, the 32-year-old Stockton, Calif., native is even better on the ground. This recent video posted by BJPenn.com showcases the flexibility needed to pull off some of the guard positions and submission attempts that the veteran has provided over the years.

It’s a staggering feat to be able to bend like a ballerina, but Diaz seems to have it down pat. There are probably only a…

Junior dos Santos: Rothwell has ‘confidence’ like McGregor

JDS talks about his upcoming opponent, Ben Rothwell, and believes the heavyweight veteran shares similarities to Conor McGregor.

Add “Big Ben” Rothwell to the list of fighters compared to Irish sensation Conor McGregor. “The Notorious” has been likened to Nick Diaz, Chael Sonnen, Floyd Mayweather Jr, and Prince Naseem Hamed on his path to stardom in the UFC.

Former heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos, who will square off with Rothwell in the main event of UFC Fight Night 86, made the comparison to MMA Fighting on Friday.

“I see some of Rothwell’s characteristics like Conor McGregor,” dos Santos said. “They are a bit different, Conor talks more, but it’s the confidence. They truly believe the things they are saying. It might sound ridiculous sometimes, but they really believe they are capable of doing what they are saying. That’s a strong point for Ben Rothwell.”

After having mixed success in the UFC, Rothwell turned things up a gear when he returned to the Octagon in 2014. The 6 ft 5 inch heavyweight was suspened for 9 months by the Nevada Athletic Commission following a failed drug test for elevated levels of testosterone after his TKO win over Brandon Vera. Rothwell made a statement in his return when he knocked out Alistair Overeem at UFC Fight Night 50 and has etched his name into the top 5 HW rankings with consecutive wins over Matt Mitrione and Josh Barnett.

JDS, who has struggled to find his footing since losing to Cain Velasquez at UFC 166, acknowledges Rothwell’s new-found self belief and expects a war on April 10th.

“He believes in the weapons he has. He’s a strong man, a big dude, and it’s going to be a tough fight for both of us,” he continued. “I think he will try to stand against me, a striker, but his fight with Barnett showed that we have to pay attention to every area against him. He has some good techniques on the ground. He might not have many techniques, but he knows how to make it work so we have to be careful.”

Dos Santos was once feared as the baddest man on the planet but was knocked out by “The Reem” in December. The Brazilian will look to spring back into the winners column against Rothwell and reaffirm his position as one of the most dangerous fighters on the roster.

UFC Fight Night 86 will take place at the Arena Zagreb in Croatia on April 10th.

Beast mode! Watch UFC champion Luke Rockhold spar with former NFL star Marshawn Lynch

There aren’t too many people on this planet who can stand and bang with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight champion Luke Rockhold.

Heck, former UFC Middleweight champion Chris Weidman couldn’t do it at UFC 194, former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida couldn’t do it at UFC on FOX 15 and world-class striker Michael “The Count” Bisping couldn’t do it at UFC Fight Night 55.

So when former National Football League (NFL) superstar and Super Bowl XLVIII-winning tailback Marshawn Lynch attempted to spar with Rockhold in a recent video captured by Fancy MMA, things became a little playful.

It doesn’t look as if Lynch would ever have a future in mixed martial arts (MMA), but this isn’t the first time a dominant…

Mighty Mouse not looking to BW for superfights: I wake up at 137 lbs

Demetrious Johnson has heard the call to try going back to 135 lbs for potential fights with the top of the division, but fromt he sound of it, he’s not answering the phone.

Conor McGregor may not have won his welterweight bout with Nate Diaz UFC 196, where the featherweight champion decided to move up two full weight classes to take on a late notice challenger, but it looks like his move did spark a conversation. Would other title holders be well served to look for big fights outside of their normal division? It happens all the time in boxing, but very very rarely in MMA.

One current UFC champ (and a very very dominant one) appears to have bandied the idea about, and from his point of view, it’s just not practical. The champ? Demetrious Johnson, himself a former bantamweight and a former title contender in the higher division, but to hear him tell it, too much a natural flyweight to make the leap worthwhile.

Demetrious Johnson spoke to Fox Sports recently about the potential of moving back to 135 for a rematch with Dominick Cruz:

“Big fights (at bantamweight), but at the same time when Conor talks about ‘I’m going to 170’ this and that, the other day I woke up weighing 137 (pounds). That’s two pounds,” Johnson explained when speaking to FOX Sports. “Go ask (Dominick Cruz) what he’s walking around at, he’s probably at 160. Me going to 135 it’s like wake up and go take a (expletive) and I’m ready let’s jump on the scale.

“So it’s a little bit different. I’m truly fighting bigger men.”

“There was a point in time and I even went up to Matt (Hume) and was like ‘Matt, I think I’m ready to do it, I’m ready to go fight at 135, I want people at the edge of their seats like oh (expletive) the champ’s going to go fight at 135’. But he goes ‘there’s bigger things to do DJ’. He said if you can go out there and beat Anderson Silva’s record, that’s big. That’s what my goal is, and that’s where my heart is right now,” Johnson said.

“If somebody goes ‘you should go to 135’, my heart’s just not into it. I’m just not interested right now. If the money’s right, then I would, but I’m just not interested.”

So for those of you dreaming about seeing “Mighty Mouse” take another crack at 135 and some of the potential superfights that might entail, don’t hold your breath. Johnson next fights at UFC 197 on April 23rd, where he’ll take on young rising contender Henry Cejudo for the flyweight title.
