Former UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya, is set to have his charges dropped for possession of brass knuckles dropped should he stay out of trouble.

It was announced on Tuesday that Adesanya would have his charge of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon dropped, as long as he does not get arrested in the county of queens for the next six months.

The 33-year-old was detained at John F. Kennedy Airport when he was caught in possession of brass knuckles, which are illegal in New York.

Adesanya’s legal representative David Fisher spoke to MMAFighting about the results, declaring that the courts made the correct decision.

It was very simple and straightforward,” Fish said. “Both law enforcement and the Queens DA did the right thing here. He stays out of trouble for six months, and this is dismissed and sealed, which is the right result here.

“You can’t possess those things, but it was really just an innocent mistake. He rushed out the house he was staying in to get to the airport and basically dumped everything into his suitcase. Unfortunately, [the brass knuckles] were one of the things.” (H/T MMAFighting)

What’s next for Israel Adesanya?

It’s likely that the Adesanya will face Alex Pereira, where he will hope to avenge last month’s loss that saw ‘Stylebender’ lose his title to the Brazilian.

Adesanya was likely on his way to a decision victory until Pereira eventually landed his fatal left hook that saw the beginning of the end for Adesanya. It has not been decided when or where the rematch will take place, although it will likely take place in the first half of 2023.

How will the next 12 months play out for Israel Adesanya?

UFC Middleweight champion, Alex Pereira, has revealed he suffered from a crippling addiction to alcohol that he developed at just twelve.

For every great champion to be exactly that, a great champion, they must face struggles in life. For Alex Pereira, the newly crowned middleweight champion, this is no different.

Alex Pereira suffered extreme hardships from an early age, was raised in poverty, and was forced to work from a young age to help provide for his family, life experience is something ‘Poatan’ is not short of.

Thankfully now through his hard work and dedication, the former kickboxing world champion has been able to turn his and his family’s life around.

In recent months, Pereira touched upon just what life was like for him growing up in such a difficult environment and how it led him down the route of alcoholism.

“We weren’t living in a great situation,” Alex Pereira said. “My dad was a bricklayer, my mother was a housekeeper. So I started working early on, in a tyre shop. I was 12 years old, doing a grown man’s job… I got better and better, doing stuff that was really heavy for a 14, 15-year-old boy. So, at this time, I learned good and bad things. I learned how to drink.”

Alex Pereira opens up on struggles with alcoholism

Pereira revealed what seemed to him as harmless drinking at the time soon spiraled into something much darker. The middleweight champion continued to face this issue in the early stages before accepting that a serious change was necessary for him to better his chances in competition and life.

“I didn’t have any control over my addiction. I drank more and more. I said to myself, ‘I can quit drinking whenever I want.’ But that’s not how it works. I knew that sport was going to save my life. I discovered martial arts, mainly kickboxing. At first, I couldn’t train much and I drank a lot. After a while, I started training a lot and still drinking a lot…. Then, I finally started to train and drink a lot less. But it still wasn’t enough.

“At this time, I was already the national champion in kickboxing. My addiction was pulling my career down. I tried to drink only on weekends, but I couldn’t. It was too hard for me. (I was) 27, or something. I just drank everyday, everyday man. I could hardly stay one day off of it. At the worst times, I drank almost one litre of booze a day.” Pereira said on the Nem Me Viu Podcast. (Transcribed by MMANYTT)

Alex Pereira was able to take his life in a completely new direction and now because of this sits at the pinnacle of the middleweight division.

The next challenge he will now face comes in the form of combat foe, Israel Adesanya, who will be eager to rematch Pereira and try to reclaim the title he held for so long

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Glover Texeira says the talk of a middleweight title fight between new champion Alex Pereira and Khamzat Chimaev is nothing more than talk.

Alex Pereira is less than a month removed from his jaw-dropping fifth-round knockout of former titleholder Israel Adesanya at UFC 281. Shortly after his win, rumors began swirling that the Brazilian kickboxer would be making a shockingly short turnaround to defend his title at UFC 282 on December 10th. Of course, most of those rumors began thanks to a tweet by Chimaev claiming that he had accepted a fight with Pereira for the promotion’s final pay-per-view of the year.

Teixeira Confirms Alex Pereira vs. Khamzat Chimaev at Middleweight Was Never in the Cards

Appearing on ‘The MMA Hour‘ with Ariel Helwani, Alex Pereira’s teammate and cornerman Glover Teixeira decided to clear up some of the confusion, saying that much of the talk about a potential meeting between the two behemoths was nothing more than talk.

“This fight is all talk,” Teixeira said. “I usually don’t get into talk that doesn’t make any sense, but to light heavyweight, this guy says he accepted it. I remember Alex calling Jorge and saying, ‘Hey Jorge, let’s fight in Brazil.’

“I said, ‘What are you doing? You fight in Brazil? Your legs are hurt. You kicked so much, your shins are hurt. You haven’t recovered. Just chill for a while.’ And he’s like, ‘Yeah, but this guy’s talking, I’ll fight him at 205. I don’t want to cut the weight.’ I said, ‘Yeah, you can’t cut the weight.’ Alex is a very strong mind.”

Pereira did confirm that he had declined a fight with Chimaev at middleweight but agreed to meet the undefeated Chechen at 205 pounds in January when the UFC heads to Rio. Pereira claims that ‘Borz’ declined the compromise. Chimaev has since denied that he turned down a fight at the light heavyweight limit.

As for Glover Teixeira, he was originally scheduled to compete at UFC 282 next Saturday, running back his instant classic with Jiri Prochazka from UFC 275 in June. Unfortunately, Prochazka was forced to withdraw due to a shoulder injury that will require surgery. Facing a lengthy layoff, Prochazka vacated the 205-pound title which will now be on the line in the event’s new headlining bout, Jan Blachowicz vs. Magomed Ankalaev.

Alex Pereira may simply be the guy that has Israel Adesanya’s number.

After defeating ‘The Last Stylebender’ on two separate occasions under the GLORY Kickboxing banner, Alex Pereira opted to follow Adesanya to Las Vegas, signing with the UFC and going on a 3-0 run before finding himself matched up once again with Adesanya. After their middleweight title main event was in the books, UFC fans were introduced to a new world champion and Israel Adesanya was left with that old familiar feeling. Pereira scored his fourth win inside the Octagon with a shocking fifth-round knockout to capture the 185-pound title at UFC 282 last month, leaving Adesanya and his fans devastated.

Talk of an immediate rematch is still ever-present, but some, including former light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz, are convinced that ‘Stylebender’ will never score a victory over Alex Pereira. In an interview with Helen Yee, Blachowicz said:

“I think that Alex Pereira is that guy that Izzy is never gonna beat. He lost against him three times, but he was close in this fight in MMA. So if he changes a little bit of the game plan…it’s hard to say.”

Jan Blachowicz and Israel Adesanya Are No Strangers to One Another

To be fair, Adesanya was cruising to a guaranteed unanimous decision victory, but with three minutes to go, Pereira kicked it into overdrive, knowing exactly what needed to happen. After a barrage of unanswered strikes that had the former champion reeling, referee Marc Goddard stepped in, calling for the stoppage and crowning a new middleweight king in the process.

Of course, Israel Adesanya and Jan Blachowicz are no strangers to one another. The two squared off for the light heavyweight title at UFC 259 in March 2021. Blachowicz handed ‘Izzy’ his first defeat inside the Octagon, retaining his title in the process. ‘Polish Power’ would go on to lose that title seven months later to Glover Teixeira.

In a twist of fate, Jan Blachowicz will have the chance to become a two-time light heavyweight champion at UFC 282 on December 10th. With the title vacated by former champion Jiri Prochazka, Blachowicz will square off with No. 3 ranked contender Magomed Ankalaev to crown a new king of the 205-pound division.
