The New York State Athletic Commission denied Holly Holm’s request to appeal her loss against Germaine de Randamie at UFC 208.

“After a review of the video footage of the bout, the New York State Athletic Commission determined that there was no clear error or violation of statute or rule by Referee Todd Anderson,” an NYSAC official told Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting. “Therefore, the scoring and outcome of the bout will not be modified.”

Holm protested the outcome after De Randamie struck her following the bell in both the second and third rounds. Anderson didn’t immediately separate the fighters and didn’t deduct any points from De Randamie for the late blows.

Holm addressed the late blows immediately after the fight:

De Randamie, meanwhile, disputed any notion that she fought dirty.

“I never threw any dirty shots,” she said, per Dave Doyle of MMA Fighting. “I never threw any cheap shots around the referee. As soon as he stepped in and put his arm in, I stopped. Of course, I try to hear the bell and stop, but sometimes when you’re in the heat of the moment you’re in the fight. You get hit, you hit somebody.”

“It was never intentional. That’s what upsets me so much,” she added. “People try to say I’m a dirty fighter. I’m not a dirty fighter. It really hurts me when people say that. I never had any bad intentions. I truly respect Holly. I respect the UFC. I respect Holly’s camp.”

De Randamie, who won the inaugural UFC women’s featherweight championship, did offer to give Holm a rematch after the fight. While nothing has been set in stone, Holm is 0-3 since beating Ronda Rousey at UFC 193 and is unlikely to get a higher-profile fight than a rematch with De Randamie.

“We respect their decision and will not seek anything further, except a rematch from Germaine,” Holm’s agent Lenny Fresquez told MMA Fighting following the NYSAC decision on Tuesday.

Given all the drama already surrounding the first bout, the UFC certainly wouldn’t have any difficulty marketing a rematch.

Michael Bisping hasn’t forgotten about Luke Rockhold.

‘The Count’ secured his first even UFC title in a jaw-dropping first round knockout win over Rockhold back in June. Rockhold has since remained out of Octagon action due to an injury, however, he recently commented on an episode of The MMA Hour with MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani that he’d be prepared to forego a title opportunity to settle his differences with Bisping in a final trilogy bout.

Bisping got the opportunity to respond earlier this week (quotes via MMA Fighting), and stated that he believes Rockhold is done competing in mixed martial arts (MMA) after he ‘took his soul’ in their UFC 199 match-up:

“What is Luke Rockhold doing?” Bisping said. “When did he say he’s going to fight again? What are his plans? I do believe we are now almost in March. That fight was in June. I don’t know what happened there, but I think I took his soul. I don’t think we’ll ever see Luke Rockhold again. I beat the sh*t out of him. I don’t know, I think he’s done. The way he went down, I think so. Why hasn’t he fought again?

“A lot of time has passed. If that were me, I would’ve been right back in there.”

The middleweight champ has no shortage of foes in the 185-pound division, as he also has a bit of unfinished business with former division kingpin Anderson Silva as well. The pair tangled back in February of last year with Bisping taking home the unanimous decision win. The victory came with a bit of controversy, however, as a flying knee at the end of a round by Silva seemed to have rendered the Brit unconscious; but ‘The Spider’ walked away from Bisping without attempting to finish the fight.

Silva recently took home a controversial unanimous decision win over Derek Brunson at UFC 208 earlier this month (Sat. February 11, 2017), a fight that Bisping thinks the Brazilian actually lost:

“I thought he lost,” Bisping said. “I guess you could see an argument for him winning, but I think he disappointed. I thought Anderson really, to be honest, clowned himself, clowned everybody in attendance, clowned the UFC. It was clearly obvious that Anderson was the better fighter. He stopped the takedowns for the most part. His takedown defense looked great. And when he did decide to pull the trigger and actually throw something, he was all over Brunson.

“But he just didn’t pull the trigger. He stood there and he tried to do his usual Anderson Silva thing. He doesn’t fight with a sense of urgency because he’s the great Anderson Silva. Well, unfortunately, that’s not good enough. He got very lucky with the decision, and I feel that it’s a real shame, because like everybody, I’m a fan of Anderson Silva. I like watching him fight. I feel that he didn’t do justice to his legions of fans.”

Bisping also took a shot at Silva’s past issues with performance enhancing drugs (PEDs), stating that Silva looked a little ‘flabbier’ at weigh-ins before his match with Brunson:

“He did,” Bisping said. “I said that at the weigh-ins when I saw at the weigh-ins. He looked a little skinny, and a little flabbier. It’s weird. Weird when you don’t take steroids what happens to you.”

Do you think Bisping and Rockhold will get the opportunity to throw-down once again? Or will Silva instead run it back with the middleweight champ first?

Her fighting career remains uncertain at best, but former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will be returning to acting soon.

In a press release issued today (Tuesday, February 21, 2017), news came that Rousey will be featured on an upcoming episode of NBC’s “Blindspot” as a female prisoner called “Devon Penberthy”:

Rousey will be playing DEVON PENBERTHY: a female prison inmate who grew up in a working class family from the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and is serving time for transporting weapons across state lines. She is a tough, athletic woman who knows how to fight and handle a weapon.

While it sounds like a role obviously tailor made for Rousey, it can also be called a severe downgrade for the once-featured movie actress, who has played roles in high-budget feature films like “Fast & Furious 7,” “The Expendables 3” and, “Entourage.”

That should probably come as little surprise based on Rousey’s recent results in the octagon, where the once-feared champion has lost her last two bouts by devastating knockout to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes. She’s yet to publicly address her 48-second defeat to Nunes at December 30’s UFC 207 except for a canned statement on social media, and it’s largely thought we may have seen the last of her in a MMA cage.

And in the cutthroat world of show business, one’s window to enjoy the limelight – just like it is in the fight game – can close in an instant, as rumors circled about that Rousey’s acting skills were beginning to become less and less desireable in the months after her upset loss to Holm.

She was supposed to star in Mark Wahlberg’s “Mile 22,” but it was rumored her part was reduced significantly due to her acting skills – or lack thereof. A “Roadhouse” remake starring Rousey has also been delayed multiple times with no official release date known.

“Rowdy” is now doing guest roles on cable network crime dramas,  quite the setback from being one of the most sought-after female faces in Hollywood less than two years ago. The MMA great doesn’t need the money, but it doesn’t seem like something that will occupy the competitive drive of the Olympic bronze medalist.

Hey, there’s still fighting, as many feel she could rekindle her past success if she’d just leave a certain downtrodden head coach.
