Aspen Ladd’s fight against Sara McCann tomorrow has been cancelled, due to her inability to make weight once again.

The matchup was in the women’s bantamweight division, which has a weight limit of 135 pounds. Ladd unfortunately came in two pounds heavier than the allowed weight. Due to her inability to make weight, the bout at the Apex has been cancelled.

Ladd was supposed to take on McCann earlier last month, so the UFC went along and pushed it off for a Fight Night this month instead. Ladd has had a well documented history of having a hard time making weight. Most notably she was almost to the point where she couldn’t stand on her own two feet without some sort of help from her trainers in the lead to the weigh in against Germaine de Randamie. She ended up losing that fight very quickly, as she was TKO’d.

Aspen Ladd’s most recent weight issue came last year

Ladd didn’t make weight in October of 2021, against Macy Chiasson. That fight was unfortunately canned, as the UFC wasn’t willing to let her fight over the weight limit. After missing weight for the second time and not being able to fight, she went up in weight, but ultimately lost her first bout to Norma Dumont.

This fight will be the third bout that Ladd will be dropping out of due to her missing weight the day before the card. The UFC will most likely not take too kindly to another, as this may have been the last straw for Ladd unfortunately. Ladd is a promising young fighter with a record of (9-), while being (4-3) in the UFC. Ladd is still only 27, and a permanent move up to the women’s featherweight division could be the best for her.

What do you make of Ladd missing another fight due to her struggle to make weight?

A UFC bantamweight showdown between former title challenger Sara McMann and rising contender Aspen Ladd is set for an August 13th UFC Fight Night.

News of the McMann vs. Ladd booking was first reported by All Access MMA.

McMann is coming off of a unanimous decision win over Karol Rosa back in March. She had returned to the Octagon following a 14-month hiatus since her loss to Julianna Peña at UFC 257.

McMann challenged for the bantamweight title back at UFC 170 against then-champion Ronda Rousey. She went on to lose via first-round TKO but rebounded with wins over Lauren Murphy and Jessica Eye.

McMann, a wrestling standout, will face a tough challenge in the form of Ladd. Despite coming off back-to-back losses to Raquel Pennington and Norma Dumont, she remains one of the top prospects in the bantamweight division.

McMann and Ladd were supposed to fight in June 2020 before Ladd suffered a torn ACL and MCL. McMann was removed from the card and fought against Peña seven months later.

McMann and Ladd are both looking to get back into the bantamweight title discussion with a win. Peña will defend her title against Amanda Nunes in a title rematch later this year.

The McMann/Ladd matchup adds to an Aug. 13 Fight Night that is still without a main event. A venue and location for the card are expected to be announced soon.

Sean Strickland has disparaged the nature of Aspen Ladd’s relationship with her head coach Jim West, as well as Rose Namajunas’ relationship with her coach Pat Barry.

Not one to be known for his diplomacy, Strickland has built a reputation for himself as a no holds barred barbarian. From porn stars, road rage, and streetfighting challenges, to homophobia, the top ranked middleweight has shared his thoughts on each topic including the personal relationships of fellow fighters, Aspen Ladd and Rose Namajunas.

UFC women’s bantamweight Ladd faced heat from certain fans for her relationship with coach Jim West after he lambasted Ladd between rounds in an unsuccessful effort against Norma Dumont last year at UFC Vegas 40. Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate spoke out against what she believed to be “abusive” treatment towards Ladd, who later defended her coach and dismissed Tate’s comments as attention-seeking.

While there have been no further developments regarding Ladd’s relationship with West since he apologized for his behavior, Strickland revisited the topic with his opinion surrounding the controversy.

“Sooooooooooo I’m pretty sure @TheAspenLadd is suffering from Stockholm syndrome…….. lmao!!!!!!!!I didn’t really care about the corner
video but when you add some other facts to the situation it’s a little fucking creepy lmao!!!”

He posted a follow-up tweet after the initial post to give more insight into his opinion.

“Women are very easy targets for male coaches, automatically assume weird father role which turns into a hero worship complex. The fact you started to train with him at what 12? 100 percent grooming sexual predator. Tell me my facts are wrong and I’ll apologize now. @TheAspenLadd

Sean Strickland weighs in on Namajunas’ relationship with her coach

After taking shots at Aspen Ladd and her relationship with her head coach Jim West, Strickland dragged in the relationship of current UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion Rose Namajunas with coach Pat Barry. Namajunas has endeared herself with the fans through an inspiring journey in the octagon that saw her become a two-time champion.

While Rose’s main MMA coach is the highly renowned Trevor Wittman, it’s her relationship with longtime partner Pat Barry that draws the wrong kind of attention given the 13-year age gap between her and the former UFC fighter and kickboxer Barry. She was 14 years old when she reportedly met Barry, who was 27 years old at the time.

“Is Jim West and Pat Berry (sic) the Weinstine of MMA? Or is Michael Jackson a better comparison…@netflix is currently contacting @TheAspenLadd and @rosenamajunas for a TV series lol!!!!! OK, I’m done gotta spar..”

Strickland ended the series of tweets with an indication to go and practice for his upcoming bout against Alex Pereira at UFC 277. Pereira holds two wins over the current middleweight champion Israel Adesanya in kickboxing and remains the only man to knock out ‘Stylebender’. With the history between the two, Strickland expects to get a title shot if he beats Pereira at the end of July in what many consider to be a top contender contest.

What are your thoughts on Sean Strickland’s comments regarding the relationships of Rose Namajunas and Aspen Ladd with their coaches?

Sean Strickland has taken more shots at the coaches/significant others of Rose Namajunas and Aspen Ladd.

UFC women’s bantamweight Aspen Ladd’s relationship with her coach Jim West went under public scrutiny last year when West chewed out Ladd between rounds of her loss to Norma Dumont last year at UFC Vegas 40. His tone was considered so harsh that many people spoke out against West’s treatment of Ladd, including Miesha Tate.

Tate said that she was speaking from her own personal experience of what it can be like in a relationship with a coach/trainer and that she can recognize the signs of abuse. Ladd dismissed Tate’s comments as attention-seeking and later said that she’d be willing to fight Tate for free.

There have been no further stories regarding Ladd’s & West’s relationship since West apologized for his conduct in Ladd’s corner last October. Nevertheless, Strickland was inspired to send out the following tweet Thursday.

“Sooooooooooo I’m pretty sure @TheAspenLadd is suffering from Stockholm syndrome…….. lmao!!!!!!!!I didn’t really care about the corner
video but when you add some other facts to the situation it’s a little fucking creepy lmao!!!”

Strickland would then post a follow-up tweet to lend more insight into the information that prompted his initial tweet.

“Women are very easy targets for male coaches, automatically assume weird father role which turns into a hero worship complex. The fact you started to train with him at what 12? 100 percent grooming sexual predator. Tell me my facts are wrong and I’ll apologize now. @TheAspenLadd

Strickland would close by also referencing Rose Namajunas’ relationship with Barry. The couple has a 13-year age gap between them and reportedly met when Namajunas was 14 years old and Barry was 27.

“Is Jim West and Pat Berry (sic) the Weinstine of MMA? Or is Michael Jackson a better comparison…@netflix is currently contacting @TheAspenLadd and @rosenamajunas for a TV series lol!!!!! OK, I’m done gotta spar..” Strickland concluded.

Update: Sean Strickland Doubles Down On “Predator” Criticisms

Strickland has not let up on his criticisms of Barry and West. This week, he made Barry the primary focus of his vitriol.

“This showed up on my Twitter feed… Looks like they met on Jeffery Epsteins island…. Bro you been on the Lolita express?!? @HypeOrDie

“OK I’m done making fun of Pat the PREDATOR Barry. Rose followed me on IG once so naturally I slid in her DM’s. I didn’t know she had a umm what would you call him?? A groomer? Idk either way I won’t touch this again, hopefully Pat will do the same when he’s around children..”

Strickland would then make it clear that he has not forgotten about Jim West.

“Age really is just a number. @gloverteixeira didn’t let the doubters put him down when he won the belt at 42. “Too old” “washed up” And don’t forget JIM WEST and Aspan “Jim she’s 14” “Jim you’re going to go to prison” “Jim you can’t groom a child” Way to beat the odds Jim.”

Ladd is coming off a second consecutive loss, this time to Raquel Pennington who defeated Ladd at UFC 273 via unanimous decision. This made for the third defeat in four fights for the 27-year-old.

Rose Namajunas will be competing at this weekend’s UFC 274 when she puts her strawweight title on the line against Carla Esparza. Neither Namajunas, Ladd, nor their coaches/partners have directly addressed Strickland’s remarks.

In Namajunas’ case, she may very well be unaware of Strickland’s comments seeing as how she goes out of her way to stay off of social media whenever possible. This week, in particular, it could serve as an unneeded distraction for her.

As for Strickland, he has enough to worry about with his professional life, as he will be taking on rising hype train Alex Pereira this July at UFC 277 in a bout that many believe could serve as a middleweight title eliminator.

What do you make of Sean Strickland’s remarks about the relationships of Aspen Ladd and Rose Namajunas?

Aspen Ladd still has beef with Miesha Tate and would be willing to settle it for free.

The feud began after Ladd’s coach and boyfriend Jim West yelled at her during her last fight, a unanimous decision defeat against Norma Dumont. West was trying to fire his fighter up ahead of must-win championship rounds but Tate thought she saw something else at that moment and claimed Ladd was in an abusive relationship.

A fight between Ladd and Tate seemed to be on the card after that but has not happened and seemingly won’t in the near future.

The former UFC bantamweight champion has moved down to flyweight and is booked to face Lauren Murphy.

Ladd on the other hand is preparing for a fight with 135lb contender Irene Aldana.

Ahead of her next fight, Aspen Ladd took time out to chat with James Lynch of LowKickMMA and she couldn’t help taking a few shots at Tate during the interview.

“That’s the Karen of MMA,” Ladd said about Tate. “I just wanted to hit her. I still want to hit her. But that’s not going to be in my future right now. I have a different fight. They wouldn’t have to pay me, honestly, it’d just be a fun one.

“The sport has kind of passed her by,” Ladd replied when asked about Tate’s drop to 125lbs. “She was a dominant wrestler and that’s what got her to where she is. Then she came back for money. She is talking a big talk but she’s not going to make another title run and at 35 she wasn’t doing well and was like, ‘Ah, I’m going to drop weight and see.’ But, that’s a tough weight class too, I don’t know.

Do you think we’ll ever get to see Aspen Ladd vs. Miesha Tate?

UFC is currently looking to pair up Irene Aldana and Aspen Ladd for their April 9th event, per reports.

The fight isn’t finalized but is currently in the process of being made, per a report from Carlos Contreras Legaspi of ESPN Deportes. Should the fight be made official, it would join UFC 273.

The matchup places two of the higher-ranked bantamweights up against each other. Aldana currently sits third in the division’s official rankings, with Ladd just trailing behind in fourth place.

A win for either fighter would put them a step closer to being in the title conversation, one that has recently changed amid the crowning of new champion Julianna Peña.

Ladd Set For Bantamweight Return

The potential booking could mark Ladd’s return to bantamweight—a division she has not competed in since late 2019.

Ladd’s last fight was a short-notice appearance at featherweight, where she lost a decision to Norma Dumont. She was pulled from a fight earlier in October, as she fell ill while attempting to cut down to the bantamweight limit.

Ladd’s fight in the fall put an end to an unlucky two-year period where she was pulled from four different fights. One of the bouts was thrown out due to her opponent being injured. Another was canceled in 2020 after she tore her ACL and MCL.

Aldana is currently riding the momentum of a finish victory she scored against Yana Kunitskaya in July. That fight put her back into the win column.

Her previous fight was in October 2020, where she lost a five-round decision to the now #2-ranked Holly Holm. Aldana has spent her entire UFC run at bantamweight, attaining six wins and four losses in that time.

Who do you see winning this matchup? And where do you think a win would put either fighter in the title picture?
