It’s safe to say that there is no love lost between UFC Austin headliners Arman Tsarukyan and Bobby Green.
The two lightweight standouts had vastly different experiences in The Lone Star State on Saturday night. Tsarukyan established himself as a legitimate title contender in the lightweight division with a stunning 64-second knockout of Beneil Dariush in the main event, while Green suffered yet another setback via a brutal first-round knockout against rising star Jalin Turner in the evening’s co-main.
Green’s loss came with a bit of controversy as veteran referee Kerry Hatley allowed ‘King’ to take a plethora of unprotected shots on the ground before finally stepping in. UFC CEO Dana White called it one of the worst stoppages he had ever seen, but Arman Tsarukyan certainly seemed to enjoy it.
Ahead of fight night, things got physical between Tsarukyan and Green in a hotel lobby after ‘Ahalkalakets’ took exception to some disparaging comments Green made about his particular style of fighting.
“He was talking sh*t about me,” Tsarukyan said at the post-fight press conference. “I just came and asked him, ‘Bro, don’t talk sh*t about me.’ Because where I’m from you can’t just talk, you’ve got to answer for your words. So that’s why I just wanted to tell him don’t talk sh*t about me because if you’re going to talk sh*t, we’ve got to meet and talk. So he pushed me, I pushed him, and that’s it. Done. Hopefully, I’m not going to see him again in my life.
“I was super, super happy when his head was bouncing on the canvas.”
Tsarukyan’s victory over Dariush should put him firmly within the top five of the lightweight division come Monday. He has now won three in a row and eight of his last nine inside the Octagon.
“Maybe I was born confident,” Tsarukyan said. “To be honest, I train a lot. I train in the best gym with the best fighters in the world and I feel like I’m the best, that’s why I’m confident. I saw a lot of Armenian flags and I thought, oh my God, that gives me different emotions. I was very calm and when I saw my guys around me I said, ‘No way someone can beat me tonight so I’m going to die or win.’”
Arman Tsarukyan Ready to Run it back with Islam Makhachev
Following his quick finish, Tsarukyan called out reigning lightweight world champion Islam Makhachev. It’s unlikely that ‘Ahalkalakets’ gets the next shot at the 155-pound crown with both Charles Oliveira and Justin Gaethje waiting their turn at the champ, but the callout makes a lot of sense considering Tsarukyan’s history with the ‘Dagestani Destroyer.
In April 2019, Tsarukyan made his promotional debut against Makhachev and was decisively decisioned. He expects their inevitable rematch to produce a very different result.
“I always think of the best-case scenario and I feel like I can knock [Makhachev] out in the first round,” Tsarukyan said. “We’ve got to think about the best, we shouldn’t think about the worst situation” (h/t MMA Fighting).

Off the back of his gruesome first round KO loss to Jalin Turner in last night’s reworked UFC Austin co-main event clash, perennial lightweight contender, Bobby Green insists he has no plans to call time on his storied career, off the back of a brutal finish.
The loss snapped San Bernardino native, Green’s eye-catching two-fight winning run, which included a submission win over former interim lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson back in July, which came before a blistering 33-second KO win over Grant Dawson in an October main event clash.
Bobby Green praises Jalin Turner after UFC Austin
Addressing his loss to Turner in a video posted on his official social media last night, Green heaped praise on the former, and insisted he planned to continue his lengthy fighting career despite the troubling knockout loss.
“What up, guys,” Bobby Green said. “You win some, and you lose some, I guess. I just wanna show people you gotta keep it G when you’ve won it, and you’ve gotta keep it G when you lose. Shout out to Jalin (Turner), you did you’re thing, brother. I’m so happy for you.”
“It means the world that you stepped up on short-notice and you’ve had your success,” Bobby Green explained. “So, shout out to you. To all my people, it’s just another step in the thing. You know, just another step in the career. There’s ups, there’s downs. I’m going to keep it going, I ain’t going nowhere. Love you guys.”

On the road for the first time since last month’s visit to New York City, the Octagon is set to land in the Moody Center tonight in Austin, Texas – hosting a ‘Fight Night’ billed card featuring a pair of eye-catching lightweight scraps atop the showcase at UFC Austin.
Taking main event honors, perennial lightweight contender, Beneil Dariush returns to the Octagon for the first time since June, taking on Armenian grappler, Armen Tsarukyan over the course of five rounds.
Sidelined since co-headlining UFC 289 in Canada earlier this summer, Kings MMA staple, Dariush saw his stunning eight-fight winning streak come to an end in the form of a first round ground strikes TKO loss to former undisputed champion, Charles Oliveira.
As for Tsarukyan, the highly-touted lightweight contender, who holds the number eight rank in the division, has landed two consecutive wins recently, defeating both Damir Ismagulov, and then stopping Joaquim Silva with strikes back in June to boot.
Remaining on the card following the removal of his opponent, Dan Hooker through a fractured arm injury, perennial contender, Bobby Green makes a co-main event return, taking on short-notice replacement, Jalin Turner at UFC Austin.
Last time out, Green, who submitted former interim champion, Tony Ferguson back in July, stopped the surging, Grant Dawson with a 33-second KO at UFC Vegas 80 in October.
As for Turner, the Dana White’s Contender Series staple takes on Green off the back of consecutive defeats to lightweight contenders, Hooker, and Polish standout, Mateusz Gamrot.
UFC Austin can be viewed in North America from 4 p.m. onwards on ESPN+ – including main card viewing at 7 p.m. ET – while fans in Ireland and the United Kingdom can tune in through UFC Fight Pass and TNT Sports.
