Bellator 207 results are in the book from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Friday, October 12, 2018) will come in the form of Bellator 207. Headlining the card are Matt Mitrione and Ryan Bader, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the rest of the main card.

Matt Mitrione and Ryan Bader met in a heavyweight tournament semifinal bout in the main event. In round 1, Bader got a takedown right out of the gate. Mitrione is able to get back to his feet, but Bader sweeps out the leg and takes him right back down. Bader is landing decent punches from behind as Mitrione tries to fight his way back to his feet. Mitrione is able to survive the round but it’s all Bader.

In the second, Mitrione whiffed on a wild hook and is taken down. Bader is on top half guard and fishing for a cross-body kimura. Mitrione is able to pull to full guard, but Bader is still doing damage. In round 3, Bader took him right down as soon as it started. Bader was in complete control although the live crowd is not enjoying what they were watching – a mauling in the main event. Bader isn’t doing a ton of damage from on top just controlling. Bader earned the decision win to advance. He even picked up a couple 30-24 scores. Ouch.

Sergei Kharitonov and Roy Nelson meet in a heavyweight bout in the co-main event. In round 1, they are throwing hard punches, each landing some. Nelson shoots in but he’s stuffed. Nelson goes down to his knees and Kharitonov knees him right in the head. It doesn’t look hard but it was definitely illegal. Sergei is peppering Nelson with his jab. Nelson is landing a few of his right hands, but the Russian is popping his head with jabs and then slams a hook to the body. A huge flurry of punches to the head rocks Nelson badly.  A knee and follow-up punches drop Nelson face first and this one is over

Lorenz Larkin vs. Ion Pascu is next in a welterweight tournament alternate bout. In round 1, Larkin lands a pair of push kicks to the belly before being shot in on again. Pascu can’t get the takedown and presses him into the fence. Larkin touches him up a bit with some outside striking. In round 2, Larkin is effective early with jabs upstairs and scattered low kicks. Pascu still having a hard time getting into a rhythm. Pascu is starting to get flustered with being stuffed by Larkin’s takedown defense. Pascu grabs Larkin’s leg in an attempt to score a takedown, but Larkin drops him with a right uppercut to the jaw. In round 3, Larkin is sticking his jab in Pascu’s face, keeping him away and frustrated. Pascu finally gets Larkin to the canvas and lands several strikes. The judges gave the win to Larkin.

Corey Browning vs. Kevin Ferguson Jr. is next in a lightweight bout. In round 1, Slice lands a right hook and then shoots in for a successful takedown. Browning scrambles. Browning gets back to his feet, but Slice takes him right back down. Browning is cut on the right side of his head; he sweeps Slice and lands on top, looking to take his back. Browning smoothly puts Slice into a crucifix from behind and lands elbows to the head. In round 2, Slice lands a clean right-left to the head, but Browning fires off a hard right to the jaw, dropping Slice. He recovers quickly and scrambles into Browning’s guard. Slice slithers to his right and locks in an arm-triangle. It’s tight but Browning is fighting through it. Slice got tired and Browning unloads a barrage of punches until the fight is stopped.

Opening the main card on the Paramount Network is Carrington Banks vs. Mandel Nallo in a lightweight bout. In round 1, they trade some decent punches. Banks shoots in and ties Nallo up before being taken down. Nallo locks in a D’Arce choke but Banks is fending it off nicely. The choke is deep but he eventually pops out of it. Banks pops up to his feet and powers Nallo back down to the canvas and lands in his guard. Nallo doesn’t do anything else in the round. In round 2, Nallo with a step-in knee that lands right to the jaw! Banks is out cold.

Here are the results for this event:

He may be just two wins away from winning the Heavyweight Grand Prix but that didn’t stop Chael Sonnen from trashing the entire division.

Sonnen will be facing arguably the greatest heavyweight fighter in mixed martial arts history on Saturday night (Oct 13, 2018) as he squares off against Fedor Emelianenko in the main event of Bellator 208.

“I think it discredits all the heavyweights completely,” Sonnen told MMAjunkie.“The best thing to do with heavyweights is to keep them the hell from any other weight class. They’re the worst athletes in the room, they’re the slowest guys in the room. They’re the laziest guys in the room – which is why they weigh so goddamn much.

“If you want to keep the mystique going on to the public that size matters and that the big guys are better, just because they’re bigger if you want to keep that false narrative out there, keep us, real athletes, away from the heavyweights. I think (the Grand Prix) was a risky move. They tried it on the other side of the tracks, and a light heavyweight now has that strap, too. Heavyweights suck, Mitrione is right.”

Sonnen is referring to Daniel Cormier, who won the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix as an unknown alternate. However, unlike Cormier, “The American Gangster” just recently made his heavyweight debut against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in the first round of the Grand Prix.

If Sonnen does beat Emelianenko on Saturday night he will advance to fight finals. There he will face the winner of the other semifinal bout, either Matt Mitrione or Ryan Bader.

If Sonnen had things his way, he would save the promotion some money on travel expenses.

“If there’s a quick fight up in the Mohegan Sun, they can just bring one of those sons of (expletives) down here, I’ll fight them tomorrow night. We can save Bellator on the travel money,” Sonnen said. “I don’t have any idea why we have to spread this thing out. People are talking about a quick turnaround to January 26; what’s quick about that? Let’s go on the back, let’s have a drink of water, let’s walk back out there. If I’ve got to change my shorts so there’s a red corner, blue corner, let’s do it.

“Matt Mitrione is saying I’m too small to win this tournament? I cut him in half and fight him twice. Why do I give a damn what Matt Mitrione thinks? He can bring himself and Ryan Bader. Ryan Bader walking around like he’s some kind of ape. I’ll treat him like an ape. I’ll sit on the crowd tomorrow night and throw bananas at him.”

Knowing full well that Fedor wouldn’t give him much to work with in terms of trash talking ammunition, Sonnen went the other way, complementing the Russian.

“He shows up in a language that nobody can understand, in a T-shirt that nobody can read, and somehow that gets over,” Sonnen said. “And I wouldn’t encourage any young fighter to copy that example unless you want to have a short career and no money, and bad memories when it’s over. I would encourage you to find another guy and take his paradigm. But it seems to work for him.

“I’m not really saying this to be the skunk of the garden party, as much as to point out that, look, he figured something out. (Former UFC heavyweight champion) Brock Lesnar is the same way. There’s a mystique around them that happens to work and less is more. If he opens his mouth, he runs the risk of ruining the mystique. It’s still a marketing angle, it’s still a gimmick, and people can choose to believe that he’s the world’s nicest guy. And he might be, but he might not. You don’t know him, and neither do I.”

Sonnen wasn’t done yet. He wanted to remind the world who the king of trash talking was following UFC 229’s melee.

“I’ve sold more pay-per-views than anybody, more tickets than anybody, that was on the other side of the bridge,” Sonnen said. “Now I’m over there with the boys in San Jose – I still have the live gate record. I did it a year ago, at (Madison Square Garden), and nobody’s touched it since. I will outdo myself once again; beat my own records. It’s the same thing I had to do my whole career, and nobody else wants to talk to anybody else. And I’m not even trying to be an arrogant prick about it. I realize how that sounds.

“Why would they have a press conference and bring other people in here? What the hell does anybody want to ask them for? I look around the stage – bunch of very nice guys, bunch of guys that I like very much. I did’t even know when they were on the card until they sat down here today. And I love the sport. I follow it very closely, and I didn’t have the foggiest idea. And neither did you, and neither did anybody else. I’m just looking around going, ‘You know, we really could have saved some time.’”

Chael Sonnen Clarifies Calling Fedor’s Previous Fights ‘Fixed’

Chael Sonnen has addressed why he has said in the past that Fedor’s fights were fixed.

The post Chael Sonnen Clarifies Calling Fedor’s Previous Fights ‘Fixed’ appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Chael Sonnen clarifies his comments made in the past about how Fedor Emelianenko had fixed fights while competing under the now-defunct PRIDE banner.

The former middleweight and light heavyweight title contender is well known for his trash talk. In the past, Sonnen has discredited Emelianenko’s resume and questioned the legitimacy of his career in the promotion.

Chael Sonnen Clarifies

However, that has all changed while promoting his scheduled fight which is a heavyweight grand prix semifinal at Bellator 208. Now, Sonnen is praising Fedor as the greatest heavyweight of all time.

“I’ll clarify it: PRIDE was fixed,” Sonnen told MMAjunkie. “That’s not to say his fights were fixed. PRIDE was so long ago I can’t believe people are still talking about it. PRIDE had fixed fights, and that’s the way it goes. If you fix one fight your whole organization is ruined. I think it’s one of the reasons that they’re off TV and they’re out of business and they’re not doing it anymore.”

Continues

Sonnen continued by stating that if Fedor did have fixed fights then he would need to go back and look at them.

“If Fedor had fixed fights – I’d have to go back and look. I don’t remember thinking Fedor was in fixed fights, I don’t remember thinking a number of those guys were in fixed fights. But they fixed fights. Period.”

The Event

Sonnen was able to pick up a decision win over former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton Jackson at Bellator 192 at The Forum in Inglewood, California in January to move forward in the tournament.

Bellator 208 is set to take place on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. The preliminary card will air online at 7:00 pm EST while the main card will air on Paramount Network at 9:00 PM EST.
