UFC veterans, Gabriel Gonzaga, and Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva made their Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship debut on Oct. 19. There, the winner could be set up for another big fight against Wanderlei Silva or perhaps a title shot against Chase Sherman.

In the first round, the two were feeling each other out with Silva landing the harder and more powerful shots. Then, however, in the second round, Gonzaga realized Silva’s power could not hurt him so he went after ‘Bigfoot’ and dropped him. When he got back up, Gabriel Gonzaga swarmed him and knocked him out for his first win in BKFC.

Check out the ending below:

Gabriel Gonzaga ended his MMA career on a two-fight losing streak and is 17-12 as a pro. He was knocked out by Alexander Emelianenko and before that, he was knocked out by Derrick Lewis in his final UFC fight. Out of his final five losses, four were by knockout.

He did, however, have some success as he fought for the UFC heavyweight title early on in his career after a stunning knockout over Mirko Cro Cop.

Antonio Silva, meanwhile, ended his MMA career on a five-fight losing streak including being knocked out five of those six losses. After his MMA career ended, he fought in Glory Kickboxing and was knocked out there, as well. In his final 10 fights, he went 1-8 and one no-contest.

Mixed martial arts (MMA) legend Wanderlei Silva’s fighting days aren’t over just yet. Silva will put down his gloves and instead fight bare-knuckle moving forward.

FanSided reports that the 43-year-old has signed a contract with the Bare-Knuckle FC (BKFC) promotion. No opponent or date for Silva’s BKFC debut has been revealed, but an announcement is expected during their next event. Silva holds an MMA record of 35-14-1 and hasn’t fought since September of last year where he suffered a second-round TKO loss to Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at Bellator 206.

Currently on a two-fight losing streak in MMA, Silva hasn’t tasted victory since his 2013 win over Brian Stann, who he knocked out in the second round of their UFC on Fuel TV meeting. Venturing into bare-knuckle boxing is an odd decision from Silva, considering he recently suggested he’s suffering from several signs of CTE.

“I was in a lecture about concussion and of the 10 symptoms the guy mentioned, I had eight,” Silva said in a recent interview with the Brazilian website PVT (h/t MMA Fighting). “The symptoms would be, for example, mood swings, getting angry very fast, forgetting some things, having difficulty sleeping.”

What do you think about Silva taking part in bare-knuckle boxing?

Former UFC stars Antonio Silva and Gabriel Gonzaga are set to fight each other on October 19, in Tampa, Florida.

Interestingly though, the men will not be competing at an MMA promotion; instead, they’re taking part in David Feldman‘s Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship.

BKFC‘s president shared his excitement in a recent press release: “I am very excited to have these two legends competing in the BKFC squared circle. They have fought and beat some of the best fighters in the world and now they will fight each other. Tampa is a great fight market and we are thrilled to be able to host another event there. The fans in Tampa love BKFC and we plan on giving them another great show.”

Antonio Silva, 39, decided to turn to kickboxing in 2017, after losing his last five consecutive fights in the UFC – four of which by knockout. He lost his GLORY kickboxing debut to Rico Verhoeven in October of the same year. Silva has not competed since but is scheduled to face off against Greg Tony at WKN World Cup 2019.

Gabriel Gonzaga, 40, was released from the UFC a year before his opponent; he took on boxing and had a victorious debut in October 2017. He then returned to MMA in May 2018, but lost to Alexander Emelianenko at RCC 2 via a TKO in the second round.

Both fighters are acquainted with each other, but Gonzaga claims they aren’t close. “I know him and he knows me, but we never trained together,” said Gonzaga, as reported by MMA Junkie.
