CHICAGO, Ill. (October 25, 2010) – Bellator Fighting Championships today announced the Local Feature Fights for Bellator 34 taking place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL on October 28th. Headlining the local main event is hard-hitting Miami native John Kelly (4-1) facing off against well rounded William Kuhn (5-4) in welterweight action.

In the local co-main event of the evening, two Florida-based bantamweights square off when Miami’s own Tulio Quintanila (4-1) returns to the Bellator cage for the first time since scoring a devastating third round knockout of Brian Eckstein in August, meets Orlando’s Ralph Acosta (2-3) in a fight that should have fans on their feet.

The action continues as two undefeated fighters meet when John Queiroz (3-0) faces off with J.P Reese (1-0) in a lightweight clash where only one will exit with their perfect record intact.

Brazilian submission finisher Igor “The Legend” Almedia (6-2) takes on The Ultimate Fighter Season 7 veteran Dan Cramer (5-2) in a battle of intriguing middleweights as the fights continue to roll on.

Rounding out the local card will be two Florida natives returning to the Bellator cage as Frank Carrillo (2-1) takes on Hollywood’s own Moyses Gabin (5-3) in middleweight action.

“We always love coming down to Hollywood and bringing the fight fans a great show,” said Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney. “With two Bellator Championship fights on the card, along with some great local feature fights, this will be a great season finale for Bellator.”

In addition to the local feature fights, an additional main card fight has just been scheduled with explosive submission specialist Raphael Davis (9-1) squaring off against former King of the Cage heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Tony “Kryptonite” Lopez (19-4) in a 205 lbs. battle. Davis is no stranger to Bellator, as the powerful Californian took out Demetrius Richards at Bellator 22 with an impressive submission victory. Bellator 34’s main card also includes:

* Bellator will crown its’ first Women’s Champion when the world’s top pound-for-pound female fighter Megumi “Mega Megu” Fujii (22-0) squares off against knockout artist Zoila “Warrior Princess” Frausto (9-1). Already holding the record for most consecutive wins to start a career, Fujii looks to continue her impressive streak against a dangerous Frausto.
* Hector Lombard (26-2-1) will defend his Middleweight crown as Bellator Season 2 winner Alexander “Storm” Shlemenko (29-3) looks to dethrone the champion and become the new Bellator Middleweight Champion. Sporting a perfect 5-0 record in Bellator with all five wins coming by knockout, Lombard looks to continue his domination of the division against the toughest challenge he has faced in the Bellator cage.
* A Bellator Middleweight Special Feature Fight between undefeated Serbian prospect Dragan “Gagi” Tesanovic (7-0) and knockout artist Mike “El Gringo Diablo” Bernhard (8-2).

Bellator 34Press Release

CHICAGO, Ill. (October 25, 2010) – Bellator Fighting Championships will close out Season 3 with two World Championship fights destined to make Bellator history. Bellator World Middleweight Champion and former Judo Olympian Hector “Shango” Lombard will square off against Russian knockout artist and Season 2 Middleweight Tournament Champion Alexander “Storm” Shlemenko for the Middleweight World Title. And, the #1 ranked pound-for-pound female fighter in the world Megumi “Mega Megu” Fujii will face dynamic striker Zoila “The Warrior Princess” Frausto in a fight to crown the first ever Bellator Women’s Champion at 115 lbs.

“Both of these fights should be electrifying said Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney. “Hector Lombard is the most dynamic and powerful Middleweight in the world today and his challenger; Alexander Shlemenko is a knockout artist from Russia. This fight should be a war. And, when it comes to the Bellator Women’s Title, this really is a dream matchup for the Women’s 115 lb Championship. Fujii is the greatest pound for pound female on earth and Zoila’s striking ability is the better than any woman on earth, south of 125.Fujii’s pound-for-pound title will be on the line in what promises to be one of the most electrifying battles in the history of women’s MMA.”

Training out of Coconut Creek, Florida, the Cuban-born Lombard has carved out a reputation as the most devastating knockout finisher in the sport during his time spent with Bellator. Making his U.S. debut at Bellator 3, Lombard knocked out Virgil Lozano in an opening round middleweight tournament fight. In the semifinals Lombard overwhelmed Damien Stelly with a barrage of strikes in the first round to advance to the Middleweight Championship fight against Jared Hess. After four convincing rounds of punishment, Lombard stopped Hess by TKO (doctor stoppage) to collect the $175,000 in winnings while becoming first ever Bellator Middleweight World Champion.

For Shlemenko, the Russian born powerhouse entered the Season 2 Middleweight Tournament as one of the favorites, and proved his believers right with an impressive showing throughout. Impressive victories over Matt Major and Jared Hess propelled Shlemenko into the finals where he would face fellow favorite Bryan “The Beast” Baker, whose only previous defeat had come at the hands of UFC middleweight Chael Sonnen via decision. As the first round progressed, Shlemenko connected with a right cross that sent Baker to the canvas where the explosive striker hovered over his grounded opponent and teed off with a volley of unanswered strikes that forced the first round stoppage, and earned him the Season 2 Tournament Championship.

“Winning the title is my main goal, and I went a very long way to get here,” said Shlemenko. “Also, in my home city no one has ever had an MMA championship belt of such a high caliber, and I want to be the first one to achieve it.”

Hailing from Tokyo, Japan, Fujii moved into the MMA record books with her impressive tournament semifinal victory over Lisa Ward at Bellator 31 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. With the win, Fujii became the first MMA fighter to win 22 consecutive fights. Widely respected as the most dangerous ground fighter in women’s MMA, out of Mega Megu’s 22 victories, an astonishing 18 have come via submission. Having achieved the rank of black belt in both Jiu-Jitsu and Judo, a Bellator Women’s Championship Title could be the next belt Fujii adds to her collection.

Zoila Frausto continues her rise through the MMA ranks following her drop down in weight from the 135 lb division. The Warrior Princess made a great first impression in Bellator, knocking out the world’s top 125 lb female fighter Rosi Sexton in devastating fashion last June at Bellator 23 to secure her spot in the women’s tournament. Following a convincing unanimous decision victory against the top ten ranked Jessica Pene in the quarterfinals, Zoila was matched up against dangerous submission specialist Jessica Aguilar in semifinal action taking place at Bellator 31. After three hard fought rounds, it was Frausto that found her hand raised and a ticket to the finals. The fast rising Frausto is thankful for the opportunity, and ready to compete for a title.

“This the biggest Woman’s Tournament in the World, stacked with the best competition in the weight class,” said Frausto. “Winning this tournament would make me the best of the best, and I want that more than anything in the world right now.”

During the Bellator 33 post-fight press conference, both Bellator lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez and Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney, placed the blame of failing to put together a fight against Strikeforce lightweight champ Gilbert Melendez, at the feet of Strikeforce and it’s CEO Scott Coker.

Alvarez earned his 21st victory against UFC vet Roger Huerta in last nights main event, dominating the fight and earning a TKO win via doctor stoppage. Alvarez kicked Huerta so hard in the first round that it buckled the former UFC fighter forcing him to fight southpaw. After the second round the doctor stepped in to end the fight.

Alvarez will now push harder for a chance to face Melendez in the future, as he wants to prove his standing among the worlds lightweight fighters. It’s a fight that even Melendez has said he wants.

“Scott Coker doesn’t want it to happen. He’s trying to obviously protect his champion…I want to be number one in the world, and the only way to do that is to fight people like Gilbert…But until then, it’s just talk. The paper’s gotta be signed. Let’s make it happen.”

Bellator CEO Rebney even offered to hold the fight on Showtime in Strikeforce’s home base in San Jose.

“What television network is it going to be on? We’ll do it on Showtime. Where will the fight happen? Well, let’s do it in San Jose. The answers to the questions are very simple. There’s no reason that fight shouldn’t happen but for the fact that the promoter of Gilbert Melendez doesn’t want it to occur.”

Sorry folks, no Eddie Alvarez vs. Roger Huerta highlights. Still working on finding video for the fight.
