Press Release – Newport Beach, Cali. (October 12, 2012) — Bellator’s Seventh and final season on MTV2 will come to a dramatic close on December 14th as tickets are now on sale for Bellator 84 from The Venue at Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana. The event will feature the Tournament Finals in both the Featherweight and Heavyweight divisions, as well as the return of the “Lil’ Bulldog” Felice Herrig as she faces off against Michelle Gutierrez. Tickets for the event are on sale now and are available at Horseshoe Casino, Ticketmaster, www.thevenue-chicago.com, or by calling 1-800-745-3000.
The event will broadcast starting at 7 p.m. CT on MTV2 and in commercial-free HD on EPIX, as well as in Spanish language on mun2. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. CT, with the preliminary streamed LIVE and FREE on Spike.com.
“We’ve had great success and explosive fights at Horseshoe Casino, and I expect nothing less on December 14th for Bellator 84,” said Bellator Chairman & CEO Bjorn Rebney. “Our fans in Hammond are going to see two competitors walk away with checks for $100,000, and the chance to fight for a Bellator World Championship on Spike early next year.”
For Herrig, the Illinois native and Team Curran member has her sights set on longtime rival and former colleague Michelle “Diablita” Gutiérrez. Originally tied together under the same fight team, Herrig collected a submission victory over Gutierrez in 2009, but still feels like some unfinished business is on the line.
“We used to have the same management and were put in many situations to work together,” said Herrig. “I honestly gave it my best effort to be friends with her but her unethical practices as a fighter and in business directly impacted me. Fighting Michele again really does nothing for my career other than it gives me a chance to shut her mouth once and for all. It’s time for her to put her money where her mouth is.”
Even with the bad blood between the two, it won’t stop Herrig from realizing the opportunity in front of her.
“I am so excited to fight with Bellator again! To have my first fight back in Hammond is awesome since it’s so close to my home town. I was in the crowd when I witnessed my teammate Pat Curran win the Bellator Featherweight Title and I can’t wait to fight!
Additional information on Bellator 84 will be made available shortly.

Eddie Alvarez back flip
One of the best lightweight fighters not signed to the Ultimate Fighting Championship became a free-agent following last Friday nights Bellator 76 event.
Former Bellator champ Eddie ‘The Silent Assassin’ Alvarez (24-3) completed the last fight of his current contract by knocking high profile fighter Patricky ‘Pitbull’ Freire with a head kick in the main event of the Windsor, Ontario show.
The Philadelphia based fighter isn’t sure where he’ll end up next, but he wants to take his time when it comes to signing his next contract whether or not that is with Viacom, the parent company of MTV2 and Spike, or the UFC, or another promotion.
Alvarez was a guest on The MMA Hour over at MMAFighting.com on Wednesday, where he spoke about his options as a free-agent as well as his recent victory over ‘Pitbull’ Freire.
“I want to sit down with the people of Viacom,” Alvarez said. “I’m interested in what’s going on with the Spike deal next year. Of course Bellator has a ton of huge things going on, and I’m interested in what them guys have to say. From there, we’ll field offers from everyone else, the UFC and everyone else, whoever’s out there, I don’t know who’s out there. I didn’t know Bellator existed, they just started when I was done with my Dream contract, they just popped up out of nowhere.”
The win was the second in a row for ‘The Silent Assassin’ since losing the Bellator title last year to Michael Chandler at Bellator 58. Alvarez avenged a previous loss to Shinya Aoki this past April by finishing the submission specialist via first round TKO at Bellator 66.
When asked about interest from the UFC, in particular from promotion president Dana White who sent him a Twitter message saying “let’s talk” following last Friday’s victory, Alvarez attributed it to White playing games.
“Dana’s a character, man, he likes to play games. I know what he’s doing, I know what he’s up to, hat’s off to him and I’ll see what happens.”
“There’s very few times in your career when you become a free agent after winning. That’s the biggest key.”
With Bellator moving to Spike in the New Year, the coffers may be a little deeper in order to keep a fighter like Alvarez around. The issue being whether or not you put him into the next tournament, which I don’t think Alvarez wants, or you keep him around to headline events for “one-off” fights.
If a world title is truly what Alvarez is after, then I can’t imagine he’ll stick with Bellator as he’s unlikely to have to run the gambit of fights to get to a UFC title that he would in a Bellator tournament. Of course this is all provided that he continues to win.

British striker Paul ‘Semtex’ Daley (30-12-2) appears to have his next opponent in Kyle Baker (12-6) after the ‘Alley Cat’ posted the news on his Facebook page this past Saturday, identifying next months Bellator 79 event in Canada as the host for their welterweight bout.
MMAWeekly.com has also confirmed the matchup since Baker made his announcement.
Bellator 79 is expected to take place on November 2, 2012 at Casino Rama in Rama, Ontario and will feature the Season Seven heavyweight tournament semi-final bouts between Richard Hale vs. Thiago Santos and Vinicius Kappke de Queiroz vs. Alexander Volkov.
Daley debuted with Bellator this past July, finishing veteran Rudy Bears via first round TKO at the Tampa, Florida event. The win put ‘Semtex’ back into the win column after a split decision defeat at the hands of Kazuo Misaki at the Strikeforce: Tate vs. Rousey show in March of this year. Daley is 3-1 over his last four matches.
This bout marks the debut for Baker inside the Bellator cage, entering the fight on a 1-2 record over his last three following a decision loss to Lucio Linhares at a CWCF event in Dubai this past March. The ‘Alley Cat’ has scored most of his wins by (T)KO with nine, while also earning one by submission and two by decision over his pro-career.
