War Machine’s Big House Blog Fans Rejoice; Jon Koppenhaver Is Headed Back to Jail for a Year

(Covering up that neck tattoo before going to court would have been a good idea.)

If you’ve been missing War Machine’s acclaimed Big House Blogs, you’re probably the only group that is going to be happy about this news.

According to the fighter formerly known as Jon Koppenhaver, he has been sentenced to another year in jail in Las Vegas for an old charge, forcing him to withdraw from Bellator’s season six welterweight tournament that gets underway in March. He indicated on Twitter that he will begin serving his sentence in two weeks and that, as per usual, he isn’t happy with the system.

“Seems my year in jail wasnt enough. Just got sentenced to another year in Vegas for some old bullshit. Nevermind Im rehabilitated. Nevermind Ive been out for over 6 months now and doing great and am finally back on my feet. Nevermind all my students that will miss me. Do another year and rot n waste time. Make no money, pay no taxes. Whatever, I just hope my boy @bensaundersMMA wins @BellatorMMA tournament. Fuck the motherfucking system! Fuck the bullshit! Vacation time, back to jail in 2 weeks! Cant stop me, all you can do is delay the inevitable. War Machine will always be back! Oh ya the judge looked and me and said she can tell Im on steroids and that thats prolly why I got in so many fights and am angry..lol Bitch”

I actually feel bad for the guy. He genuinely seemed to be focusing on getting his life together and he had an impressive showing against former UFC poster boy Roger Huerta. Maybe changing his name back to Jon would be a step in the right direction since most judges might look at the name “War Machine” as being a red flag.

I’m guessing this won’t help sway his belief that Obama has fucked up America beyond repair.

The May show will be the third held at the native-run casino. Both Bellator 47 and 57 took place at the venue.

Known for giving local fighters a shot at competing on a bigger stage, it’s likely that Bellator will include several up-and-coming mixed martial artists from the Greater Toronto Area and its surrounding municipalities to the card, which will no doubt feature some of its other contracted Canadian talent like Cory MacDonald, Ryan Ford and Nordine Taleb. The event will be rounded out by match-ups from the season 6 bantamweight, featherweight, lightweight, welterweight and middleweight tournaments which get underway March 9 at Bellator 60.

We’ll have more news on the fight card as it becomes available.

In November, Bellator‘s heavyweight tournament finals match went to a no contest, after an illegal but accidental low blow by Thiago Santos left Eric Prindle unable to continue. The fight, which will determine the next challenger to face champion Cole Konrad, has now been reset for a March 9 date.

The bout will take place at Bellator 61, the second show of Bellator’s sixth season, and will emanate from Bossier City at the Horseshoe Riverdome in Louisiana.

At Bellator 59, Santos (10-1, 1 no contest) had Prindle (7-1, 1 no contest) prone on the ground when he landed a kick between Prindle’s legs just 84 seconds into the fight. After a five-minute recovery period, Prindle still couldn’t continue and the fight was ruled a no contest after the referee determined the blow to be accidental.

The March 16 event will also host the quarterfinals of a middleweight tournament.

Those bouts are also set, and the matchups will pair UFC veteran Maiquel Falcao vs. Norman Paraisy, Brian Rogers vs. Vitor Vianna, Vyacheslav Vasilevsky vs. Victor O’ Donnell and Giva “The Arm Collector” Santana vs. Bruno Santos.

Vianna (12-2-1) was a finalist in last season’s middleweight tournament, losing a decision to Alexander Shlemenko in the finals.

Vasilevsky is a notable new entrant to the field, coming in with a 15-1 record and riding a 14-fight win streak. The fight will also mark his US debut.

Bellator Planning April 6 Event In Windsor, Ontario, Canada

Windsor, Ontario MMA fans will likely only have to wait a few more months for their next live fight fix.

CagePotato.com has learned that Bellator Fighting Championships have penciled in an event for April 6 in Windsor, Ontario and that the event is likely to take place at Caesar’s Windsor Casino, just across the Ambassador bridge from Detroit.

The Chicago-based promotion had originally planned on holding a show on April 27 back at Casino Rama in Rama, Ontario, north of Toronto, but were unable to secure the date as the commission is already slated to oversee another event  in Belleville, Ontario that night.

Although no bouts have been announced for the card, it’s likely that Bellator will use a number of its contracted fighters from Great Fight North including Ryan Ford, Cory MacDonald and Nordine Taleb. Chris Horodecki is another likely candidate for the card, having fought for Bellator on one of its two other Ontario cards, as is Ali Mokdad, an up-and-coming Windsor-based Lebanon-born lightweight who we have learned is in talks with the Viacom-owned promotion.

The event will be the second one hosted by Caesar’s Windsor. MFC 29 took place at the casino on April 8, 2011 — almost a year to the day of the yet-to-be-named Bellator event.

We’ll have more on the card and the event details as they become available.

Report: Bellator Signs Sean McCorkle for Season 6 Debut on March 9th

(“Chainsaw-f*cking” jokes are so much funnier when Dane Cook does them.)

In their continuing efforts to pick up the best fighters that Zuffa doesn’t want, Bellator has reportedly signed former UFC heavyweight prospect Sean McCorkle to compete on the undercard of Bellator 60, March 9th in Hammond, Indiana. According to Sherdog, his opponent is expected to be Richard “Big Man” White, who has lost ten of his last twelve fights.

McCorkle’s brief spin through the Octagon was highlighted by an agonizing weight cut, a debut victory against Mark Hunt, and back-to-back stoppage losses against Stefan Struve and Christian Morecraft. Since then, he’s gone 3-0 in regional leagues, with all wins by first-round submission. Like many of his early opponents, his last two victims carried losing records. McCorkle is already booked to face Mike Gordon next Saturday at a North American Allied Fight Series event in West Virginia. Gordon is undefeated in sanctioned MMA competition, with a perfect record of 1-0. Christ, Sean, where do you find these people?

Bellator 60 will kick off the promotion’s sixth season, and will feature a featherweight title fight between Pat Curran and Joe Warren, as well as all four quarterfinal matches in the Season 6 featherweight bracket. The event was originally scheduled to take place on March 2nd, but that date has now been scrapped.

Semi-related Sean McCorkle quote: ”I always said in the past, the only people who take steroids are the guys who like winning and money.”
