UFC middleweight fighter Alex Nicholson was arrested on a domestic violence charge after an alleged physical altercation with his fiancée on in May at a 7-Eleven convenience store. The arrest report states that the charges against Nicholson were not pursued due to his fiancée not showing up at the trial on August 3rd.

The UFC is currently reviewing the case, as stated in a statement. In the report filed by the Orlando Police Department, a witness saw Nicholson pick up his fiancee then carried her outside the store and dropped her on the ground. The witness informed police that several bystanders pulled Nicholson off the woman and took her back into the store and then locked the door behind them.

Another witness stated that Nicholson forced his fiancée outside the store with his body then took her to the ground. The alleged victim was redacted in the report because the victim did not want to answer questions from officers at the scene and did not know who Nicholson was. However, Nicholson already informed the police that the two were in a relationship and then she admitted they had been together for three years.

The victim had a contusion near her temple on her head, but she would not tell them how she got it. She was crying when talking to the police and would not leave with Nicholson because “she was afraid to be around him.” The woman left with a friend and refused to fill out domestic violence paperwork. Nicholson would not answer police questions about the incident, but did say multiple times that he would not touch his fiancée

The Florida State Attorney’s Office ended the case on August 26th. The UFC issued this statement to MMA Fighting:

“UFC reviewed the matter in question and noted that the State Attorney of Florida declined to proceed with a case against Alex Nicholson, and the case was dismissed,” the UFC statement read. “UFC takes allegations of domestic violence very seriously and will refer all information to a third-party law firm for additional review. UFC is committed to thoroughly exploring all allegations and taking appropriate actions following the completion of a third-party investigation.”

The clerk at the 7-Eleven called the police and through public records, stated on the phone with police that Nicholson did not have to put his hands on his fiancée. Nicholson can be heard in the background saying he didn’t put his hands “on anybody.”

Nicholson (7-2) is coming off a win over Devin Clark in July via first round KO and is scheduled to fight Sam Alvey at UFC Fight Night 97 on Oct. 15.

Following the controversy stemming from racial remarks he made while in the corner of his teammate Mike Perry, Alex Nicholson was the subject of a statement released by the UFC on Thursday afternoon.

UFC addressed the comments Nicholson made about Perry’s opponent, Hyun Gyu Lim, which were viewed as racist towards the Asian community. He stated the following while talking to Perry in the Octagon immediately before the fight, a remark that was caught by the microphones in the corners of the cage designed to pick up the comments made by corner men and fighters between rounds:

“He can’t even open his motherf*cking eyes, boy,”

The statement UFC released on Thursday addresses the fact that the company has already been in direct contact with Nicholson in regards to the situation. You can read their official statement on the matter below:

“UFC competitor Alex Nicholson made a derogatory comment toward another UFC athlete while cornering his teammate, Mike Perry, at UFC 202. UFC has addressed the matter with Nicholson, as well as Perry, to express the organization’s disappointment with Nicholson’s insensitive remark. As such, the organization informed Nicholson that any future instances of this nature could result in a suspension from competition, or termination of his contract.

“UFC requires all athletes to act in an ethical, responsible and respectful manner, as mandated by the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy. UFC holds its athletes to the highest standard and will continue to take appropriate action if and when it is warranted.”

In addition to the initial reaction released by the UFC, Nicholson himself also issued his first public comments on the topic, which you can view below:

Two days after last weekend’s (Sat., August 20, 2016) UFC 202 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, a UFC middleweight has issued an apology for racially insensitive marks he was seen and heard issuing during the UFC Fight Pass-aired portion of the UFC preliminary card.

Alex Nicholson, who recently picked up his first UFC win in July with a shocking come-from-behind knockout of favored Devin Clark at the scintillating UFC Fight Night 91 from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was caught on video muttering the unfortunate phrase, “He can’t even open his motherf**king eyes,” when his teammate Mike Perry was introduced for his own UFC debut against veteran Hyun Gyu Lim.

The comments were immediately flagged for their brash oversight of common respect, especially in a bout when Perry had already drawn heat for instigating at the official weigh-ins. He went on to win the bout with a brutal knockout, so it’s unfortunate that Nicholson had to mar his teammate’s big debut win with some in-the-moment comments like this.

For his part, he attempted to mend the fences this evening with an apology on Twitter (via Bloody Elbow):

It takes a big man to admit when he’s wrong and apologize, although it remains to be seen if the UFC will take any action against Nicholson for the bad publicity they certainly don’t need in this age of seemingly nonstop USADA drug test failures.

He’s only a two-fight veteran in the UFC, having lost his debut to a brutal jaw/neck crank submission from rising prospect Misha Cirkunov after he proposed to his girlfriend at the weigh-ins.

Following his win at middleweight, it’d be unfortunate to see a potentially solid career be hindered by such a foolish statement.

We’ll see if this apology is enough in the eyes of the new UFC ownership.

One night after proposing to his girlfriend, Alex Nicholson (6-2) was set to compete against Misha Cirkunov (11-2) in a light heavyweight scrap at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas for UFC Fight Night 82.

The two 205-pounders met at the center of the Octagon. “The Spartan” threw out a spinning body kick and spinning backfist early. Cirkunov landed a body kick. He ducked under a spinning backfist and pressed his opponent against the fence. Cirkunov once again capitalized on a bad spinning attempt. Referee Herb Dean warned Nicholson of a kick that went below the belt. The fight resumed and Cirkunov landed a stiff straight left hand. The round ended with Cirkunov landing a hard elbow in back mount.

Round two began and Cirkunov didn’t appear to be fresh as mentioned by Brian Stann, who thought the Xtreme Couture fighter may have been dealing with an injury. Regardless, he was able to once again gain top control, but this time he forced a tap with a rear naked choke. The submission looked more like a nasty crank that cracked the jaw of his opponent. You could hear the crack on the replay and Cirkunov mentioned he heard it before the tap.

You can watch the gruesome finish here, but be warned it’s a little brutal:
