Six weeks removed from his brutal knockout loss at UFC 300, Justin Gaethje is already back in the gym.

After claiming the BMF title with a sensational second-round head-kick KO against Dustin Poirier last summer, ‘The Highlight’ became the first man to defend the bragging rights belt. Featuring at the promotion’s landmark event on April 13, Gaethje stepped inside the Octagon with former featherweight champion Max Holloway and delivered an instant classic.

Unfortunately, things would not go Gaethje’s way as the former interim titleholder suffered a brutal buzzer-beating knockout, ending his short run with the BMF belt and effectively taking him out of the lightweight title picture for the time being.

Less than two months removed from the four-minute and 49-second war, Justin Gaethje is already trying to get back into the swing of things, courtesy of a video clip shared on the fan favorites’ Instagram.

“Trying to get back in the routine, ” he wrote.

What’s next for Justin Gaethje?

We’re still a long way off from seeing Justin Gaethje back inside the Octagon as he previously told MMA Hangout that he wanted to take at least six months off before jumping back into full-on training.

“Metaphorically, I could be ready tomorrow, but physically, I do want to take care of myself,” Gaethje said. “I do think that repeated concussions, with me going to sleep like that, me receiving that shot, it would be foolish for me to jump back into training anytime before 180 days.

“I could do cardio, I can stay in shape, that’s what I want to try and do — especially [with] the older I get, the harder it is to get back to the best shape of my life, so I want to stay active. Obviously, the physical contact is going to be limited for quite some time, just because I want to preserve myself. … I think six months, at least, before I get back to taking shots. But that doesn’t say that I won’t be training the whole time” (h/t MMA Fighting).

Who he faces in his inevitable return will ultimately come down to how things play out at the top of the division over the next several months.

On Saturday, June 1, reigning lightweight world champion Islam Makhachev is scheduled to defend his title against two-time Gaethje opponent Dustin Poirier in the UFC 302 headliner. It will likely be Poirier’s final shot at gold as ‘The Diamond’ has already been talking about retirement following the fight — win or lose.

Makhachev vs. Poirier

Should Makhachev survive ‘The Diamond,’ he’ll likely find himself paired up with No. 1 ranked contender Arman Tsarukyan this October when the UFC makes its annual fall pit stop in Abu Dhabi.

How those two fights shake out will determine what comes next for Gaethje and ‘The Highlight’ guns for one more shot at the 155-pound crown before laying down his own gloves.

Gane joins a long list of UFC fighters who turned down marquee matchups in favor of the silver screen.

Current UFC interim heavyweight champion, Tom Aspinall, is scheduled to defend the substitute strap against No. 4-ranked Curtis Blaydes in the upcoming UFC 304 pay-per-view (PPV) co-main event, locked and loaded for Sat., July 27, 2024 at Co-op Live in Manchester.

Blaydes stepped up after former title challenger, Ciryl Gane, passed on the opportunity to shoot a new movie.

“Well, I learned a new word that describes Ciryl Gane perfectly,” Aspinall told Submission Radio. “He’s a thespian. Ciryl Gane’s a thespian these days. Is that the right word? That means an actor, right? That means like someone who’s into acting.”

The 34 year-old Gane, who already has multiple film and television roles to his credit, will instead compete at UFC Paris in September.

“So he’s thinking, ‘F**k this MMA stuff. I’m going to go and be the French Arnold Schwarzenegger here. I’m going to crack on with that.’ Fair play to Ciryl, though,” Aspinall said in a separate interview with The Mac Life. “Good luck to him. I’ve got nothing against Ciryl. Right now, he’s being an actor, and I wish him all the best in that. I do wish him luck with it. No, I probably won’t watch it. No hard feelings against Ciryl. I’m not trying to throw him under the bus or anything. I respect him. I respect what he’s doing.”

Sean Strickland, like so many other UFC fighters, is prepared to die inside the Octagon.

I’m not sure a co-main event against Paulo Costa is worth dying for; but hey, whatever gets you into the gym every morning to train, I suppose. “Tarzan” battles “The Eraser” as part of the UFC 302 pay-per-view (PPV) on Sat. night (June 1) inside Prudential Center in Newark.

“UFC 302, man, it’s going to be a bloodbath,” Strickland said during “Countdown to UFC 302” (watch the replay here). “I think that me and Costa, we’re going to go in the deep water. It’s going to be a 25-minute war.”

“I think we’re both going to be looking at each other in that third, fourth round, thinking, ‘f**k, we got one more round.’ But mentally, as always, I’m ready to die for what I want. And I think I’m going to pick him apart.”

Strickland (28-6) is looking to rebound from his decision loss to Dricus Du Plessis in the UFC 297 main event earlier this year in Toronto. As for Costa (14-3), he recently dropped a decision to former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker at UFC 298 in Anaheim.

Mike Tyson suffers 'Medical Emergency' during Cross-Country flight 2 months before Jake Paul fight

‘Iron’ Mike Tyson suffered a “medical emergency” while aboard a cross-country flight traveling from Miami to Los Angeles.

First reported by In Touch Weekly, the legendary pugilist “became nauseous and dizzy due to an ulcer flare-up 30 minutes before landing.” Initial reports claimed that a two-hour delay in the flight taking off from Miami was related to Tyson’s medical issue.

However, a representative for the former unified heavyweight world champion revealed that the delay was due to an air conditioning issue and unrelated to Tyson.

Thankfully Mr. Tyson is doing great,” Tyson’s representatives told The New York Post in an email. “He became nauseous and dizzy due to an ulcer flare-up 30 minutes before landing. He is appreciative to the medical staff that were there to help him. However, it’s false reporting that his medical attention caused the flight delay. This two hour delay was due to air conditioning issue on the aircraft.

As the plane was minutes away from landing in Los Angeles, passengers were asked to remain in their seats so that paramedics could board the vessel and tend to Tyson.

“He was in first class, but we were in an exit row and the stewardess was very chatty. They asked us to stay on the plane and landed so paramedics could enter,” a source told In Touch Weekly. “She said something like, ‘He’s a really important passenger so we wanna make sure he’s OK.’ I knew it was him, but I just mouthed the words ‘Mike Tyson’ and she nodded her head yes.”

Jake Paul Responds to claims that his fight with Mike Tyson is off

Luckily, it sounds like Tyson will be fine, but the news is sure to amplify the already-existing concerns surrounding his impending clash with Jake Paul on July 20. Tyson is scheduled to compete in his first professional boxing match since 2005 when he steps inside the 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas just a few weeks removed from his 58th birthday.

As news of Tyson’s medical issue spread across social media, reports immediately began claiming that his bout with ‘The Problem Child’ was canceled. Paul was quick to quell those claims, writing: “You love to make sh*t up before knowing the facts for clicks/likes. Nothing changed.”

Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson suffered a “medical emergency” on his flight from Miami to Los Angeles earlier today, but was reportedly treated and released after paramedics boarded his place to assist.

“Mike had some kind of medical emergency on the plane and paramedics boarded,” an eyewitness told In Touch. “Before the paramedics arrived the flight issued an announcement asking for a doctor — the message even came on everyone’s screens.“

Tyson, who turns 58 at the end of June, is scheduled to fight 27 year-old Jake Paul on Sat., July 20, 204 inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, a professionally sanctioned boxing match that will stream live on Netflix.

“He was in first class, but we were an exit row. They asked us to stay on the plane and landed so paramedics could enter. [The flight attendant] said something like, ‘He’s a really important passenger so we wanna make sure he’s okay.’ I knew it was him, but I just mouthed the words ‘Mike Tyson’ and she nodded her head yes.”

No question today’s incident will support detractors already slamming the July 20 spectacle as a reckless cash grab at Tyson’s expense. The former champ has competed twice since retiring in 2005, a pair of exhibition bouts against Corey Sanders (2006) and Roy Jones Jr. (2020).

“Thankfully Mr. Tyson is doing great,” a representative for Tyson told The Post. “He became nauseous and dizzy due to an ulcer flare up 30 minutes before landing. He is appreciative to the medical staff that were there to help him.”

Paul has not commented on Tyson’s medical scare.
