Bellator Fighting Championships will find it’s way to Spike TV in the New Year, making the move over from MTV2. Season Eight will debut on Jan. 17 at 10pm EST, a Thursday evening which will remain it’s home for the rest of the season. The first event, Bellator 85 will feature a featherweight title fight between champ Pat Curran vs. Patricio ‘Pitbull’ Freire, while lightweight champ Michael Chandler squares off against Rick Hawn as well.

Press Release – Newport Beach, CA. (December 11, 2012) – Bellator MMA will make its long-awaited premiere on Spike TV on Thursday, January 17 at 10:00pm ET/PT with a star-studded fight card including two Bellator World Championship Title fights.

Emanating from The University of California’s Bren Center in Irvine, CA, featherweight world champion Pat Curran defends his title against explosive knockout artist Patricio Pitbull, while lightweight world champion Michael Chandler battles former Olympian Rick Hawn in their highly anticipated Bellator Championship showdown.

The action-packed night also features the Bellator debut of decorated MMA veteran Renato “Babalu” Sobral, who will fight in the quarterfinals of the Light Heavyweight Tournament against Russian submission ace Mikhail Zayats.

“Our Thursday, January 17th premiere on Spike will be an incredible night for MMA fans; two epic world title fights and an amazing collection of tournament fights” said Bellator Chairman & CEO Bjorn Rebney. “Spike TV is the home for MMA and this event will be a great way to kick off that homecoming.”

Bellator MMA, which features The Toughest Tournament in Sports, will showcase five tournaments this season in different weight classes including featherweight, lightweight, welterweight, middleweight and light heavyweight. The 12-week season, airing on Thursdays at 10pm on Spike TV, will showcase many of the greatest mixed martial arts fighters from around the world in venues spanning across North America.

The final show of Bellator Fighting Championships Season Seven tournament is scheduled to take place this Friday night in Indiana.

Bellator 84 is scheduled to take place on December 14, 2012 at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana with the main card airing on MTV2 and the prelim card streaming live on Spike.com.

The final event features three Season Seven tournament finals with heavyweights Richard Hale meeting Alexander Volkov, lightweights Marcin Held facing Dave Jansen, and featherweights Shahbulat Shamhalaev vs. Rad Martinez all squaring off on the main card.

The Shamhalaev vs. Martinez featherweight final was to have occurred last Friday (Dec. 7) at Bellator 83 until Shamhalaev was forced off the card with food poisoning.

Bellator Fighting Championships continues with it’s Season Seven tournament tonight with the Bellator 83: Martinez vs. Shamhalaev event which goes down live at Caesars Atlantic City in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Bellator 83 began it’s live broadcast at 7pm EST (4pm PST) on MTV2 and in commercial-free HD on EPIX, as well as in Spanish language on mun2. The preliminary card began at 6pm EST and streamed LIVE and FREE on Spike.com.

The event is headlined by a Season Seven featherweight tournament final pitting Rad Martinez vs. Shabulat Shamhalaev. The show also sees the return of former bantamweight champ Zach Makovsky as ‘Funsize’ returns to the cage since his title loss to face Anthony Leone. Women’s flyweight champ Zoila Gurgel takes on promotion newcomer Jessica Eye.
