Mike Perry is ‘Looking For That Albert Tumenov Fight’

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight Mike Perry made people take notice in his UFC debut. He earned a TKO win over Hyun Gyu Lim at UFC 202 back in August 2016. “Platinum” followed that performance up by knocking out Danny Roberts in the third round at UFC 204.

Perry was then booked to face Alan Jouban at the UFC on FOX: VanZant vs. Waterson card last month. While “Platinum” felt on top of the world after two knockout wins in the UFC, reality came knocking. He tasted defeat for the first time in his professional career.

Speaking with Chicago Land Sports (via Flo Combat), Perry acknowledge that there is room to grow from the loss and he is still developing:

“I learned that I got more to learn and that I can make simple mistakes. Everything that week was right. Everything, all my emotions, energy, my workouts, everything was great, but it wasn’t my night and of course I could’ve done more. That showed in the result of me taking the ‘L.’ The next time I’ll do more, I’ll do whatever it takes and I’ll come out with the ‘W’ man.”

While “Platinum” would love to get another crack at “Brahma,” he also has his sights set on another 170-pounder. The last man to beat Jouban was Albert Tumenov and he did so via TKO. Even though Tumenov has lost two in a row, Perry is still adamant about fighting the K Dojo Warrior Tribe member.

“I’m looking for the Albert Tumenov fight because he beat Alan Jouban and he’s a tough kid. I’d love to fight Alan again. Even if he chooses to move that way and run that way again, I know how to stop it this time. It really doesn’t matter who, but I want to get that Albert Tumenov fight.”

UFC 204

A pair of welterweights looking to continue their climb up the UFC rankings will square off this October at UFC 204, as Leon Edwards meets Albert Tumenov.

Edwards (11-3) has gone 3-2 over a five-fight run with the promotion, including a recent decision win over Dominic Waters. He earned himself a fight-night bonus with an eight-second knockout of Seth Baczynski in Poland as part of a two-fight win streak.

Tumenov (17-3) owns a mark of 5-2 with the UFC, highlighted by five consecutive victories and three knockouts. He earned a bonus with a knockout of Alan Jouban back at UFC 192, but is coming off a second round submission defeat at the hands of Gunnar Nelson in May.

UFC 204 takes place October 8 from the Manchester Arena in England. Michael Bisping defends his middleweight title against Dan Henderson in the main event, while Vitor Belfort battles Gegard Mousasi in the co-headliner.

After suffering a recent defeat to veteran submission ace Demian Maia, Gunnar Nelson was looking to bounce back against the surging Albert Tumenov on the main card of today’s (May 8, 2016) UFC Fight Night 87 from Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Coming out looking sharp and elusive, Nelson began to pick apart Tumenov, who has looked like a destroyer as of late, on the feet. Later on in the first round, “Gunni” landed a perfectly timed takedown and controlled much of the action.

The Icelandic native would nail another beautifully performed takedown in the second frame before locking in a nasty rear naked choke to end the fight.

Conor McGregor’s team mate Gunnar Nelson returns as he takes on Albert Tumenov in Rotterdam tonight. Iceland’s Gunnar Nelson against the man nobody wants to fight at welterweight Albert Tumenov.

‘Einstein’ comes in to this bout with five straight wins, ‘Gunni’ needs to get a win back after losing a decision to Demian Maia in December last year. They touch gloves and we are underway.

They get in to the feeling out process, Nelson with a nice jab and a straight, Tumenov looking a little stiff as he kicks low. AT eats a huge left hook from Gunni, Nelsonmoving so well with that SBG style karate-ish stance. Tumenov lands a nice right hand though, body kick by Nelson and this fight is really going well now. Straight right from Nelson misses and now a head kick, but a body shot rips in from Tumenov and lands hard. Nice right hand to the chin by Tumenov but Nelson scores a massive takedown.

Nelson has full mount almost instantly, Tumenov in big trouble right now. Gunnar looking to posture up, Einstein needs to use his wits well here, brutal elbow from Nelson clatters Tumenov’s head off the canvas, he seems stuck here and unable to escape or even regain position. He finally bucks but ends up munching a nasty elbow again, one minute left and Gunni is trying to cut Tumenov’s face up big time. Another nasty elbow but Tumenov finally escapes and they stand. HUGE left hook by Tumenov and a side kick, great round, 10-9 Nelson easily.

Round two is a go, Tumenov has a nasty haematoma on the forehead from those elbows. Gunnar smelling blood but he needs to remain cautious. A raw body punch from Tumenov lands yet again, and a low kick now, Nelson counters well and switches stances. Jab by Gunnar but he looks a little slow now. Nelson with a takedown, maybe he was playing possum, and he’s landed in side control here. Looks to mount and he gets it, Tumenov in big trouble yet again. I’d be surprised if ‘Einstein’ survives this Nelson on the back of Tumenov now.

Body triangle is locked in and now Tumenov is eating punches to the face, choke locks in, this is overm Tumenov taps and that’s that.

Gunnar Nelson submits Albert Tumenov by rear naked choke submission round two.
