Likely set to snatch the number twelve rank from opponent Casey O’Neill in the new rankings update next week, Brazilian contender, Ariane Lipski turned in a stunning victory tonight on the late preliminary card of UFC 296 — submitting the highly-touted contender with a second round armbar in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Lipski, a former KSW flyweight champion, turned in her third consecutive victory with tonight’s win over touted challenger, O’Neill — following back-to-back submission wins over both JJ Aldrich, and Melissa Gatto.
Dominating the opening round of her 125 pound clash with O’Neill, in the second round, Curitiba native, Lipski landed just her second armbar win over the course of her professional career, taking the former down, and eventually scooting for an armbar attempt.
Bellying down during the scramble, Lipski forced an eventual tap, compiling the misery on O’Neill — who has now lost two on the bounce, following a prior decision loss to Lipski’s compatriot, former title challenger, Jennifer Maia.

Lipski’s outing with Cachoeira was set to kick off the main card of the night at UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, it will no longer go through per new reports coming from Combate.
UFC Vegas 59 loses main card bout on fight day
Taking to Twitter, the Brazilian outlet shared the update with a full report online. Not all is lost as the bout has not been canceled for UFC Vegas 59. Instead, Lipski will compete against Cachoeira on next Saturday’s card at UFC San Diego.
Previously, the welterweight bout between Jason Witt and debutant Josh Quinlan also got scrapped from tonight’s event and postponed to Aug. 13.
Fight-day cancellations aren’t a new thing in MMA. As heartbreaking as it is to see our favorite fights fall off the card, it’s something the fans have gotten used to. One of the most notable last-minute cancelations this year was of Donald Cerrone’s outing with Joe Lauzon, initially targeted for UFC Austin. For the first time in his career, Cerrone withdrew from a bout, citing food poisoning as the source.
Main Card still looks promising
With the removal of the women’s flyweight bout, it’s unclear if and which prelim fight might get bumped up to a spot on the main card. Former title challenger Thiago Santos will headline UFC on ESPN 40 in a light heavyweight competition against the Dana White Contender Series standout Jamahal Hill.
A top-ten ranked contender at welterweight, Vicente Luque, will take to the octagon against Geoff Neal, another top-15 contender in the co-main event of the night. The fight will give Neal a chance to go higher in the ranks. For Luque, it’s his opportunity to claw back into the mix of title contention after suffering defeat to Belal Muhammad in his last showing.
Reigning pound-for-pound king Kamaru Usman‘s brother, Mohammed Usman, will make his highly-awaited UFC debut against Zac Pauga. UFC Vegas 59 prelims are scheduled to kick off at 7:30 pm ET with the main card starting at 10 pm ET.

‘The Queen of Violence’ is looking to build off a decision victory over Mandy Böhm, and mount a title challenge in the competitive flyweight division. Lipski recently spoke with LowKickMMA in an exclusive interview about the upcoming fight with Cachoeira, stating that:
“Priscila Cachoeira is a striker. I am a striker also. So I’m excited about it. She’s a tough opponent because she don’t be afraid to get punched. She likes pushing hard… I do believe that I fight with my heart also. I’m a tough opponent, tougher. And I think that the key for the win is my technique. I’m more technical than her. Also, I do believe that I’m a more well-rounded fighter. I have some submissions. So that’s it, I think that technique is key.”
Ariane Lipski Addresses Concerns That Priscila Cachoeira Will Deploy ‘Dirty Tactics’
Priscila Cachoeira is an experienced veteran in the women’s flyweight division, having fought some of the very best, including Valentina Shevchenko. However, over the course of her career, Cachoeira has been involved in multiple circumstances where she have been accused of unsportsmanlike conduct.
In her fight with Gillian Roberston, Cachoeira can be seen attempting to eye gouge her opponent after having her back taken. There have also been cases of Cachoeira faking a glove touch to land an early strike.
However, Ariane Lipski is prepared to deal with this kind of approach, should Cachoeira attempt anything untoward. In reference to the Robertson fight, Lipski stated:
“She was losing the fight. I think she was frustrated. I have to be aware for those things, not only against her but against all of my opponents. We have to be aware of this. I don’t break the rules but if she gonna fight like this, I’m ready. So it’s a fight. I’m not going to play, I’m going to fight and win. So if she’s going to do dirty things, she has to be ready. But in her last fight, she didn’t (do) these things, she was respectful… I think she won’t do the same, but if she try, I’m ready.”

UFC flyweight contender, Montana De La Rosa is back in the winner’s enclosure, following an impressive eventual second round stoppage win over former KSW flyweight champion, Ariane Lipski to open the main card of UFC Vegas 28 at the UFC Apex facility.
Utilising her grappling and clear wrestling advantage in the opening round to force Brazilian contender, Lipski to her back on occasion, De La Rosa sliced with a massive elbow from guard, resulting in some notable claret spilt on the Octagon canvas.
Composing herself following a quick start from Lipski in the second round, De La Rosa circled away following a good counter right hand, to secure a double-leg takedown.
Moving her way to the fence and slicing Lipski with another elbow, this time above her right eye, De La Rosa forced the issue with a series of elbows and hammer fists, forcing referee, Keith Peterson to call a halt to proceedings. With the victory, the 26-year-old Helena native grabs her fifth Octagon success.
