The southpaw heavyweight striker Zhilei Zhang grew up watching Mike Tyson’s legendary boxing career. In an interview with LowKickMMA and AceOdds, the Chinese-born athlete discussed Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul.

China’s Zhilei Zhang has collected illustrious across his career such as Olympic Medals and the WBO interim heavyweight strap. Currently, the 41-year-old is ranked in the top five in heavyweight boxing after his dominant knockout win against Deontay Wilder.

‘The Problem Child’ Jake Paul took his YouTube celebrity status and transitioned it into a lucrative boxing career dispatching former UFC fighters in the ring. ‘Iron’ Mike is a legendary heavyweight boxing figure who collected world titles in the 80s and 90s with his iconic knockout power.

Soon, Jake Paul and Tyson will face off in a professional boxing showdown on November 15, which can be watched live on Netflix.

Ahead of this matchup, Zhilei Zhang offered his prediction for Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson. He said:

“I know a lot of people have their own opinions on this fight and whether or not it should happen, but in my opinion, I watched Mike Tyson’s fights growing up and he’s like the god of war in my mind. Now in his 60s, he’s fighting with a guy in his 20s, which is an incredible achievement already when you’re losing. I really hope for the best for him and I wish him the best and good luck.”

Zhilei Zhang of Wilder KO - Heavyweights are Scared

Earlier this year, China’s Zhilei Zhang scored a huge knockout win against the former boxing world champion Deontay Wilder, but now every heavyweight is scared to face him. ‘Big Bang’ Zhang spoke with LowKickMMA and AceOdds for an interview to discuss his most recent win.

Zhilei Zhang Knocks Out Deontay Wilder

As an amateur, the southpaw Zhilei Zhang won a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and bronze medals at the 2007 and 2009 World Championships. As a professional, Zhang has compiled an impressive record of 27 wins with 22 of his victories coming by knockout. At a towering 6’6″ the former WBO interim heavyweight title holder packs serious power.

Despite suffering a loss to Joseph Parker in March 2024, Zhang bounced back with a notable victory over former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder in June 2024. But now, back in the top five, after his major win, most other heavyweights at the top are too scared to face him. Speaking to him in an interview, Zhilei Zhang explained:

“It’s a double-edged sword. The good thing is after I lost to Parker in March, I was kind of out of the mix, but with the victory, I was back in the mix again. That’s the good thing about it. It put my career right back on track.

“The negative side is that after knocking out Wilder, people look at me like, he’s from another planet. They don’t want to fight me. They look at me like somebody they want to avoid at all costs. That puts me and my team in a difficult position in terms of looking for opponents and securing big fights. I really feel like the elite heavyweights should just come and face me and just let it be done.”

Zhilei Zhang On His Future

‘Big Bang’ Zhilei Zhang is hoping maybe Riyadh Season with Saudi Arabia and Turki Alalshikh can make some choices to help move this heavyweight title picture along. He continued:

“I think it’s really smart for his excellency to put everything together. Obviously, we’re benefiting from it but at the same time, they are making fights that we would normally never get to see. They made a lot of fights that we can only dream about and this is really such a good thing.

Also on the other side, Riyadh season is the big push behind everything, I think they made the whole world realise what a wonderful country Saudi Arabia is. People are looking at Saudi Arabia as the centre of professional boxing and of sports as well.”

The top-five-ranked Zhang has a close eye on the upcoming rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury. He said that he would happily face either one, the Chinese-born athlete added:

“I’ll do it now. Without hesitation.”

Dana White’s Boxing Dream Faces Financial Hurdles, Says Endeavor’s Mark Shapiro

Dana White may be ready to finally jump headfirst into the world of professional boxing, but his business daddy feels it necessary to pump the brakes until the right opportunity comes along.

After years of teasing his entry into yet another combat sport, White announced that he was finally ready to pull the trigger during a Q&A session before Callum Walsh’s boxing match against Przemyslaw Runowski in Dulin.

“If you know anything about me and you go back and look at anything that I’ve ever said, I never say anything that I don’t do — ever,” White said. “I’ve never said (something I don’t do), and we’ve been kicking the whole boxing thing around for a long time. You’ve never heard me commit and say, ‘I’m in.’ I’m in.”

White’s comments earned widespread praise from people within the industry, including legendary pugilist ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson and Matchroom Sports promoter Eddie Hearn.

However, White’s boxing dreams may not come true for quite some time according to Mark Shapiro — the President of Endeavor and Chief Operating Officer of the UFC’s parent company, TKO Group Holdings.

“First of all, some off the cuff comments from Dana White do not translate into a strategy that we’re communicating to the street,” Shapiro said during a quarterly earnings call on Wednesday. “Dana says a lot of things and has a lot of passions and that’s why we love him. He’s also the best promoter the sport of MMA and frankly if it was boxing has or will ever see.

“What I can tell you is boxing at its best is confused and fragmented. At its worst, it’s broken. We think the sport presents an interesting growth opportunity for us. Dana White, and I should mention [WWE president] Nick Khan, have deep expertise and longstanding relationships in what they call the sweet science, otherwise known as boxing. If we were to get involved in boxing, we would expect to do so in an organic way, not [mergers and acquisitions] way. So i.e. we’re not writing a check. If we launched the vertical at any time, we kind of see it as doing it with a partner that would fund it and pay us to operate” (h/t MMA Fighting).

TKO Group in no rush to leap into the boxing ring with Dana White

Perhaps their stance will change in the future, but for now, it sounds like TKO Group is willing to play the wait-and-see game with boxing. Until then, the company will continue to focus on its MMA and sports entertainment endeavors with the UFC and World Wrestling Entertainment.

“Nothing to announce today but this is one area we’re going to continue to explore,” Shapiro said. “We’ve talked about a dearth of leagues that are out there. Obviously, we’re acquiring [Professional Bull Riders], there’s not much else. We don’t necessarily need to add anything to our model but boxing is ripe for a fix.

“We’re blessed to have two experts in the field and if an opportunity presents itself or we can chase one down that does not put much risk or any risk for that matter on us financially, then we’re going to pursue it. In terms of models and leagues and how we’d structure it, etc, etc, that’s way down the road. Once we have something — if we have something — you’ll be the first to know.”

Jake Paul Claims an Ayahuasca Trip Inspired His Decision to Face Mike Tyson

Jake Paul has shared how a spiritual experience led him to challenge boxing legend Mike Tyson. Iron’ Mike Tyson and ‘The Problem Child’ are set for a heavyweight boxing fight on November 15 and will be streamed on Netflix. This matchup might have never been made if it wasn’t for a fateful Ayahuasca trip Paul experienced.

Jake Paul and Ayahuasca

Ayahuasca is a powerful psychedelic brew that one can get access to in some areas of South America. With modern travelers, these shaman-led ceremonies can guide people to intense experiences where people can earn personal growth, healing from past traumas, or spiritual insights.

Jake Paul visited Costa Rica and partook in an Ayahuasca ceremony that helped him find the Mike Tyson boxing fight. He said:

“About two and a half years ago now, I went to Costa Rica for my first Ayahuasca ceremony. I wanted to uncover things about myself. One of the craziest things was the vision I had of me and Mike Tyson fighting as if it had already happened or something in future, or was going to happen, that’s the feeling that gave me. And, it showed me the millions of kids watching through their TV and their devices and it showed the butterfly effect of what that creates for the sport of boxing.”

It is now a reality. Jake Paul and Mike Tyson are set to fight live from AT&T Stadium in Texas, USA. ‘The Problem Child’ has made a professional boxing career by defeating former UFC fighters. ‘Iron’ Mike was a powerful striker and world champion during the 80s and 90s but has not fought professionally since 2005.

Mike Tyson is no stranger to mind-altering substances as well. He claims that psychedelics, particularly “magic mushrooms” containing psilocybin, have had a profound positive impact on his life and well-being. Tyson believes that using these substances has helped him overcome his addiction to cocaine and alcohol. He has even stated that he uses psychedelic mushrooms during his training sessions.

Imane Khelif and Le Correspondant

Imane Khelif, the Olympic boxer who won gold at the 2024 Paris Games, is taking legal action against media reports in France that claimed she has XY chromosomes. These reports also allegedly leaked her medical records.

Imane Khelif and Le Correspondant

Algeria’s Imane Khelif was a target of a smear campaign by bad-faith attackers who were looking for a target. Ultimately, as Chael Sonnen explained, “Alleging that this Algerian boxer had a test showing she had the XY chromosome, which would indicate biological maleness. But this is simply not true. The test never happened. The IBA never claimed such a test was done.” It factually was a false story.

French publication ‘Le Correspondant’, a Catholic journal, said they had reports confirming her chromosomes, despite the IBA never claiming they had such tests. Now, due to this, Imane Khelif is taking them to court.

Khelif has filed a legal complaint over the online harassment she received during the Games, and now she’s taking action against the new media reports. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has said it’s saddened by the abuse Khelif has faced and confirmed that all Olympic competitors, including Khelif, met the necessary eligibility and medical standards, based on their official documents.

She has decided to take legal action against the French media outlet that published the reports, asserting that they have damaged her reputation and caused her significant distress. She added: “I am fully qualified to take part in this competition – I am a woman. I was born a woman, I’ve lived as a woman and I’ve competed as a woman. There’s no doubt that there are enemies of success and that gives my success a special taste because of these attacks.”

Brendan Schaub Explains Why Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson Is a 'Disaster Waiting to Happen'

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson may be a lose-lose situation says former UFC heavyweight fighter Brendan Schaub. The athlete discussed the highly anticipated boxing matchup on his podcast.

Brendan Schaub on Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson is going down on November 15 and can be watched on Netflix. ‘Iron‘ Mike Tyson is a heavyweight boxing legend who collected world titles in the 80s and 90s with thunderous knockout power. His last professional bout was in 2005 and he is now 58 years old.

‘The Problems Child’ Jake Paul is 27 years old and has a list of boxing victories over former UFC fighters. In the ring, Paul has defeated fighters such as Nate Diaz, Anderson Silva, and Tyron Woodley, among others.

Former UFC heavyweight fighter Brendan Schaub said that Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson is not a great fight for anyone involved. On his podcast, he explained:

“I love Mike Tyson. Love Jake [Paul]. I hope it f*cking crushes, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out the upside to this. Let’s go through the scenario; if you’re Jake, so you knock him out—horrible dude. What the f*ck. You just beat up an old man.

“You get knocked out—told you this guy is a joke. You get beat up by a 58-year-old. The third scenario here is it goes to a decision. That’s a disaster and nobody’s coming back. That’s a disaster business-wise for Netflix, it’s a disaster for Jake Paul—went to a decision with 58-year-old Mike Tyson. The only person who wins is Mike Tyson. He can do no wrong. He gets knocked out—he’s 58 and gets paid.

“He beats Paul—f*ck yeah. All the old guys are like, ‘Yeah!’ Goes to a decision, Tyson wins. For Netflix, dude, I don’t know. Let’s say if Tyson wins, what’s next? What are you going to do? Mike Tyson vs. Logan Paul to avenge his brother? Tyson vs. KSI? That’s the business model.” [Ht MiddleEasy]
