Deontay Wilder has some advice for newly-crowned unified heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr. following his shock victory over Anthony Joshua.

Ruiz Jr. beat Joshua in the featured bout of the event that took place on Saturday night (June 1, 2019) from Madison Square Garden in New York City. Joshua’s WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles were on the line.

In the fight, Ruiz Jr. won via technical knockout in the 7th round. This was a shocking loss for Joshua, as it marked the Englishman’s first loss in his career. It also changes the landscape of boxing’s heavyweight division. For years now, many fans have wanted to see Joshua fight Wilder inside of the ring.

That fight has been delayed due to negotiation differences, while the fighters kept busy with lesser contenders. Wilder faced Dominic Breazeale in his latest fight back in early May. He knocked out Breazeale in the first round to retain the WBC heavyweight title.

Wilder recently took to his official Twitter account to offer some advice to Ruiz Jr. following his big win. He wrote:

“A huge congratulations to you Andy Ruiz Jr. for your upset win last night. You’ve been blessed to come out of the struggle and to become the 1st Mexican Heavyweight Champion Ever! Wow, that’s amazing and I’m wishing you many more blessings to come.”

“P.S It’s all up to you in what you do with this huge opportunity. There’s many perks that comes behind it. Blessings.”

This past weekend saw one of the biggest upsets in boxing history when Andy Ruiz Jr. defeated Anthony Joshua in the seventh round. But oddsmakers don’t see a repeat of it happening.

Ruiz shocked the world when he not only defeated Joshua to become the new unified heavyweight champion, but did so by knocking him down four times on Saturday night.

Heading into the fight, “The Destroyer” was in the range of a +1000 and +2000 underdog. And while the odds in a rematch are not as wide as before, Joshua still remains the favorite.

BetOnline has “AJ” as the -350 favorite in a rematch while Ruiz is a +275 underdog. That means one would have to bet $350 to win $100 on Joshua or one would win $275 if they bet $100 on Ruiz.

“Considering Ruiz was a 14/1 underdog this past weekend, it would be hard to justify him being another huge underdog,” Dave Mason, the sports book brand manager for BetOnline, told Forbes in an email. “However, we expect the smart money to come in on Joshua closer to the fight while the public will probably back Ruiz again.”

In a nutshell, oddsmakers still see Joshua winning the rematch. It is possible that he underestimated his opponent and comes back even better as most elite boxers do after their first professional loss. The rematch likely to take place on home soil in the United Kingdom will also help.

But what if Ruiz is just that good? After all, it was not just a lucky knockout punch that got him the win, but constant pressure that resulted in four knockdowns. We’ll be finding out by the end of this year with the rematch slated for November or December.

Joshua took on Andy Ruiz Jr. in the main event of the show that took place on Saturday night (June 1, 2019) at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Joshua’s WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles were on the line.

The event aired exclusively live on DAZN in the United States and on Sky Sports Box Office in the United Kingdom. Ruiz wasn’t even Joshua’s original opponent, as he was supposed to fight undefeated challenger Jarrell Miller, but was then replaced by Ruiz Jr. after three failed drug tests.

In the fight, Ruiz Jr. won the bout by technical knockout in the 7th round. As a result, it marked Joshua’s first loss in his career, which, coincidentally, was his first fight to take place in the United States.

Longtime UFC commentator Joe Rogan took to his official Instagram account to give his reaction to the devastating loss, writing the following:

“Nights like this are one of the many reasons why I love fights. Weird shit happens when people punch each other in the head. Most of the time when people ask me “who is going to win?” I say, “I don’t know. That’s why we have to see them fight.”

I say that because I’m being honest. There are windows in time where you’re convinced you know the outcome. Where a king has lain waste to all who challenge his dominance, and you’re SURE he’s going to win a fight.

Then, someone like @andy_destroyer13 comes along and flips the whole thing right on its fucking head and shocks the world. I LOVE s**t like that. Congrats to @andy_destroyer13 on an amazing victory.”
