One-time Bellator lightweight title challenger, Peter Queally tops another Emerald Isle card this week following a prior November homecoming. And with stakes high for the Waterford veteran, Queally hopes to earn a trilogy rubber match against champion, Patricky Pitbull off the back of a massive clash with former UFC star, Benson Henderson at Bellator 285.
Queally, the current #7 ranked Bellator lightweight contender, featured most recently at Bellator 270 back in November in a vacant title rematch with Pitbull, suffering a second round knockout loss to the Brazilian veteran.
The Waterford native, who plys his trade between Straight Blast Gym HQ and the banner’s Naas facility, holds a prior finish over Pitbull, to boot – forcing a second round doctor’s stoppage win of his own after opening a series of cuts on his hairline in May of last year.
Peter Queally welcomes a definitive third fight with Patricky Pitbull
The victory came as Queally’s second in the promotion since his landing under the scrutiny of Scott Coker – after rallying to finish Ryan Scope at the 3Arena after a tumultuous back-and-forth in front of a raucous attendance.
Speaking with LowKick MMA reporter, Joe Reynolds, Queally maintained he was not overlooking his pivotal clash with former UFC champion, Henderson, however, hopes to settle his rivalry with Pitbull in the future.
“Definitely,” Peter Queally replied when asked if he’s open to a third fight with Pitbull. “You know, I’d like if it was for the belt obviously, but even if it’s not for the belt, I wanna fight Patricky (Pitbull) again. I feel like that’s kinda unfinished – I think it’s one all.”
“I think we need to kinda put a definitive end to that one,” Peter Queally explained. “And see who the better man is there. Hopefully I’ll meet him for the belt, maybe after this fight, or after my next fight.”
Detailing how he underwent a surgical procedure earlier this year to address a forever niggling shoulder injury, Queally was initially scheduled to feature at Bellator 275 back in February of this year against Manchester veteran, Kane Mousah, however, was ruled from proceedings to injury.
Boasting a 13-6 professional record, Queally, 33, who has competed under the Cage Warriors, BAMMA, Cage Legacy, and Fight Nights Global banners to name a few, entered the Bellator cage off the back of notable victories against Igor Egorov, and David Khachatryan.

“Cowboy” is currently enjoying a break from the octagon following his second round, TKO loss to Jorge Masvidal at UFC on Fox: Shevchenko vs. Peña in January.
Cerrone was enjoying a four-fight win streak at welterweight, which included three “Performance of the Night” awards prior to Masvidal derailing his success following his jump from lightweight.
“Cowboy” is just as renowned for his activity inside the cage as he is for his fighting skills. For example, the fan-favorite fought and beat Benson Henderson on the Conor McGregor v Denis Siver card just 15 days following his defeat over Miles Jury at UFC 182, and fans are keen to see the former WEC title challenger take a break to readjust himself prior to a return to the octagon.
Those calls appear to have been heeded by “Cowboy”, as he recently spoke with TMZ Sports to discuss his downtime at Daytona 500. Cerrone discusses why the UFC is scarier than NASCAR and gives his insight into “topless festivities” and “crazy redneck chicks lying around naked”.
There is winding down, and then there is winding down “Cowboy” style…

Former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson feels he didn’t live up to the lofty contract that Bellator paid him in his free agency a few years ago.
Henderson is fresh off of an impressive win over Islam Mamedov at Bellator 273 this past weekend. The victory snapped a three-fight losing streak with many questioning how much longer he would be able to compete for the promotion.
Henderson has been unable to achieve the same type of championship-level success that he enjoyed in the UFC. He has fallen short in welterweight and lightweight title shots against Michael Chandler and Andrey Koreshkov.
“I want to re-sign with Bellator,” Henderson said. “I want to get a Bellator belt around my waist. I feel bad for Bellator. I feel like I underperformed my contract for Bellator. They paid me a lot of money. I should have done a better job for Bellator.”
Benson Henderson Has Teased Retirement After Recent Fights
Many have questioned how much longer Henderson will compete in MMA, as he’s now 38 years old. He teased the idea of leaving the fight game after recent losses to Brent Primus and Jason Jackson.
Henderson still believes he can still compete against some of the most elite fighters in Bellator and hopes to get one last shot at a title before his career comes to a close. His win over Mamedov keeps him in the thick of things in the lightweight title picture, with his old rival Patricky Pitbull recently earning the belt.
It’s unclear how much longer Henderson has left to fight, but fans should embrace his greatness for as long as we can witness it. He’s arguably one of the most feared strikers in the history of the UFC and is somewhat responsible for putting the lightweight division on the map.
