“I have re-signed. I’ve got a new deal, a multi-fight, multi-year deal that also allows me to pro wrestle,” Bhullar revealed. “It’s a one of a kind deal, we haven’t seen in MMA. I know we’ve seen people like Ronda [Rousey] and Cain [Velasquez] get busy but that was after [fighting was done]. We’ve come to terms with ONE, absolutely.”

Bhullar had been allegedly at odds with the top executives at ONE over his contract after he won the heavyweight title over Brandon Vera last April. The promotion ended up booking an interim heavyweight title during the tense back-and-forths, with Anatoly Malykhin earning the interim belt.

Bhullar was supposed to face Vera in May 2020, before the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Before that, he had won three straight during stints in the UFC and ONE, including his ONE debut over Mauro Cerilli.

After a win in the UFC over Juan Adams, Bhullar signed with ONE despite wins in three of his four Octagon appearances.

A matchup with Malykhin seems to be the next logical move for Bhullar and ONE, but Malykhin is stuck in Russia due to the ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Bhullar has also expressed interest in joining professional wrestling promotions such as WWE and AEW while he competes in ONE.

An announcement regarding Bhullar’s next fight in ONE could come soon.

Arjan Bhullar

ONE Championship’s heavyweight titleholder, Arjan Bhullar is the open to the idea of moving down in weight for a fight with the current light-heavyweight and middleweight champion, Reinier De Ridder.

De Ridder recently expressed his desire to move up to heavyweight and dethrone Bhullar to become a three-weight world champion.

The first fighter of Indian descent to ever win an MMA world title has since responded to the notion of a fight with De Ridder during an interview with LowKickMMA’s Keelin McNamara.

“First of all, I call the shots on that on the side. He knows that the company knows that.” Bhullar said.  “So, you know, he’s been mentioning my name to try to get some of that shine for sure and I don’t like giving it to people cause I never did that on my way up, so earn your way. Don’t start to mention my name in interviews and all that. You’re not gonna get a crack at me that way. I call the shots and maybe we do it at light heavyweight. Why would I give him a chance to come up?

“I’m the A-side. If that’s (a move to light-heavyweight) what we decide to do, we will do that. If we decide to do heavyweight, we will do that. It’s whatever we want, but getting another belt at a different weight to something that interests me. That intrigues me. It builds on my legacy, rather than just defending my belt.”

Despite being open to the fight Bhullar thinks De Ridder needs to make some title defences before it can actually happen.

“He’s got to defend. That’s the main thing .” Bhullar said. “Again, you want to be special? You want to stand out for me?  Make a name for yourself, defend your titles and get some momentum and we’ll make it work.”

Former UFC heavyweight Arjan Bhullar has signed with Asian promotion ONE Championship.

The news was reported by MMA Junkie and comes after Bhullar revealed Wednesday that he had signed a new promotional contract. The 33-year-old added that there were multiple offers on the table but only one clear winner.

The news has not been made official yet by ONE Championship as of now, but should be announced soon. According to MMA Junkie, Bellator were also one of the interested parties.

As a result, Bhullar becomes the latest ONE acquisition from the UFC following the signings of Demetrious Johnson, Eddie Alvarez and Sage Northcutt. The first UFC fighter of South Indian origin and Sikh faith, Bhullar compiled a 3-1 record inside the Octagon. His most recent outing was a unanimous decision win over Juan Adams in May, which was the last fight on his contract.

Given his Indian heritage, ONE Championship could use Bhullar to break into the Indian market and potentially even have a first show in India. More than anything, however, Bhullar’s arrival gives a new injection of life into ONE’s heavyweight division.

Former UFC heavyweight Brandon Vera is the current champion, but has only defended the belt twice since winning it in 2015.
