It may have been a weekend devoid of big time MMA, but there was still plenty of fight action of all stripes on the airwaves this past Friday and Saturday. Between an eight-man tournament, a promise to finish in exciting fashion, and some outrageous color commentary, we have no shortage of things to talk about on Monday morning.

What do you say we comb through the wreckage and see who the big winners and losers are after this eventful weekend in MMA?

Biggest Winner: Drew Fickett
Winning the Shine Fights lightweight grand prix may not be the triumph of a lifetime for most fighters, but after the hard times Fickett has fallen on/brought upon himself, it’s at least a break in the clouds. He beat three professional fighters in one night, all by first-round submission. Even if one of them was the eminently submittable Charles Bennett, it’s still impressive. Then again, the issue with Fickett has never been a lack of talent. Hopefully he’s had enough self-destruction by now and can use his big night as a springboard to something greater. Might be time to send a tape of his tournament win to Strikeforce, along with an assurance that he’s not under contract anywhere else this time.

Assemblyman Bob Reilly is the man leading the charge against legalizing mixed martial arts in the state of New York, and tomorrow night on "Inside MMA," the sport’s most vocal critic explains his opposition in Part One of an exclusive two-part interview.

"What attracts people to Ultimate Fighting unfortunately is the violence and violence is not good for our society," Reilly says. "The difference between mixed martial arts and every other sport is that in mixed martial arts the purpose is to damage your opponent."

On tomorrow night’s episode Kenny Rice and Bas Rutten are joined on the panel this week by Randy and Ryan Couture and Bellator middleweight champion Hector Lombard, all who strongly disagree with Reilly’s statements.

Bas Rutten Offers Jens Pulver Good Advice for the Wrong Problem

It seems pointless to write another career eulogy for former UFC lightweight champ Jens Pulver, who suffered his sixth straight loss on last night’s War on the Mainland event. He’s clearly not interested in taking the hint, and we’re running out of positive things to say as he continues his quest for diminishing paychecks.

It took just a little over a minute for relative MMA novice Diego Garijo to drop Pulver with a straight left and then lock in an arm-in guillotine choke for the submission finish last night. According to MMA legend Bas Rutten, who helped out with color commentating duties for last night’s event, this loss was a sign that Pulver needed to dedicate himself to improving his ground game.

“Jens Pulver, if he wants to continue his career, I say, move. Move to Brazil for six months, and the only thing you’re doing is ground fighting.”
