Aspen Ladd lost her first professional fight in the main event of UFC Sacramento back in July. There, she was TKO’d by Germaine de Randamie in just 16-seconds, where ‘GDR’ connected on a punch that dropped Ladd on her face and Herb Dean stopped the fight.

Immediately, the stoppage was controversial as some thought it was fine, while others thought it was an early stoppage. Even Aspen Ladd after the fight had this to say:

“I lost the fight. Germaine’s a great competitor,” Ladd said after the event. “I was still aware so I wish he hadn’t stopped the fight but there’s nothing I can do about it now.”

Yet, the 24-year-old was not happy with the result and appealed the loss to try and overturn it to a no-contest. On Tuesday, she was in front of the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) where her team argued that Herb Dean stopped the fight because she was female. Which, the ref denied.

After much discussion, the commission took to a vote where the final vote was 3-2 on not overturning the loss. Meaning, she was just one vote away from having it overturned to a no-contest.

Following her appeal being denied, Aspen Ladd released a statement to MMA Fighting on the result.

“I respect the commission’s vote today, we lost 3-2, life rolls on and I’m looking forward to my next scrap,” Ladd said.

Aspen Ladd will return to the Octagon on Dec. 7 against Yana Kunitskaya.

Are you surprised Aspen Ladd’s appeal was denied?

Aspen Ladd was unsuccessful in appealing her TKO defeat to Germaine de Randamie.

The two bantamweights headlined UFC Sacramento in July with the contest lasting just 16 seconds as De Randamie dropped Ladd after connecting with a flush punch. Herb Dean would step in and call an end to the bout with some believing it was an early stoppage.

Ladd — who suffered her first professional defeat in the process — would appeal the result, hoping to get it overturned to a no contest. Ladd and her manager Dave Hirschbein filed an appeal with the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) and a meeting was held on Tuesday.

Their argument was Dean would not have stopped the fight after one punch if it was a male fighter in that same scenario. The experienced referee would deny that he was discriminating:

In the end, the CSAC voted 3-2 to uphold the result.

“I respect the commission’s vote today, we lost 3-2, life rolls on and I’m looking forward to my next scrap,” Ladd said in a statement to MMA Fighting.

Ladd will look to bounce back against Yana Kunitskaya when they meet at UFC DC in December. De Randamie, meanwhile, will challenge for the bantamweight title when she meets Amanda Nunes in a rematch at UFC 245 that same month.

Did you think Ladd was right to complain of an early stoppage?

When Aspen Ladd weighed in at UFC Sacramento before her main event fight against Germaine de Randamie, she did not look good. She was shaking on the scale and could barely stand up.

Yet, the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) said she was good to compete the following night. In the fight, she was knocked out by the first punch and many thought it had something to do with the weigh-in as she ended up weighing in at 159-pounds on fight night.

Now, the CSAC has suspended Ladd’s bantamweight license, and the hope for Andy Foster is that other commissions will respect it.

“CSAC will remove the note if (Ladd) provides extensive medical documentation from a licensed physician certifying the weight class is appropriate and verified by CSAC physicians,” Foster said to MMA Junkie.

Of course, Ladd was recently booked to take on Yana Kunitskaya in Washington D.C. in December. Yet, she will have to show she can make bantamweight safely before the suspension gets taken off.

Currently, she has said she will work with the UFC PI on a diet and weight cutting plan.

Do you think Aspen Ladd should have to move up in weight?
