Making his awaited BKFC (Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship) debut this Saturday evening at BKFC: Thailand 3 – decorated Muay Thai star and sport icon, Buakaw Banchamek turned in a relatively straightforward performance against Erkan Varol, scoring a first round body shot knockout win.

Buakaw Banchamek, who linked up with the David Feldman-led BKFC banner earlier this summer, was also recently joined on the promotion’s roster ahead of a return to Thailand by fellow Thai striking sensation, Saenchai Saepong, made his debut under the promotion at an event tonight in his home country.

Drawing the Turkey native, Varol at the 155lb limit at the Rajadamnern Stadium, Buakaw Banchamek patiently led the former around the ring through the opening round, before springing with a body shot – immediately garnering a response and grimace from Varol.

Marching forward and keeping pressure afoot, Banchamek landed a series of follow-up body shots on Varol in a quick flurry of striking expertise, dropping the Turk on this occasion. With the knockdown count commencing, Buakaw looked on as Varol failed to return to his feet in the first round – scoring the Thai legend a first round knockout victory in his official BKFC bow.

Buakaw is regarded as one of the most decorated strikers in Muay Thai history

A decorated Muay Thai striker, the Phuket phenom has landed an array of world championships and Lumpinee stadium titles, including K-1 World Max championships in both 2004 and 2006.

John Dodson, former UFC two-title flyweight world title challenger made his highly-anticipated Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship debut at BKFC 28 last Saturday night.

In the co-main event of the evening, he faced another former UFC standout Ryan Benoit. As the two debutants toed the line, John Dodson came flying off the scratch line with his signature speed on display. In the end, it only took ‘The Magician’ 40 seconds to finish Benoit in spectacular fashion.

Following the victory, John Dodson spoke with MMA Underground about his incredible BKFC debut.

“I told you I was sacrificing these hands non-stop to go ahead and get that victory and I made sure I stayed true to my promise. I went out there and I wasn’t a liar. Everyone kept sitting there going, ‘Well, I don’t know if Dodson’s still got it.’ I showed on Saturday night that I did. I went out there with a very tough opponent who’s seasoned, but as he stepped into the squared circle, I almost called the outcome. My bad. [His] acceptance to that squared circle with me… He realized I was a different breed. A different animal and I showcased why I’m one of the most violent individuals in the world. Not just BKFC, Not just UFC. Just in the world.”

John Dodson was also asked bout the conditions of his hands after his first foray into the world of bare-knuckle boxing.

“So, my hands are fine, they’re just a little swollen. You can see my little left one has a little nub on it, but that’s about it.”

John Dodson Wasn’t The Only Fighter With The Last Name Dodson to Score a Win at BKFC 28

Earlier in the evening, John Dodson’s younger brother Eric Dodson made his BKFC debut against Nick Villar. It only took the younger Dodson 23-seconds to dispatch his opponent in what would be crowned the Knockout of the Night for BKFC 28.

“Well, one of my anxiety and my nerves were off the chain because of the fact that my brother was fighting first, so I had to go corner him. It’s an uncontrollable animal that I know people always like to sit and they’re saying, ‘Oh, yeah, you’re always so cool, calm, collected.’ I was nervous. I was like… Had butterflies [in] my stomach and I watched him go out there and perform and I was like, ‘Oh, hell yeah.’ He’s going out there, got a 23-second knockout. Not only was it a knockout, it was knockout of the night for BKFC. He came out there, did his thing. He looked at me and he said, ‘Hey, you gotta go and beat my time of 23-seconds.”

It took the brothers a combined 63 seconds to secure victories over their respective opponents. Talking about his future with BKFC, John Dodson says that he hopes to fight again before the end of the year, but is open to taking another MMA bout if nobody steps up to face him inside the squared circle.

“My plan is to hopefully… I can fight before the end of the year. I can fight BKFC [or] MMA. Anybody who’s chomping at the bit, who just saw me perform like I did. Everybody pretty much realized the value of what I still got. It’s not like I’m sitting there wondering as if I Anderson Silva where I could possibly be doing something… Fighting somebody that was over the hill as in Vitor Belfort. Belfort was [nothing] less than amazing in his career, but I’m still in my prime. I’m still sitting there my thing and I’m making sure I can make waves from here on out.”

Former UFC flyweight title challenger and The Ultimate Fighter victor, Albuquerque veteran, John Dodson got off a flying start in his BKFC (Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship) debut last night against fellow UFC veteran, Ryan Benoit – scoring a 40-second knockout victory at BKFC 28: Ferea vs. Starling.

Dodson, a staple of Jackson-Wink MMA in his native Albuquerque, New Mexico – entered his BKFC bow off the back of a unanimous decision win over another ex-UFC talent, Francisco Rivera at XMMA 4 in April of this year.

The 37-year-old most notably competed for undisputed UFC flyweight gold on two separate occasions against former champion, Demetrious Johnson – twice unable to dethrone the recently-minted ONE Championship flyweight kingpin.

Ending his UFC tenure back in August 2020 after a unanimous decision defeat against recent UFC 278 feature, Merab Dvalishvili, John Dodson tried his hand – or hands more so, under the David Feldman-led BKFC banner last night in his native Albuquerque at the Rio Rancho Events Center.

Tackling the aforenoted, Benoit, Dodson, revered for his overall agility and speed during his peak in the UFC, got off to a blistering start against the former, scoring a knockdown and subsequent TKO victory in just 40-seconds after a slew of quickfire shots against the ropes – forcing Benoit to the canvas.

During his lengthy and storied Octagon tenure, John Dodson, who clinched The Ultimate Fighter 14 tournament with a knockout over former two-time bantamweight champion, T.J. Dillashaw, also holds victories over the likes of Jussier Formiga, John Moraga, Zach Makovsky, Manvel Gamburyan, Eddie WIneland, Pedro Munhoz, and Nathaniel Wood.

In the night’s headlining bout, defending flyweight champion, Christine Ferea successfully knocked back her competition in the form of Taylor Starling – landing another comprehensive triumph with a 47-second knockout victory in the opening round of their respective curtain closer.

Mike Perry

Hot off the heels of an electric bare-knuckle brawl with Bellator welterweight Michael Page, Mike Perry has offered to face off against some of the biggest names in the combat sports world.

Perry, who previously plied his trade in the UFC, is now 2-0 in BKFC, with his first victory coming against another former MMA fighter in Julian Lane. He also picked up a win in the custom rules Triad Combat 1 event, that Triller Fight Club put on.

‘Platinum’ Perry is now looking to take on more of the combat sports elite, as he offered to face one of MMA’s all time greats, as well as one of the best boxers in the world right now. Featuring on a recent episode of The MMA Hour, Mike Perry was asked by Ariel Helwani who he would like to face next. His response went as follows:

“I haven’t seen Jon in a while, so if Jon Jones wants to come beat me up in bare knuckle then I’d be down. That’s my boy, I love fighting man. So, I want to fight the best. Usyk, if you wanna come, or KSI was at the fight, I don’t think he wants those problems. As far as bare-knuckle boxing, a lot of people might not want it. I mean who’s the best fighter out there right now. It’s me, I am!”

Mike Perry call’s out Jake Paul

Another opponent Mike Perry is keen to face is former YouTube star turned pro boxer, Jake Paul. In the aftermath of Perry’s victory over ‘MVP,’ he took to the mic, stating:

“Jake Paul, you need an opponent,” Mike Perry said. “You need the money fight, I’m the real money fight. Maybe I’ll put the pillows back on if you’re scared to get in here.”

Jake Paul has made a career in boxing from fighting former MMA fighters, so Perry would be an ideal opponent. ‘The Problem Child’ also recently had two fights fall out in the same month, as bouts with both Tommy Fury and Hasim Rahman Jr. failed to come to fruition.

Paul has also stated that he has an opponent ready for a bout in October.
