'Thug' Rose Namajunas calls for women's BMF title fight following her big win at UFC Denver

If she can’t get her hands on the flyweight title just yet, ‘Thug’ Rose Namajunas would love to compete for the first-ever women’s BMF belt.

Returning to her home away from home, Denver, Colorado, the former two-time strawweight queen scored her second-straight win at 125, besting short-notice replacement Tracy Cortez in an entertaining five-round affair to close out the UFC’s return to The Centennial State on Saturday night.

After knocking down Cortez early, Namajunas asserted her dominance throughout the fight, mixing up her striking and her wrestling to score a unanimous decision victory over her opponent.

Immediately following the fight, Namajunas called for a shot at the flyweight title, currently held by Mexico’s own Alexa Grasso. However, if she can’t get that quite yet, she’d love a crack at bringing a women’s BMF belt to The Mile High City.

“Give me the belt, man. I want it. I’m Colorado’s first UFC champion so I want to bring a second one back here,” Namajunas said in her post-fight interview with Paul Felder. “Either that or a women’s BMF, I don’t know.”

When looking at the list of female UFC fighters badass enough to compete for a BMF belt, Rose Namajunas undoubtedly lands right near the top.

Rose Namajunas Likely needs one more win to secure a flyweight title shot

With her win over Cortez, ‘Thug’ will most certainly hang on to her No. 6 ranking in the flyweight division, though it remains to be seen if the victory will move her up the ladder at all considering Cortez is ranked just outside the top 10.

Originally, Namajunas was scheduled to square off with top-five contender Maycee Barber until ‘The Future’ was forced to bow out due to an unfortunate illness.

With Grasso expected to defend the 125-pound crown against former champion Valentina Shevchenko in a highly anticipated trilogy bout this September, perhaps the promotion will rebook Barber and Namajunas.

Only time will tell, but regardless of who comes out on top in that potential matchup, the winner will have to get behind No. 2 ranked Manon Fiorot who has done more than enough to earn her shot at the winner of Grasso vs. Shevchenko 3.

'Iron' Michael Chandler posts cryptic message on social media signaling for potential BMF title fight

After missing out on a chance to fight Conor McGregor at UFC 303, ‘Iron’ Michael Chandler appears to be targeting the promotion’s baddest motherf*cker.

After nearly two years on the shelf, the former Bellator MMA champion was scheduled to step into the main event spotlight on June 29 for a long-awaited clash with the returning Irish megastar. Unfortunately, those plans were scrapped after it was revealed that McGregor sustained an injury, forcing him to bow out of the bout.

Recently, McGregor’s friend and training partner Peter Queally claimed that the fight would be rebooked for September. However, it looks like Chandler may already have his eyes on the UFC’s bragging rights belt and, more importantly, the man who’s carrying it around.

Michael Chandler

“Bravo. Mike. Foxtrot,” Chandler wrote on X.

Of course, ‘Iron’ is clearly using the phonetic alphabet to spell out BMF. He followed that up with another post on social media featuring his head superimposed on the body of Maximus Decimus Meridus, Russell Crowe’s character in the 2000 Best Picture winner, Gladiator.

Michael Chandler

“Blessed Man Forever,” Chandler wrote in the caption.

Will it be conor mcGregor or Max Holloway for Michael Chandler?

Currently, the BMF title resides with former featherweight champion Max Holloway. ‘Blessed’ captured the belt with an insane buzzer-beating KO of Justin Gaethje at UFC 300 in April.

As it stands, Holloway is primed for a title clash with the reigning 145-pound champion Ilia Topuria later this year, though no official announcement has been made by the UFC.

Are you interested in seeing Michael Chandler pivot to a BMF title fight with Holloway, or should the Missouri native continue to hold out for his red panty night with ‘Mystic Mac’?

Ilia Topuria confident he will overtake Cristiano Ronaldo as the 'Highest-Paid athlete in the world' by 2025

If there is any one thing that Ilia Topuria lacks, it certainly isn’t confidence.

Even before his highlight-reel-worthy knockout of Alexander Volkanovski in February to claim the UFC’s featherweight crown, ‘El Matador’ was talking a big game. More importantly, he has backed it up every step of the way, going 15-0 and capturing a world championship in the process.

Ilia Topuria

With a horde of European fight fans behind him, Ilia Topuria expects to unseat famous footballer Cristiano Ronaldo as the world’s wealthiest athlete in the coming year.

“Look, I can tell you that I have no doubt that in 2025, I will be the highest-paid athlete in the world,” Topuria told Webpositer. “I’ll be there. I’d be surprised if I didn’t do it. I have no doubt, really” (h/t MMA Fighting).

Ilia Topuria Doubles down on his BMF title demand

Given that so many of his predictions have already come to fruition, it’s hard to doubt anything Ilia Topuria has to say about his own career. However, to reach that next level, he’ll have to go through some of the toughest names in the game — namely Max Holloway.

Holloway is coming off a career-defining knockout of Justin Gaethje at UFC 300 to claim the promotion’s bragging rights belt, the BMF title. That has all but guaranteed ‘Blessed’ a crack at Topuria’s featherweight strap — so long as Holloway puts his new hardware on the line as well.

Max Holloway

“You are the BMF champion, you have the opportunity for the title, to fight for the title,” Topuria said. “What are you going to do? Are you going to fight or are you not going to fight? He says, ‘Sign the contract,’ this, that, such and such. Where are you? Put the title in the game.

“What I said was how I’m not going to fight him if he doesn’t put the BMF belt on the line. [Holloway] was like, ‘That’s not the way a real BMF claims the title.’ You want me to come and put this belt on the table, and you don’t want to put yours [on the table]? That is, if you lose, you want to continue being the BMF. How does this work? I mean, what BMF are you?

Topuria vs. Holloway is without a doubt the No. 1 fight on every fight fan’s featherweight wishlist. Should ‘Blessed’ get passed over, ‘El Matador’ has his sights set on a rematch with Volkanovski or a potential showdown with division mainstay Brian Ortega.

Brian Ortega

“If [the BMF belt] is not on the line, the only thing that makes it relevant, I would first give Volkanovski the opportunity for a rematch,” Topuria said. “Before that, I would fight Brian Ortega, who was much closer to finishing Volkanovski in one fight than Max did in three.

“[Ortega] always puts his face in there and he fights. He has won his last fight, he has several good victories. Would I like to go ahead against him, of course, I would, because right now it’s like who but him?”

Dan Hooker is down for a BMF title eliminator fight with Bobby Green: 'I owe it to the fans'

Dan Hooker is down for a BMF title fight, so long as he gets to go through Bobby Green first.

With back-to-back wins over Claudio Puelles and Jalin Turner in his last two outings, ‘The Hangman’ is looking to make a summertime return against a big name in the lightweight division.

Dan Hooker

Speaking with Hyon Ko of The Allstar, Hooker spoke about a potential clash with Beneil Dariush, but if he gets his wish, the UFC will rebook his previously scheduled scrap with 155-pound standout ‘King’ Bobby Green.

Furthermore, Hooker believes that such an electrifying fight could serve as a potential BMF title eliminator.

Dan Hooker

“You need a BMF [title] eliminator. That’s why I was originally calling for the [Bobby] Green fight,” Hooker said. “That’s originally what it was to the fans. I suggested that like it was a BMF eliminator and there weren’t any fans who had any counterarguments to that. Me and Green would be a heck of a fight. I owe it to the fans and I would love to step in and compete against him and line myself up for the BMF belt.

“After his performance against Jim Miller at UFC 300, Bobby Green’s stock is right back to where it deserves to be and if nothing comes together for International Fight Week, Green’s got two arms and two legs, brother, so he fits the bill, but I’d love to bring him down to Perth and do that one at home. That’ll be cool.”

Dan Hooker Slams Ilia Topuria’s BMF Title Demands

The BMF title currently resides with Max Holloway after ‘Blessed’ delivered the highlight of the night at UFC 300, dispatching Justin Gaethje with an epic buzzer-beating knockout. Following the win, Holloway’s stock rose massively, making him a viable contender in two different divisions.

Max Holloway KOs Justin Gaethje

Asked about his thoughts on Holloway’s last-second KO, Dan Hooker admitted to being blown away by the moment. He also took a dig at Ilia Topuria’s recent BMF title demands, saying:

“Absolutely wild. That’s the danger of the sport. For Max to have it in the bag and put it all on the line, that’s BMF sh*t, you know what I mean? If there’s a ‘but’ in your statement, you’ve immediately disqualified yourself from the BMF conversation. It’s gone over your head if you have to say, ‘I’ll fight him, but…’ If there’s any ifs, buts, or maybes, you’ve disqualified yourself.”

Ryan Clark slams 'Boring' Aljamain Sterling after Daniel Cormier proposes next BMF title fight

Aljamain Sterling may have gotten the job done, but he left a lot to be desired in his featherweight debut.

After surrendering the bantamweight belt to ‘Sugar’ Sean O’Malley last summer, the ‘Funk Master’ made the move to 145 in search of a new division to conquer. He got off to a good start at UFC 300, scoring a decisive decision victory over top 10 ranked contender Calvin Kattar.

Aljamain Sterling

Though fight fans were less than thrilled with Sterling’s grapple-heavy approach, former two-division UFC champion Daniel Cormier believes his dominant performance made the ‘Funk Master’ a legitimate candidate to challenge for the BMF title — now held by featherweight cornerstone Max Holloway following his buzzer-beating knockout of Justin Gaethje at the landmark event.

“Put ‘Aljo’ in the BMF title fight, yes,” Cormier said on Good Guy/Bad Guy. “If anybody is a BMF, they can do what ‘Aljo’ did at UFC 300. You go up a weight class, you dominate somebody in the grappling like that, that’s a BMF, Ryan. Put ‘Aljo’ in the next title fight.”

Ryan Clark Sounds off on Aljamain Sterling

During the episode, Cormier reunited with his DC & RC co-host, former Pittsburgh Steeler and Super Bowl champion Ryan Clark, who was not afraid to disagree with the UFC Hall of Famer’s BMF title suggestion.

“It is, DC. It’s a ‘boring motherf*cker. That’s what that is,” Clark responded. “That’s what the BMF would stand for if Aljamain Sterling was the new BMF champion.

“I love him. He has to win. You gotta go out and win, that’s why it’s called mixed martial arts. Chael [Sonnen] landed strikes against Anderson Silva and rocked him then Chael took it to the ground and dominated him on the ground. I have no problem with that. Chael is absolutely a BMF. If it is two names that are that big, I am okay with the fight going that way. Just don’t put the belt up. Put the real belt up for that fight. Do not put the BMF up for it” (h/t MMA Mania).

Max Holloway mocks Ilia Topuria's demands for potential title fight: 'That’s kind of un-BMF'

Max Holloway doesn’t think Ilia Topuria is acting like a true BMF.

Following Holloway’s incredible buzzer-beating knockout of Justin Gaethje to win the UFC’s bragging rights belt on April 13, reigning featherweight champion Ilia Topuria opened the door for a potential clash between the two titleholders if — and only if — ‘Blessed’ puts his BMF title up for grabs

“Without the BMF belt [on the line], I don’t want him at all,” Topuria said on The MMA Hour. “If not, I’m gonna fight with Volk who deserves more than him, the rematch. Because he has that belt, I’m excited about that. That’s why I want him. He’s been saying, ‘Right now I have a lot of options.’ He doesn’t have any options. I’m the champion right now, I choose the date, I choose the place. He just has to be ready and wait for the call. Whenever I want him, he has to be ready.”

Responding to Topuria’s demand, Max Holloway questioned whether or not ‘El Matador’ was exhibiting the characteristics of a true BMF.

“That’s not a very ‘BMF’ way to say it,” Holloway told Jim Rome. “A ‘BMF’ wouldn’t say, ‘I’m not going to fight this guy unless …’ That’s kind of un-‘BMF.’ Doesn’t sound ‘BMF’ the way he’s trying to demand it and saying, ‘I’m not going to fight.’

“A ‘BMF’ fights whatever, fights whoever, whenever, any weight, any time, and that’s not a tone of a ‘BMF.’”

Staying true to the BMF way, Max Holloway is adamant that he’ll fight any man the UFC chooses to put in front of him, but a world title tussle with Ilia Topuria is at the top of his last.

Ilia Topuria open to a rematch with Alexander Volkanovski if Max Holloway Fight doesn’t happen

Topuria, on the other hand, did open the door to a potential rematch with Alexander Volkanovski, the man he took the featherweight strap from at UFC 298 in February.

Ilia Topuria

However, ‘El Matador’ has a great deal of respect for the former champ and wants ‘The Great’ to take plenty of time to rest and recover after suffering a pair of brutal back-to-back knockouts.

“Alexander Volkanovki’s been the world champ,” Topuria said. “He’s defended it six or seven times. He’s a pound-for-pound fighter. The most technical guy I’ve fought ever. There’s a reason he’s been a world champion, but I think he needs more time to recover. He fought at the end of the year and got knocked out [by Islam Makhachev].

“I knocked him out and if he doesn’t get the time to recover, he’ll get knocked out three times in one year, or something like that. I just want the best for him. I want the best version of Volkanovski.”
