Ahead of his impending Octagon return at UFC 281 later this month, reigning middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya believes challenger, Alex Pereira will likely “fold” within the opening round of their title grudge match, doubting the Brazilian’s ability to keep up with his pace.

Attempting to land his sixth successful title defense at the middleweight limit, Adesanya managed to knock back Jared Cannonier in the main event of UFC 276 back in July during International Fight Week, in a less than memorable performance.

As for Pereira, the Sao Paulo striker moved to 6-1 as a professional on the same card at the T-Mobile Arena, stopping the streak of Sean Strickland with a thunderous first round knockout win on the main card.

Earning a title fight with Adesanya off the back of the massive knockout win, Pereira, a former two-weight GLORY Kickboxing champion, holds two wins over the Nigerian-Kiwi during their respective kickboxing stints, including a spectacular rematch KO win.

Israel Adesanya doubts Alex Pereira’s ability to match his pace at UFC 281

Previewing his Madison Square Garden fight with Pereira next weekend, Adesanya believes he will set a pace in the opening round of their undisputed title clash at MSG, leaving the Brazilian in the dust.

“I honestly think within the first five minutes, within the first round – even within the first three minutes, with the pace we’re gonna (bring), I think it’s gonna be a high pace,” Israel Adesanya said during a recent interview with The AllStar. “He’s (Alex Pereira) not gonna be able to keep that high pace.”

“In the first round, you’re gonna see him start to fold,” Israel Adesanya explained. “He’s not gonna be able to keep that high pace. I know the kind of pace I can (set). He’s not gonna last. If this fight has to go, each round, until someone falls, trust me, I know who’s gonna stand. I know who’s gonna be left standing.”

23-1 since his transition to professional mixed martial arts, Adesanya is in the midst of a three-fight winning run over Cannonier, Robert Whittaker, and Marvin Vettori – since a light heavyweight title challenge loss to former champion, Jan Blachowicz in March of last year.

Michael Bisping believes Alex Pereira was the rightful winner in his first fight with Israel Adesanya.

Pereira and Adesanya are set to fight for a third time later this month, this time under the MMA ruleset.

Adesanya will aim to defend his 185lb title along with getting one back on Pereira at the top of the bill at UFC 281. Pereira has beaten Adesanya in both of their previous fights, the first by decision, the second by a stunning KO.

Their decision in their first fight has come under scrutiny, especially by Adesanya who believes that he should have been awarded the victory.

Michael Bisping disagrees

Adesanya has vehemently argued against the result of the first fight, but former UFC middleweight champion, Michael Bisping, says that the judges got it right.

“These two [Pereira and Adesanya] have met before in kickboxing,” Bisping said via his YouTube. “They fought twice and Pereira beat Izzy twice. The first fight went to a decision, a very very close fight. I actually thought that Pereira deserved to win the fight, however, if you talk to Izzy, of course, he will say that he thought he should have won.”

“It was a pretty close fight, they never really got going with the combinations till later in the fight, both guys kinda pot-shotting, Pereira blocking a lot of shots, landing a lot of shots. Izzy landed some shots as well, it was a relatively close fight but if I had to judge I would have given it to Pereira.”

Adesanya and Pereira will do battle on November 11th in the world-famous Maddison Square Garden, New York. If Adesanya comes out victorious it will be his sixth successful title defense.

Like her brother, Alex Pereira, Aline Pereira will be switching her career from an impressive kickboxer in GLORY, to an MMA fighter. The Brazilian Pereira will be making her MMA debut against Helen Peralta at LFA 147 on November 10.

Aline Pereira has a 6-2 record in kickboxing. Her most recent bout was a loss in her bid for the title against reigning GLORY world champion Tiffany van Soest. She is still currently ranked in the top five in GLORY.

Alex Pereira held two world championships in GLORY Kickboxing before transitioning to MMA. The Brazilian knockout king ‘Poatan‘ has found tremendous success since changing sports. In kickboxing, he had earned 52% of his wins by way of knockout, but in MMA, he’s raised that number to an impressive 71% KO rate. Brazil’s ‘Poatan’ Alex Pereira will be fighting for the UFC middleweight crown against his historic adversary Israel Adesanya.

Aline Pereira will be hoping to find as much success in MMA as her brother has.

Alex & Aline Pereira both in MMA

Aline Pereira will bring her impressive kickboxing record to MMA as she looks to earn a knockout against the 5-3 ‘Iansa’ Peralta at LFA 147 on November 10. Normally, Aline fought at 130 pounds however this bout appears to be a showdown in the flyweight division.

Alex Pereira had two wins against ‘The Last Stylebender’ when they were both kickboxers. Adesanya changed his profession to MMA and has since earned a UFC world title. ‘Poatan’ has chased him down and risen to the top contender of the UFC’s middleweight division. Adesanya and Pereira will face off for the world title in the UFC 281 main event. Hosted in Madison Square Garden in New York on November 12, fans are eagerly awaiting their third fight.

Israel Adesanya interested in fight with Gregory Rodrigues; ‘I’d like to test myself against a guy like that’

Israel Adesanya

UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya is always looking for the next big fight. He sees that potential in DWCS alumni Gregory ‘Robocop’ Rodrigues.

On November 12th, Adesanya will step back into the Octagon to defend his UFC title against a familiar foe in kickboxing specialist Alex Pereira. The two middleweight warriors will meet for the third time, the first two coming under the GLORY Kickboxing banner. Losing the first two meetings, Adesanya will have something to prove against Pereira despite being one of the UFC’s most dominant reigning champions.

Should he get the last laugh against his Brazilian rival, Israel Adesanya will be looking for his next big fight. Appearing on Jake Paul’s YouTube channel, ‘Stylebender’ revealed his picks for potential post-UFC 281 matchups with one rather surprising name coming up.

“A good fighter actually I want to fight is the guy that – he kind of just fought not too long ago, ‘Robocop’ is his name,” Adesanya said on BS w/ Jake Paul. “He’s a Brazilian guy. He had that gash, you cannot forget that gash. He had that cut. That guy. He’s solid, he’s a good fight. No beef, no nothing. I just think he’s going to come up to the top and I’d like to test myself against a guy like that.”

Israel Adesanya Named Two More Potential Opponents Following UFC 281

Debuting for the UFC in 2021, Gregory Rodrigues has gone 4-1 inside the Octagon with three wins by way of knockout. His lone loss came against Armen Petrosyan in February, though it was a closely contested split decision. ‘Robocop’ has since earned back-to-back wins over Julian Marquez and Chidi Njokuani.

Currently, Rodrigues is not listed in the UFC’s top 15 ranking for the middleweight division so don’t expect to see Israel Adesanya mix it up with ‘Robocop’ anytime soon, but ‘Stylebender’ did have a couple more names that could share the spotlight with him in 2023. No. 7 ranked Sean Strickland was one of the names suggested by the champ. Known for his controversial take on pretty much everything, Strickland scored six straight victories before falling to Alex Pereira via first-round knockout at UFC 276.

Adesanya also spoke about a potential clash with undefeated welterweight Khamzat Chimaev. While the Chechen-born monster aims to capture welterweight gold, he has routinely teased a run in the middleweight division where Israel Adesanya reigns supreme. As of now, all signs point to a 170-pound clash between Chimaev and Colby Covington, but as well all know with the UFC, things can change in the blink of an eye.
