The next step in Benson Henderson’s career post-mixed martial arts is set, as the former UFC champion has been booked for his boxing debut.

Henderson held the lightweight title on MMA’s biggest stage between 2012 and 2013. He sits alongside Khabib Nurmagomedov, Islam Makhachev, and BJ Penn as one of four record holders for the most consecutive defenses in the division.

After his UFC stint came to an end, “Smooth” continued under the Bellator banner, challenging for gold unsuccessfully on three occasions. The most recent came in defeat against Usman Nurmagomedov in March 2023, marking his final outing in the cage.

Like many, Henderson’s MMA retirement hasn’t completely brought his combat sports story to an end. Last December, the 40-year-old debuted in the Karate Combat Pit, outpointing his fellow former UFC champ Anthony Pettis.

And Henderson is now set to dip his toes into yet another sport…

Henderson Meets Fellow UFC Vet Chris Avila In Misfits Tournament

It was announced this week that Henderson will feature on the latest card for Misfits Boxing, a crossover boxing promotion founded by English YouTube star and celebrity pugilist KSI.

To date, the likes of Logan Paul, Dillon Danis, Tommy Fury, Paige VanZant, Le’Veon Bell, and Anthony Taylor are among those who have competed at the events.

Misfits Boxing 18, set for the Vertu Motors Arena in Newcastle, England on September 14, will see Henderson added to that list. He’s slated to do battle with another ex-UFC and Bellator fighter, Nate Diaz protégé Chris Avila.

The pair’s contest will serve as one of two light heavyweight semifinals making up a one-night tournament. In the other, Idris Virgo is set to throw down with Fes Batista, with the two winners meeting later on to crown the champion.

The main event of the influencer card will see Elle Brooke defend her MFB middleweight title against BKFC veteran Jenny Savage. The Brit was originally expected to run it back with VanZant following their draw earlier this year, but that hasn’t come to fruition.

Claressa Shields Deserves More Respect: “It’s ridiculous” – Andre Berto

Claressa Shields

Andre Berto says that Claressa Shields is not getting the credit she deserves for her highly impressive career in boxing. “GWOAT” Claressa Shields represented the USA in the Olympics and has since collected numerous titles across multiple weight classes.

Claressa Shields

The US-born Claressa Shields earned two Olympic Gold Medals as an amateur fighter. Since turning pro, Shields has remained unbeaten in her spotless 15-0 fight career. Along the way, she has earned WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring titles across multiple weight classes. Additionally, she competes in MMA with the PFL. Most recently, “GWOAT” Claressa Shields captured the heavyweight title by way of knockout.

Claressa Shields vs Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse heavyweight

Former Olympian, world champion, and Hall of Fame boxer Andre Berto said that Shields is not getting the respect that she deserves. Speaking in an interview on All The Smoke, he said:

“Somebody like that has been that dominant for so long, two gold medals, multiple world titles, undefeated, just accolades after accolades. I believe that she continues to feel like she has to do more and more and more to continue to try to gain any type of real respect. If it’s boxing, if it’s MMA, if it’s doing rap videos, if it’s YouTube. But she’s trying to deliver you know, to a different type of hype because she feels like she needs to,. But she’s still not getting that type of love, notoriety, or sponsors.

“You got a woman that’s so dominant and has been collecting everything. What else does she need to do to get those real dollars? Those real fight dollars, those real endorsement dollars. Cause, like I said, I see her working overtime. Everybody’s been seeing her working overtime.”

Not only does Claressa Shields not get the respect she deserves, as someone with so many impressive accolades, but she is also actively disrespected, Berto explained. An Olympic medalist and multi-division world champion in boxing, people should be celebrating her as they are witnessing history.

Last year when I spoke to Shields, she broke down exactly where she keeps all of her impressive titles. Because it’s not easy to store so many gold belts and medals.

Berto Continued:

“I know these platforms give people a voice that otherwise wouldn’t have one. And a lot of times people say whatever they want to say, but what is all that? The hate and vitriol that’s coming at Claressa Shields. Where is this coming from? My heart for her, man, is just to rest in her greatness. Resting on what she’s accomplished and finishing her career out strong. Get as many bags as she can. Maintain her integrity in the process and, try to leave this thing undefeated.

“I’m not standing for the blatant disrespect of this young lady from these grown men. It’s ridiculous.

Michael Bisping Slams ‘Pathetic’ Jake Paul Over Mike Tyson Fight: ‘Don’t Give Me This Fighter Bulls***’

Mike Bisping Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson

Former UFC world champion Michael Bisping is not impressed with Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson, the celebrity boxing match. After the press conference between Iron Mike and the YouTube star, ‘The Count’ Bisping had a few thoughts on the matchup.

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson

The Problem Child’ Jake Paul has become a blockbuster-selling boxer who has defeated opponents such as Mike Perry, Ben Askren, Nate Diaz, and former UFC champions Tyron Woodley and Anderson Silva. The US-born athlete was able to transition his YouTube into a successful prize-fighting career. The 26-year-old also aims to have to compete in MMA under the PFL banner.

Mike Tyson is one of the most renowned heavyweight boxers in history. The 58-year-old was feared for his tremendous knockout power. In 1988, the US-born striker held the WBA, WBC, IBF, and The Ring heavyweight championships and had a perfect unbeaten record. Tyson stopped fighting in 2005 but took an exhibition match in 2020 taking Roy Jones Jr. to a draw.

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson was booked for earlier in 2024 but ‘Iron’ Mike had to drop out due to an injury. The Netflix fight has been rescheduled for November 15.

Michael Bisping on Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson

At 26 years old, Jake Paul is a young man in his physical prime. Mike Tyson is 58 years old and has not been very active over the past 20 years. This fight has disgusted former UFC champion and Hall of Fame fighter Michael Bisping. On his YouTube channel, Bisping said:

“Jake, I hate to point out the obvious, that makes you look pathetic. You just admitted that you’re going up against an old man, who is a legend of course, but he’s not that guy anymore. Jake Paul, he’s a total — he’s just a tool bag. I’m not going to lower myself and swear. Look at him. It’s nice to see that he’s finally getting booed and the kind of response that he deserves.

“You are a joke. You are a disgrace to the combat world. You’re an imposter. You’re a wannabe. You’re a fake. Challenge yourself, you pathetic man, you pathetic individual. Fighting is about challenging yourself. Granted, business. Killing it in that regard. But don’t give me this fighter bulls***. That’s what gets on my nerves.”

Discussing the age difference between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, ‘The Count’ continued:

“The man’s almost 60. He’s almost a pensioner. … Mike Tyson was a terrifying individual. To go up against that man, in his prime, Jesus Christ, he was one of the scariest individuals that we’ve ever seen throughout any combat sport. The man was a straight killer. Was. Again, the key word.

“I’m 45. When I was 25, I was a different person. I was a maniac. I was out of control and I would have fought anybody. And if I was Jake Paul right now, at 26 years old, and you said to me, ‘We’re going to give you someone that’s 58 years old,’ I’d have been like, ‘Oh my god. You’re going to pay me to do this?

“You’re going to pay me $40 million, whatever the price tag is, to go out there and beat up a guy like that? Oh my god.’ I would have said, ‘Stick it up your ass. Give me someone who is my age.’ Because that is not competition and that is what a true fighter would say and should say.” [Ht MMAFighting]

Tyson, a former undisputed heavyweight world champion boxer, was scheduled to take on the surging Paul earlier this summer, before a medical condition including a flare up of a prior ulcer condition, forced his withdrawal from a matchup – and cancelling the pairing.

For Paul, the outspoken puncher remained on the July card, taking on former UFC welterweight contender and BKFC (Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship) star, Mike Perry – stopping the Flint native with a spectacular sixth round knockout win in Tampa, Florida.

Hitting out at Tyson, Paul claimed the renowned knockout kingpin was just a “mitt warrior” – claiming he was unsure if the veteran still retained his stunning stopping power of years gone by.

“I think he’s (Mike Tyson) a mitt warrior,” Jake Paul replied. “The Instagram videos are cute but we’ll see what happens in the ring on November 15. At the end of the day, we’ll see if he’s still got it.”

“Listen, as soon as I catch this guy, he’s going to be running around,” Mike Tyson responded. “As soon as I catch this guy, it’s going to be totally over. He’s going to run like a thief.”
