St. Preux threw out a high kick that got blocked. “Feijao” missed a leg kick. A lunging straight right hand from “OSP” was blocked as well. St. Preux landed a leg kick, but seemed to land wrong and started moving gingerly. Cavalcante took advantage with heavy leg kicks. “OSP” ate a right hand, but he landed a left hand and dropped “Feijao.” The round ended with St. Preux in top control.

Round two saw “OSP” move around a bit better. Cavalcante continued to be hesitant and was in defensive mode. “Feijao” opened up with a right hand. “OSP” landed two solid jabs. St. Preux dropped an off-balanced Cavalcante once again. “OSP” stood in full guard and rained down hammerfists. “Feijao” survived the round.

An uppercut found the chin for St. Preux. Cavalcante swung wild and “OSP” avoided danger. St. Preux went for a takedown and pressed his opponent against the cage momentarily. The second takedown attempt was successful. Cavalcante regained closed guard, but didn’t do much off his back. St. Preux seemed content to grind out a decision win. “OSP” landed some stiff punches late and the final horn sounded.

Unsurprisingly, all three judges awarded the win to St. Preux.

Final Result: Ovince St. Preux def. Rafael Cavalcante via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

A big week for high-profile fight announcements got even bigger after Saturday’s UFC Fight Night: Hendricks vs. Thompson event on FOX Sports 1.

In addition to the CM Punk vs. Mickey Gall fight being confirmed, UFC also announced a pair of title fights for their UFC 197 pay-per-view in April.

Headlining the event on 4/23 will be the highly-anticipated rematch between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier, as “Bones” Jones looks to win back the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship he never actually lost in the Octagon in a rematch against D.C.

Cormier lost to Jones in their first meeting in January of 2015, but ended up being the man who became the new champion after Jones was stripped of the title following a hit-and-run incident in New Mexico.

The co-main event at UFC 197 will also feature a five-round title fight, as UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson defends against former Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo.

UFC 197 is scheduled for April 23, 2016 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The third fight on the main card of UFC Fight Night 82 featured a flyweight clash between Team Alpha Male stalwart Joseph Benavidez (24-4) and Zach Makovsky (19-7).

Makovsky followed up an inside leg kick with a huge takedown. Benavidez quickly got back up. “Fun size” ate a combination. An inside elbow found its target for Benavidez. He then landed a nice right hand and threw a head kick. Benavidez continued to put together some combinations until the horn sounded.

Benavidez landed a clean knee to the body one minute in the second stanza. Makovsky missed a spinning backfist. “Fun Size” went for a takedown, but Benavidez scrambled out. The same scenario played out seconds later. Makvosky earned a takedown and got both hooks in. Benavidez quickly got out and the round came to a close.

The final frame began and Makovsky pushed his opponent against the fence. That didn’t last long and Benavidez threw him off. Benavidez connected with an uppercut to the body. Makvosky landed a leg kick, but Benavidez threw some stiff elbows while “Fun Size” found his back against the fence. A right hand caused Makovsky to stumble. Benavidez dropped “Fun Size” with a punch as the final horn sounded.

The decision was clear.

Final Result: Joseph Benavidez def. Zach Makovsky via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier Rematch Announced for UFC 197

More than a year after Jon Jones defeated Daniel Cormier by unanimous decision at UFC 182 to defend his light heavyweight title, the two are slated for a rematch on April 23 in Las Vegas with Cormier now in possession of the belt, according to MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani

UFC confirmed the tilt on Twitter on Saturday night:

Jones was stripped of his light heavyweight belt last April and suspended indefinitely due to his involvement in a felony hit-and-run incident in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The 28-year-old didn’t serve jail time, but he was ordered to serve up to 18 months of supervised probation, per MMAJunkie.com’s Steven Marrocco

UFC 182 was the last time Jones stepped into the Octagon, but he hinted at a rematch with the 36-year-old Cormier in a since-deleted social media post, according to the Associated Press (via the Guardian).

Although Cormier came up empty in his light heavyweight showdown with Jones at UFC 182, he snagged the vacant title with a win over Anthony Johnson by submission in the third round of their bout at UFC 187 last May.

Cormier followed up his win over Johnson with a split-decision victory against Alexander Gustafsson on Oct. 3 at UFC 192.

Following that victory, Cormier reiterated he was interested in a rematch with Jones, but not if it came in the challenger’s home state of New York.

“Why should I allow this guy to go and fight where he’s comfortable?” Cormier said following UFC 192, per MMAFighting.com’s Marc Raimondi. “No, he has to go somewhere where he has to look at people in the eyes and hear the anger they have toward him for the actions that he did.”

Now Cormier will get his wish, with the two sides set to meet at the MGM Grand in Sin City in just over two months.

Since Jones hasn’t traded blows in a competitive setting since his last meeting with Cormier, a rematch should provide the former champion a chance to repair his image and climb toward the pinnacle of his weight class once again.

During the first part of 2016, the speculation about the main event of UFC’s April 23 pay-per-view event, which will now be labeled UFC 197 after tonight’s UFC 196 became UFC Fight Night 82 following the cancellation of its originally scheduled heavyweight title bout, was centered on the long awaited rematch between current light heavyweight champion

During the first part of 2016, the speculation about the main event of UFC’s April 23 pay-per-view event, which will now be labeled UFC 197 after tonight’s UFC 196 became UFC Fight Night 82 following the cancellation of its originally scheduled heavyweight title bout, was centered on the long awaited rematch between current light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and former champion Jon Jones.

Tonight (Saturday, February 6, 2016) on the UFC Fight Night 82 main card, the UFC confirmed that speculation by finally revealing the fight will take place in the main event of UFC 197 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

But that’s far from all that the event will feature, as flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson will take on rising Olympic gold medalist wrestler Henry Cejudo in the co-main event.

Video: The ridiculously awesome 'UFC 182: Jones vs. Cormier ...

Jones and Cormier had an infamous rivalry throughout 2014 and into early 2015 that may already rank as one of the most heated and hyped in UFC history. Shot into the media stratosphere by their outrageous UFC 178 Media Day brawl, ‘Bones’ would go on to outlast Cormier by unanimous decision in the main event of January 2015’s UFC 182.

All-time great Jones moved on to a rivalry with fearsome knockout slugger Anthony “Rumble” Johnson at UFC 187, but his highly publicized Albuquerque hit-and-run saw him out of the fight, stripped of his title, and suspended indefinitely by the UFC. It also opened the door for Cormier to step in and defeat ‘Rumble’ with an impression display of wrestling finished with a fight-ending submission.

Cormier also went on to defeat Alexander Gustafsson in a classic five-round war at last October’s UFC 192, and Jones was since reinstated, re-taking his No. 1 pound-for-pound spot in the official rankings in the process. But while Cormier has no doubt been an effective and deserving champion, many still feel that the official title rests with ‘Bones,’ the man who set the record for most consecutive light heavyweight title defenses and beat Cormier just a little over a year ago.

So one of the year’s most anticipated grudge matches is official. Who is your pick to emerge from Vegas with the 205-pound belt?

One night after proposing to his girlfriend, Alex Nicholson (6-2) was set to compete against Misha Cirkunov (11-2) in a light heavyweight scrap at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas for UFC Fight Night 82.

The two 205-pounders met at the center of the Octagon. “The Spartan” threw out a spinning body kick and spinning backfist early. Cirkunov landed a body kick. He ducked under a spinning backfist and pressed his opponent against the fence. Cirkunov once again capitalized on a bad spinning attempt. Referee Herb Dean warned Nicholson of a kick that went below the belt. The fight resumed and Cirkunov landed a stiff straight left hand. The round ended with Cirkunov landing a hard elbow in back mount.

Round two began and Cirkunov didn’t appear to be fresh as mentioned by Brian Stann, who thought the Xtreme Couture fighter may have been dealing with an injury. Regardless, he was able to once again gain top control, but this time he forced a tap with a rear naked choke. The submission looked more like a nasty crank that cracked the jaw of his opponent. You could hear the crack on the replay and Cirkunov mentioned he heard it before the tap.

You can watch the gruesome finish here, but be warned it’s a little brutal:

Final Result: Misha Cirkunov def. Alex Nicholson via submission (rear naked choke) – R2, 1:28
