Germaine de Randamie would have no hesitation in signing the dotted line to face Amanda Nunes for the bantamweight title.

The former featherweight champion cemented her place as the next challenger for Nunes following a first-round knockout win over Aspen Ladd in their UFC Sacramento bantamweight headliner this past weekend.

Following the event, Chael Sonnen posted a video, pondering whether de Randamie would accept a fight with Nunes. The 35-year-old saw the video when she landed home in Holland and provided a straight-forward answer to “The Bad Guy”:

“When I landed in Holland, a couple of people sent me a video that Chael Sonnen did…he wanted to know if I’d accept a fight with Amanda—of course I would accept a fight with Amanda,” de Randamie told MMA Fighting’s Eurobash podcast. “Everyone knows, for me it would be an honor to be in the cage with such great champion. It would be honor to try to redeem [my loss to her].”

Nunes vs. de Randamie II Would Go Differently

Nunes and de Randamie fought back in 2013 which saw the former win via TKO after taking her foe to the ground and finishing her with elbows. However, de Randamie feels both fighters are different now and a potential rematch won’t go the same way:

“I remember [she took me down],” she explained. “That’s the fun thing; I’m not that fighter anymore and Amanda is not that fighter anymore too. I believe this is going to be a way different fight. I’m not that easy to takedown anymore, in that fight I was easy to take down, but now I’m not that easy to takedown. I know Amanda is a great champion and I know this would be a great matchup.”

Nunes, in particular, has made huge strides and is now the bantamweight and featherweight champion. But despite her nine-fight win streak, de Randamie feels anyone can be beaten:

“I got the utmost respect for her. I said it the other day, there is no doubt about it, she is a true champion and she is one of the best ever. But everyone is beatable, I keep saying that,” she added.

Do you think de Randamie has the skillset to defeat Nunes?

Everyone wants a crack at Amanda Nunes. The current UFC double champion comes off a successful first-round knockout title defense over Holly Holm at UFC 239.

“The Lioness” has looked unstoppable as of late, finishing nearly everyone who steps into the Octagon with her. The power in Nunes’ hands is unlike anything women’s mixed martial arts (MMA) has ever seen. The only woman who could rival her power, Cris Cyborg, Nunes finished in under a minute.

However, WBO, WBA, WBC, and IBF middleweight boxing champion Claressa Shields believes she can put Nunes away. Speaking to TMZ Sports, Shields said she believes she’d put the Brazilian to sleep:

“The greatest in MMA, but not the greatest fighter [Nunes is],” Shields said. “I’m the greatest of all time. I’ve always been. Amanda Nunes – she ain’t been to the Olympics two times. I’ve been on top of the world twice. I’m not putting myself against Amanda, because I like her, we’re both women athletes. I actually praise her like I did Cris [Cyborg]. She’s the GOAT in MMA, and I’m in boxing. And if we were to fight I’d win.”

Shields was then asked if she’d beat Nunes in MMA, to which she hilariously responded, “Hell nah, I can’t wrestle. But in boxing, yeah, Amanda Nunes would go to sleep.”

Nunes has virtually cleaned out the bantamweight division, and with featherweight so slim with contenders, perhaps a superfight between Nunes and Shields could come into play. No cross-sport fight has ever happened between MMA and boxing since Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor. Perhaps Nunes could be the first to change that.

What do you think about a potential clash between Shields and Nunes? Would Shields truly put Nunes to sleep?

Germaine de Randamie is set to headline UFC Sacramento when she takes on Aspen Ladd. There, many believe it is a number one contender fight, and should the Amanda Nunes vs Cris Cyborg rematch not materialize, then the winner would fight the Brazilian next.

Although the former featherweight champion made it clear her focus is only on Ladd for this fight, questions of a Nunes rematch kept coming up. And, finally, she gave her thoughts on it.

“Yes, absolutely (things would be different),” de Randamie said (h/t MMA Junkie). “I believe that’s the fight to make in a way. I’m very explosive, everybody knows that. I like to knock people out, Amanda likes to knock people out. She’s a wrecking machine, she is a true champion. I absolutely respect her, but I would love to face her again. It would be an honor for me to face her again. And even if it’s not a title fight, I would still love to meet her again in the Octagon.”

Amanda Nunes is no doubt the greatest women’s MMA fighter of all-time but de Randamie believes she is beatable and will be dethroned soon. And, the number one contender knows she has the skillset to do just that.

“I agree she’s one of the best fighters, but remember: Everyone is beatable, and as soon as a person comes and beats Amanda Nunes, they are the GOAT,” de Randamie said. “One thing is for sure, at this point right now in the last couple years, she has been the best UFC fighter. Without any doubt. She has proven it over and over again. But she is beatable. Everyone is beatable. So every time when somebody gets beat there’s a new GOAT, right? She’s the champion, she’s a true champion, and she’s an absolute world class. But she is beatable.”
