On Tuesday, Belaltor Fighting Championships announced that it had reached a three year tv deal with MTV2 to broadcast their events live across their network. Shows are scheduled to begin in March of 2011 and marks a new age for the promotion as they’ll have better access to their target market through MTV2 instead of their previous provide Fox Sports Network.
CEO Bjorn Rebney has been busy speaking to several of the media outlets providing more details on the deal.
Here are some of the highlights from an interview with BloodyElbow.com.
– This is a totally exclusive domestic relationship. The only place you will be able to see Bellator will be on MTV2.
– I can’t speak to that yet…it is a spectacular timeslot. A timeslot that is optimal for our brand.
– (MTV2) reach a higher concentration of the MMA market than ESPN, than TNT, than USA, than Fox Network, than ABC. They reach the core demographic that follows mixed martial arts better than anyone.
– Our programming format, our two hour shows, will remain as it was…We aren’t changing the way Bellator programs or the way the tournament works.
– As part of the 2011 schedule we’ll do two full tournaments. We’ll do 12 events per tournament, per season.
– So coming up in the March, April, May season you’ll see four tournaments running simultaneously and coming up in season number five you’ll see four tournaments running simultaneously.

Good news for Bellator Fighting Championship fans as the promotion is expected to announce a new television deal that will see events aired live on the FX network.
Bellator Fighting Championships officials are expected to announce a multi-year broadcast deal with FOX Entertainment Group, sources today confirmed with MMAjunkie.com.
As part of the deal, future Bellator events are expected to air live on the FX cable station with tape-delayed broadcasts on sister stations FOX Sports Net and Fuel TV.
Bellator aired its first first season on the Spanish-language ESPN Deportes and its two most recent seasons on FSN.
There had been some speculation over the recent months that Bellator was in a bit of trouble as a mixed martial arts promotion but this deal would certainly secure them as a promotion by reaching into millions of home each week on cable television.
The promotion is likely to keep its regular Thursday schedule with the live events being broadcast on FX, while highlights will air on FSN and Fuel.
This is definitely a step forward for Bellator as they’ve had to conform previous events around timeslots, had shows pre-empted, and broadcast by tape delay. This will allow them to keep the interest of fans, as well as attract new ones, by keeping the events live in viewers homes in a world where the results are only a click away.
