Paulie Malignaggi was handed an indefinite sit on the Bare-Knuckle FC (BKFC) 6 medical suspensions, and it’s no surprise why.

Malignaggi recently took to Instagram to issue a statement on his loss to Artem Lobov in Florida this past weekend. He also shares some photos of his ridiculously swollen hands after the scrap. Here’s what he had to say:

“Life is sometimes about being adventurous and trying new things. Many thought I was crazy for trying my hand at bare knuckle combat and while unfortunately I may not have been born with very durable hands, it is still an experience I get to look back on and say I lived it. People have always had very little expectations of me in my life but I can proudly say I’ve always fought my way to a better life.

In life we all have obstacles and I’ve always been driven most when faced with adversity. In the end, despite my brittle hands (4 surgeries on my right hand) I have been able to accomplish more as mainly a 1 handed fighter than most fighters accomplish with 2 hands. And I did it with no shortcuts and having fought some amazing fighters, travelled to some amazing places and met some amazing people along the way. You always wonder if as you get older you still have the ability to dig down when things get tough.

After 2 rounds Saturday night I sat in my corner now knowing I would be a 1 handed fighter for the remainder of this fight and I am proud I continued on and showed myself I still had a willingness to dig deep when faced with adversity as I found myself once again in a familiar predicament of having a damaged hand with a determined opponent across the ring coming to rip my head off yet now I was competing in a new form of combat.

I assure you its not an enviable position but I’m glad I stayed true to myself as a man and as a fighter in the moment and continued to fight despite having to obviously adjust my strategy. Respect to @rushammerwho always shows up to fight and give his best no mater what day or place or at what weight and respect to him for the fight on Saturday.

Obviously I feel like I won the fight but that is in no way meant as a disrespect to him. I hope he can take the momentum he gained from this result and make plenty of money for himself and his family in his career . Here are some pics of my hands after Saturday nights fight.”

Following his unanimous decision loss to Lobov, Malignaggi slammed the “bush league” judging for the bare-knuckle contest. He also noted that he’s likely done fighting, although he admitted, had he won, he probably would’ve continued.

The dust has settled on the Bare-Knuckle FC (BKFC) 6 main event between Artem Lobov and Paulie Malignaggi.

Lobov left Florida with the victory after out-pointing the former boxing World Champion inside the ring. The pair put on a great scrap after their bad-blood rivalry and intense buildup heading into the contest. However, one man who wasn’t impressed is BKFC star Jason “The Kid” Knight.

Speaking after the fight to announce his upcoming return to bare-knuckle action, Knight said he believes both Lobov and Malignaggi were “scared” (via MMA Fighting):

“I saw two fighters that were both kind of scared of each other. Paulie was just a little more scared than Artem was,” Knight said. “Paulie was scared to f*cking death. And Artem, he wanted to play it safe, I don’t blame him. The guy is supposed to be a way better boxer than you, you’re supposed to play it safe. All Artem had to do was take that fight away and he did.”

Knight maintained that the only reason Lobov fought hard in their own main event earlier this year, was because he himself was one-half of the contest. The Mississippi native said that when he returns to action this August against Leonard Garcia, the result will be the same:

“Paulie’s soft and we proved it tonight,” Knight said. “The only reason that you saw Artem fight so hard in that last fight is because Jason Knight was there. This fight wasn’t nearly as exciting as it was last time.

“But I promise you August 10, Leonard Garcia is going to show up and he’s going to have to fight me.”

Over the weekend (Sat. June 22, 2019) Chris Leben was defeated in bare-knuckle action.

Leben took on Dakota Cochrane in the co-main event of Bare-Knuckle FC (BKFC) 6 from the Florida State Fairgrounds Expo Hall in Tampa, Florida. Unfortunately for the former UFC star, Leben was defeated by Cochrane via unanimous decision. They jerked the curtain for the highly-anticipated main event between Paulie Malignaggi and Artem Lobov.

Shortly after his defeat, Leben took to Instagram to show off his battle scars. “The Crippler” took some nasty damage from his scrap with Cochrane. Check it out here:

“Well you drive a car long enough you go to get in a wreck it was a good fun fight thank you BKFC Way to go @dakotacochranemma I’ve been punched by a lot of people before but I don’t think anybody hit me quite as hard as the guy!!”

Leben was previously undefeated in bare-knuckle competition. He strung together a two-fight knockout streak before going the distance with Cochrane. Prior to this weekend, Leben hadn’t gotten out of the first round against any of his opponents. As for his mixed martial arts (MMA) career, Leben hasn’t fought since 2013 when he was defeated by Uriah Hall under the UFC banner.

Now, Leben has seemed to find a resurgence in his combats sports career at 38-years-old. It will be interesting to see how he bounces back after his first loss in bare-knuckle competition.

Artem Lobov was able to get the job done against Paulie Malignaggi last night (Sat. June 22, 2019) at Bare-Knuckle FC (BKFC) 6.

Malignaggi is a former boxing World Champion, so Lobov had a calculated game-plan heading into the contest. Lobov wanted to clinch with Malignaggi as much as possible, however, during the fight, the referee broke the clinch exchanges up fairly quickly (via MMA Junkie):

“The clinch is the huge part of my gameplan; I don’t want to (expletive) mess around with a pro boxer,” Lobov said. “That’s his game, so even if I felt I was better than him, it would be stupid of me to just exchange there with him.”

Lobov acknowledged that, in boxing, the clinch is separated quickly, as it’s not allowed. However, in a sport like bare-knuckle, where it is, it was a bit surprising to have the exchanges broken up so fast:

“I was a little bit surprised with the referee when we were in the clinch,” Lobov said. “I was on top of him, and right away they were breaking up the clinch. If you look at some of the boxing fights, even in a boxing fight, the clinch is not allowed, they allow people to do a lot more in the clinch than they do here, where the clinch is allowed.”

Paulie Malignaggi believes he was robbed last night (Sat. June 22, 2019) in his Bare-Knuckle FC 6 bout against Artem Lobov.

The pair fought all five rounds in the BKFC 6 main event. When it was all said and done, the judges’ awarded “The Russian Hammer” the unanimous decision win. Speaking at the post-fight press conference, Malignaggi blasted the Florida judging, claiming they don’t know what boxing is (via MMA Mania):

“The only thing I could come up with is a couple of times off the spin-offs I went off-balance and he kind of grazed me with some shots that maybe they thought the punches caused me to go off-balance instead of my legs and my spin-off going off-balance and they thought he was hurting me so that made them give him a round,” Malignaggi said.

“This is also a problem when you have a state that has a fight every 50 years. You have judges that don’t know what the f*ck they’re watching, don’t know what the f*ck they’re doing, and you get this. Everybody and their mothers thought I won this fight, but you know what? I’m also 38 years old and I guess this is sort of a sign to say, ‘Yo, you gotta stop.’

“Because I probably would have kept doing this if I won this fight tonight… once I got in there and I got going it was kind of fun. It was like I was in the moment. Sure, it sucks getting hit, of course. But I took that one shot in the clinch and I thought I dealt with the clinch pretty well, I was pretty elusive, and so I was boxing well.”

Malignaggi went on the label the judging as “bush league,” and maintains that he out-boxed the former UFC star:

“Ironically, the judges gave me the first two rounds and then after three they didn’t give me a round. Again, bush league shit, because I got cut in round three. Once the bush league shit came in they literally only scored my blood. The same shit was happening, he was getting out-boxed very easily, but now I was cut.

“And clearly the bush league judges scored the blood and not the actual fight or what was happening, because realistically nothing else happened aside from that clinch where he definitely got me with some good shots.”
