Former UFC, Pride, and Strikeforce fighter Gegard Mousasi won the Bellator middleweight belt after destroying Rafael Carvalho in the first round of their headlining fight at Bellator 200 from The SSE Arena in London on Friday.

Mousasi got the champion down quickly into the first round, and although Carvalho found his way to his feet, he was promptly taken down again and eventually mounted by the challenger. Mousasi poured on the ground-and-pound as the champion gave Mousasi his back, and after a few seconds, it became apparent that the fight was over.

Now the first fighter to hold titles in both Strikeforce and Bellator, Mousasi called out fellow Bellator champion Rory MacDonald in his post-fight speech. It’s an awesome fight that would certainly bring a ton of eyeballs to Bellator.

Gegard Mousasi vs. Rafael Carvalho is in the books at Bellator 200.

Although this bout was not the original main event, it turned into an exciting fight that was headliner worthy.

Bellator 200 took place on Friday, May 25, 2018, at the SSE Arena, Wembley in London, England and due to time zone differences, was taped earlier in the day but aired live on the Paramount Network tonight.

Mousasi was able to defeat Carvalho to win the middleweight title when he was able to score a TKO victory in just 3:25 of the very first round. As a result, this fight capped off a night that featured some action-packed fights that entertained those fans who decided to attend the show.

Mousasi’s contract with the UFC ran out after his controversial UFC 208 win over Chris Weidman. This is when he decided to test out the free agent market and signed with the Viacom-owned promotion.

A fun fact about his career is that Mousasi was Bellator MMA President Scott Coker’s light heavyweight champion for a while under the Strikeforce banner.

Mousasi is currently riding an impressive six fight win streak with victories of the likes of Weidman, Vitor Belfort, Uriah Hall, and Thiago Santos in the UFC as well as winning his promotional debut with Bellator by picking up a win over Alexander Shlemenko by decision at Bellator 185.

On the flip side, Carvalho’s winning streak and reign as the top guy in Bellator’s middleweight division has come to a close as a result of this loss.

He entered this fight on a fourteen fight win streak with recent wins over the likes of Melvin Manhoef twice and Alessio Sakara. He won the title from Brandon Halsey back in October of 2015.

Highlights: MVP Forces Verbal Submission From David Rickels

Watch Michael Venom Page make David Rickels verbally submit:

The biggest knock on Bellator welterweight prospect Michael “Venom” Page has been the level of competition he’s faced thus far, but MVP made a huge leap forward on Friday after dispatching David “The Caveman” Rickels in the second round of today’s (May 25, 2018) Bellator 200 from the SSE Arena in London, England.

MVP dominated the first round, nearly landing a spinning head kick towards the end of the first, which Rickels deflected and taunted the notorious show-boater for missing the kick.

Rickels is by far the biggest win in MVP’s career, and “Venom” destroyed “The Caveman” to the point where Rickels verbally submitted early into round two after taking a big punch that hurt his eye, rendering him unable to see:

When asked who he wants next by commentator and former MMA referee “Big John” McCarthy, MVP was nonchalant and stated that he wants to fight “everyone”. Fights with fellow British striker Paul Daley and current Bellator welterweight champion Rory MacDonald have been simmering for quite some time now, so MVP has some interesting options as far as future Bellator opponents go.

Who would you like to see MVP fight next?

Bellator 200 took place on Friday, May 25, 2018, at the SSE Arena, Wembley in London, England and due to time zone differences, was taped earlier in the day but aired live on the Paramount Network tonight.

MVP ended up having an entertaining fight with hard-hitting Bellator veteran as he was able to score a verbal submission victory over Rickels in just 43 seconds into the second round of their fight that was scheduled for three rounds.

The highly touted prospect continues to extend his winning streak. As a result of this win, the exciting fighter has won nine fights under the Bellator MMA banner and moved his pro-MMA record to 13-0.

Leading up to this fight, there has been a lot of talk and speculation about how the promotion needs to make a fight that not only the fight fans want to see but both fighters have been making known in the press.

That fight is MVP taking fellow welterweight star Paul Daley, who was cage side at the historic event alongside the likes of former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor, rapper 50 Cent and other celebrities.

On the flip side, as a result of this loss, Rickels falls to a pro-MMA record of 19-5-2 and snaps his two fight winning streak over the likes of Aaron Derrow and Adam Piccolotti.
