The argument for the hevyweight division’s top dog continues. Currently, Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder, and Tyson Fury can all make a case for being the baddest man in boxing.

Recently, Wilder defended his WBC heavyweight title against Fury from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The pair fought all 12 rounds and the judges turned in a controversial split-decision draw. Fury is believed to have gotten the better of Wilder for the majority of the 12 rounds. However, Wilder scored the only two knockdowns of the entire fight.

Not to mention the second knockdown from Wilder could’ve arguably been ruled a knockout. With that being said, talk of a rematch is already underway. Recently, Wilder joined longtime UFC commentator Joe Rogan’s podcast, “The Joe Rogan Experience.” The pair discussed Wilder’s grueling fight with Fury, and what’s next for “The Bronze Bomber.”

During their conversation, the topic of fellow heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua came up. Joshua currently holds the IBF, WBA, WBO, and IBO world heavyweight titles. However, many boxing pundits assume Joshua is ducking the likes of Wilder and Fury. Rogan chimed in on the subject (via MMA Mania):

“He looks terrible. He’s gonna fight some other guy, and no one gives a fuck. And it’s like, your titles, whatever titles you got, they’re bullshit! They don’t mean anything! Everybody knows this is where the real title is! It’s a wrap now.”

Wilder then revealed that Joshua’s team has already reached out to him about possibly making a fight between the pair. Prior to agreeing to fight Fury, Wilder had been calling Joshua out for months, and failed negotiations between the two sides prevented a fight from being booked.

Now, after seeing Wilder face Fury – a fight where many presume some major holes in Wilder’s game were revealed – Joshua seems very eager to get a fight going.

Anthony Joshua is finally intrigued.

Recently, WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury went a full 12 rounds in an amazing heavyweight contest. Fury seemingly bested Wilder technically for the majority of the fight, however, Wilder landed the only two knockdowns of the contest. “The Bronze Bomber’s” second knockdown very well could’ve been ruled a knockout.

However, Fury made it to his feet and was able to survive. When it was all said and done, the judges’ scorecards turned in a controversial split decision draw. A rematch is now being discussed for the spring of next year. But it looks like IBF, WBA, WBO, and IBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua wants in on the mix.

His promoter, Eddie Hearn, spoke to The Sun recently and expressed his desire for a fight against Deontay Wilder specifically. Hearn went as far as saying he thinks Joshua would knock Wilder clean out (via Boxing Scene):

“Joshua would be a lot easier to hit (than Fury) but I also think Joshua would take (Wilder) off his feet and knock him spark out,” Hearn said. “If Josh fights Tyson it’s going to be the most amazing event but it’s also going to be quite an awkward night.

“If he fights Wilder it’s going to be X-rated because someone’s head is getting taken off – If that goes 12 rounds, Joshua against Wilder, I’m quitting the sport. Because that’s ridiculous, that’s not possible. We want Wilder. That’s the difference.

“I think if it was man on man and there were no belts, nothing, I think Joshua would probably prefer Fury. There’s always been the ‘oh he was the champ, you won his belts’ and stuff like that so maybe that’s in his head a little bit but he wants to be undisputed.’

“I think in the back of his mind, he wants to do a job on Fury as well. He wants to do a job on both of them and he’s going to violently do that.”

Wilder had been chasing a fight against Joshua for months before accepting a fight with Fury. However, the two sides could never come to an agreement, and most boxing pundits blame Joshua’s side for the hold up. Now, Joshua seems eager to get the fight done, and it’s likely because he spotted some major flaws in Wilder’s game against Fury.

The boxing world has been fixated on a potential Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury rematch ever since the two threw down in a classic bout on December 1 from Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Many thought Fury did more than enough to outlast WBC champion Wilder. The lineal champion repeatedly scored with his jab and technical prowess. For his part, Wilder did score two knockdowns that nearly changed the course of the bout. The final knockdown almost had Fury out, but somehow he rose to his feet and finished fighting.

A controversial split decision draw decision ensued, and talks of a rematch instantly began to dominate headlines. Although the winner – if there was one – was expected to fight Anthony Joshua to unify all the titles, this rivalry is expected to be concluded first.

Wilder recently appeared on the ‘Joe Rogan Experience podcast’ (via MMA News) to discuss when and where the rematch might take place. He teased Las Vegas or New York as the location, with the date possibly next spring:

“It could be, we’ve got a lot of places. I wouldn’t mind going back to New York as well, boxing history. You got so many diverse people there. A lot of people look at travel and stuff like that. Although it’s busy, people still want it to be easy access.

“Vegas makes it easy for people because the airport is right there and then five minutes you’re on the strip and that’s where most of the people be at. We’ll see when the time comes, I’m open for any place. We’re looking at April, May, June somewhere up in there.”

No matter where the rematch takes place, it will be one of the most anticipated heavyweight boxing matches in years.
