Luke Rockhold eyes potential UFC return despite retiring it's on my terms

Former undisputed UFC middleweight champion, Luke Rockhold has failed to rule out the possibility of making a return to the Octagon in the future, despite calling time on his professional mixed martial arts career back in August of last year.

Rockhold, a former undisputed middleweight champion under the banners of the UFC and Strikeforce, called time on his mixed martial arts career back in August of last year, after marking his return to the Octagon at UFC 278.

Featuring in a main card clash against one-time middleweight title challenger, Paulo Costa, Californian veteran, Rockhold suffered a unanimous decision loss, in a heralded back-and-forth clash.

Slated to return to combat sports this month under the banner of BKFC (Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship), Rockhold is set to clash with former UFC welterweight contender, Mike Perry in a main event slot in Colorado.

Luke Rockhold fails to rule out potential UFC comeback

Weighing up a potential return to mixed martial arts, Rockhold claimed that he would, however, only consider a comeback to the UFC if it was on his own terms.

“Who knows if I’m gonna go back [to UFC] or not,” Luke Rockhold told Submission Radio during a recent interview. “I don’t know. If it’s on my terms – I might still go back. You never know, but I’m gonna continue doing what I’m doing right now, and I’m gonna keep knocking f*cking peoples’ heads off and let my legs heal up and improve my hands. Make some f*cking money.”

Taking inspiration from newly minted undisputed middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya, Rockhold branded the Nigerian-Kiwi as a “f*cking gangster”.

“It was picture f*cking perfect,” Luke Rockhold said of Israel Adesanya’s win over Alex Pereira at UFC 287. “Good for him. …I’m sure I inspired ‘Izzy’ when he was younger and he’s inspiring me now. You can draw inspiration through everybody. He’s a f*cking gangster.”

While Perry Vs. Rockhold in a bare knuckle fight is not something that fans asked for, now its hear it is certainly an exciting prospect. Perry has enjoyed a successful life outside the UFC after being cut in 2021 winning two bare knuckle and a mixed rules boxing match.

Now perry will greet promotional newcomer, Rockhold on April 29 and the pair would come face-to-face for the very first time yesterday. The contrasting personalities certainly did not disappoint in their meeting, with Perry picking his nose and wiping it on Rockhold.

Mike Perry and Luke Rockhold face-off

Prior to their meeting, Rockhold had harsh words for Perry and seems more than up for the challenge.

“I’m confident in my abilities to put this kid away,” Rockhold told MMA Junkie Radio. “I don’t think he understands the danger that’s coming, and that’s the thing that works to his advantage, too. He doesn’t understand danger; he’s so f*cking dumb. It makes him effective, but also I think it’s gonna leave me the opening so I can put this kid away. I’m big, and I hit hard. I don’t think you’re ready. I’m not an 80-year-old man you can knock the f*ck out. You f*ckng piece of sh*t.”

The co-main event will also feature two former UFC fighters in Eddie Alvarez and Chad Mendes. While out of competition for several years, Mendes has posted videos to social media of him looking smashing the and looking well above the 145lb limit that he used to fight at. As for Alvarez, well the Underground King he has not had the best run outside of the UFC, his pedigree for exciting fights says that this bout could be all action, for how long it lasts.

The card will also feature a litany of bare knuckle bouts including a championship fight between Bec Rawlings and Christene Ferea.

BKFC promoter, David Feldman revealed that Francis’ Ngannou’s demands were too steep for the parties to come to an agreement.

Earlier this year it was revealed that Ngannou and the UFC had parted ways after a long and ugly dispute. The heavyweight felt that he was being underpaid, but even after months of negotiation, the promotion and Ngannou could not agree on a figure, so the then reigning champion would walk.

It’s been several months and while rumours have flown, nothing concrete has emerged regarding Ngannou’s next move. The Cameroonian has said to have held talks with the likes of PFL, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom boxing and Bellator.

David Feldman talks Francis Ngannou

During a press conference for BKFC 42, Feldman was quizzed on whether the Ben Rothwell facing Ngannou. While Feldman has signed some big names as of late, including former UFC champions Luke Rockhold and Eddie Alvarez, the American revealed that Ngannou was simply asking for too much money.

Francis Ngannou, he’s somebody we’ve certainly reached out to,” Feldman said. “We’ve reached out to him, we’ve reached out to his team, and we just feel like he’s asking for unrealistic money, and we’re not willing to pay that kind of money for him.”

Alleged text messages that were leaked between Ali Abdelaziz and a European promoter stated that Ngannou was asking for $30 million. Where this figure is completely accurate is unclear, but Feldman says the heavyweight needs to make his mind up soon.

“I do think he needs to make his mind up pretty soon,” Feldman said. “As the days go on, his value is starting to drop a little bit.”
