Henry Cejudo

Former two-weight UFC champion Henry Cejudo has taken yet another jab at bantamweight king Petr Yan and top contender Aljamain Sterling.

While Cejudo is retired from the sport, it is quite clear he is interested in a return to the UFC one day, hoping to capitalize on a big money fight with one of the champions.

“While I must admit, you’ve come a long way since being in B2K…after I knock you out you’ll have a Bump Bump Bump,” Cejudo wrote to Sterling.

“Guys, good luck in the ‘Battle of the Sidechicks’ ….Just keep my belt warm for me and don’t pawn it,” Cejudo added, targeting both men. “Merry Christmas.”

While we don’t quite know yet what the future holds for Cejudo, we don’t know Yan and Sterling will be linking up in the octagon in the very near future to finally fight for Yan’s Bantamweight title.

“Everything’s in force for the fight. It’s going to be postponed for about a month and a half, but everything’s in order,” Yan said on Instagram Live (translated by RT Sport). There were different problems, with the flight, with the visa, during training I flew away for a visa deadline, lots of factors. We decided with the team to move everything to next year, perhaps the card will be more suitable… Everything is good, training continues. In the past, I could fly out to battle without thinking about anything, I could take risks. Now I need to do everything right, so that afterwards there won’t be any, ‘this wasn’t right, that wasn’t right.’”

The Bantamweight division is certainly one of the most intriguing in all of MMA.

Do you think Henry Cejudo comes out of retirement to fight? Who would you like to see him fight?

UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan revealed what led to his title fight with Aljamain Sterling being postponed.

Yan was originally set to defend his title for the first time against Sterling in the UFC 256 headliner on December 12. However, it was recently reported that the fight was off and would take place at a later date. It wasn’t reported to be an injury for Yan either which led many to wonder what led to the postponement.

According to Yan, it was visa issues.

Speaking to fans on Instagram Live on Monday (via RT), the Siberian-Russian revealed multiple factors related to his visa led to the fight being off. However, things are looking good for the fight to take place early next year.

“Everything’s in force for the fight. It’s going to be postponed for about a month and a half, but everything’s in order,” Yan said. “There were different problems, with the flight, with the visa, during training I flew away for a visa deadline, lots of factors.

“We decided with the team to move everything to next year, perhaps the card will be more suitable. … Everything is good, training continues.”

While for previous fights, Yan may have gone ahead with taking risks with his preparation, this time is different.

“In the past, I could fly out to battle without thinking about anything, I could take risks,” Yan explained. “Now I need to do everything right, so that afterwards there won’t be any, ‘this wasn’t right, that wasn’t right.’”

Regardless of when the title fight is eventually rebooked, “No Mercy” remains confident of emerging on top.

“I see that I can beat him, it would be stupid not to believe in yourself,” he added. “The fight will happen.”

Yan became the bantamweight champion after winning the vacant title following a fifth-round TKO win over Jose Aldo at UFC 251 in July.

Aljamain Sterling

Top bantamweight contender Aljamain Sterling has spoken out for the first time since his fight with 135lb champion Petr Yan was pulled from the upcoming UFC 256 card.

Sterling has put together five straight wins, including a super quick submission victory over fellow contender Cory Sandhagen last time out to earn his shot at UFC gold on December 12.

Yesterday it was reported that Yan was unable to compete at UFC 256 and his fight with Sterling was set to be pushed back to UFC 258 which is set to take place in February.

“The UFC bantamweight title fight between Russian reigning champion Petr Yan and Jamaican-American challenger Aljamain Sterling scheduled for UFC 256 on December 12 has been postponed, according to sources.”

“Yan was due to make the first defense of the title he won by stopping Brazilian veteran Jose Aldo in the fifth round of their contest at UFC 251 on Fight Island in July, but as-yet unspecified reasons have caused the December showdown with Sterling to be postponed, sources in Russia have told RT Sport.

“Initial unconfirmed reports suggest that the issue is due to injury rather than other problems such as Yan obtaining a US visa.  There are early suggestions that should the fight not go ahead as planned this year, it will be moved to UFC 258 in February.”

Sterling has since taken to social media to wish the champion well and promise that they will settle the score in the near future.

“Everything happens for a reason,” Sterling wrote. “I hope everything is good with you and your family @PetrYanUFC We will settle our business when you can be 100% focused and ready to give the fans the best show we can. See you soon.

“I really don’t know what to do with myself right now… hmm,” Sterling added. “The possibilities are endless…”
