UFC 159 will be headlined by a coaches battle and light heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen, but before the main event goes down, the card will play host to 11 additional matches.

Most recently scheduled for the event was a featherweight contest between Leonard Garcia and Cody McKenzie. The bout became public knowledge when Garcia Tweeted the news:

McKenzie will enter the outing having lost three of his last four, while Garcia has fared even worse of late, losing his past four, and five of his past six.

Given that the UFC headsman has been busy of late, and that more heads are expected to roll, this pairing almost definitely ensures a loser-leaves-town affair.

Stylistically, the match is an intriguing one. Both combatants have grasped the majority of their victories via submission, but Garcia will have a marked advantage on the feet. McKenzie will most certainly look for his trademarked guillotine choke, which is by far his sharpest tool.

How willing Garcia is to test the ground with McKenzie is a storyline worth following in this one, as is McKenzie’s ability to survive on the feet. The last time he competed, he was knocked out just 0:31 seconds into the opening round by Chad Mendes, and Garcia is known for his aggressive striking.

Though the match isn’t one that will draw much interest for the title implications is has, it should function as a solid complementary bout on the UFC 159 undercard, adding excitement, and likely, a finish.
